LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Quando il regno fu consolidato ed egli divenne forte, Roboamo abbandonò la legge del Signore e con lui tutto Israele.	1 When Rehoboam had consolidated the kingdom and become strong, he, and al Israel with him,abandoned the Law of Yahweh;
2 Nell'anno quinto del re Roboamo, Sisach, re d'Egitto, marciò contro Gerusalemme, perché erano diventati infedeli al Signore.	2 and thus it happened that in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt marched onJerusalem, because they had been unfaithful to Yahweh,
3 Egli aveva con sé milleduecento carri e sessantamila cavalieri, non si poteva contare la moltitudine che era venuta con lui dall'Egitto: Libici, Succhei ed Etiopi.	3 with twelve hundred chariots and sixty thousand cavalry and countless hordes of Libyans, Sukkiimand Cushites who came from Egypt with him.
4 Dopo aver occupato le città fortificate di Giuda, egli giunse fino a Gerusalemme.	4 They captured the fortified towns of Judah and reached Jerusalem.
5 Allora il profeta Semaia si presentò a Roboamo e ai capi di Giuda che si erano radunati a Gerusalemme per paura di Sisach e disse loro: "Così parla il Signore: Voi avete abbandonato me e io ho abbandonato voi nelle mani di Sisach".	5 The prophet Shemaiah then came to Rehoboam and the generals of Judah, who had fal en back onJerusalem before Shishak's advance, and said to them, 'Yahweh says this, "You have abandoned me and so Ihave abandoned you into Shishak's clutches." '
6 Allora i capi d'Israele e il re si umiliarono e dissero: "Giusto è il Signore".	6 At this, the Israelite generals and the king humbled themselves and said, 'Yahweh is just!'
7 Quando il Signore vide che si erano umiliati, fu rivolta la parola del Signore a Semaia, in questi termini: "Si sono umiliati; non li sterminerò, anzi tra breve concederò loro salvezza e la mia ira non si riverserà su Gerusalemme per mezzo di Sisach.	7 When Yahweh saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of Yahweh came to Shemaiah asfol ows, 'They have humbled themselves. I shal not destroy them but shall grant them some degree ofdeliverance. My retribution wil not be poured out on Jerusalem by means of Shishak;
8 Tuttavia saranno a lui sottomessi e così faranno l'esperienza di che cosa sia servire a me e servire ai regni delle nazioni!".	8 they are nonetheless to become his slaves, so that they may learn the difference between serving meand serving kings of other countries.'
9 Sisach, re d'Egitto, salì a Gerusalemme e prese i tesori del tempio del Signore e i tesori del palazzo reale; portò via tutto, persino gli scudi d'oro fatti fare da Salomone.	9 So Shishak king of Egypt advanced on Jerusalem and carried off the treasures of the Temple and thetreasures of the royal palace. He took everything away, including the golden shields which Solomon had made.
10 Il re Roboamo li sostituì con scudi di bronzo, affidandone la custodia ai comandanti delle guardie poste all'ingresso del palazzo reale.	10 To replace these, King Rehoboam made bronze shields, entrusting them to the commanders of theguard who guarded the king's palace gate.
11 Ogni volta che il re si recava nel tempio del Signore, le guardie venivano a prenderli e poi li riportavano nella sala delle guardie.	11 Whenever the king went to the Temple of Yahweh, the guards would come out carrying them,returning them to the guardroom afterwards.
12 Poiché Roboamo si era umiliato, la collera del Signore si distolse da lui e non lo distrusse completamente. Anzi, anche in Giuda vi fu qualche cosa di buono!	12 Because King Rehoboam had humbled himself, the retribution of Yahweh turned away from him soas not to destroy him completely; and there were also some good features in Judah.
13 Il re Roboamo si consolidò in Gerusalemme e continuò a regnare. Quando divenne re, Roboamo aveva quarantun anni; regnò diciassette anni in Gerusalemme, città che il Signore aveva scelto fra tutte le tribù d'Israele per porre ivi il suo nome. Sua madre si chiamava Naama, l'ammonita.	13 Thus he was able to strengthen his position in Jerusalem and continue as king; for Rehoboam wasforty-one years old when he came to the throne and remained king for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the citychosen by Yahweh from al the tribes of Israel to put his name there. His mother's name was Naamah theAmmonite.
14 Egli fece il male, perché non consacrò il suo cuore a ricercare il Signore.	14 But he did wrong in not setting his heart on seeking Yahweh.
15 Le gesta di Roboamo, le prime e le ultime, non sono forse descritte negli Atti del profeta Semaia e del veggente Iddo? Ciò vale anche per la genealogia e le continue guerre tra Roboamo e Geroboamo.	15 The history of Rehoboam, from first to last, is this not all written down in the records of Shemaiah theprophet and of Iddo the seer? Warfare between Rehoboam and Jeroboam went on throughout the period.
16 Roboamo si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto nella Città di Davide. Al suo posto divenne re Abia, suo figlio.	16 When Rehoboam fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of David; his son Abijahsucceeded him.
