1 - Così parlò Gesù. Poi, elevati gli occhi al cielo, disse: «Padre, l'ora è venuta: glorifica il tuo Figliuolo, affinchè il tuo Figliuolo glorifichi te;	1 After saying this, Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said: Father, the hour has come: glorify yourSon so that your Son may glorify you;
2 come tu gli hai dato ogni potere sopra ogni carne, affinchè dia la vita eterna a tutti coloro che tu gli hai dato.	2 so that, just as you have given him power over all humanity, he may give eternal life to al those youhave entrusted to him.
3 E la vita eterna è questa, che conoscano te, solo vero Dio, e Colui che hai mandato, Gesù Cristo.	3 And eternal life is this: to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
4 Io ti ho glorificato sulla terra, compiendo la missione che mi hai affidata da fare,	4 I have glorified you on earth by finishing the work that you gave me to do.
5 ed ora tu, o Padre, glorificami presso te stesso con la gloria che ebbi presso di te, quando il mondo non era.	5 Now, Father, glorify me with that glory I had with you before ever the world existed.
6 Io ho manifestato il tuo nome agli uomini che mi hai dato nel mondo; erano tuoi e tu me li hai dati, ed essi hanno conservata la tua parola.	6 I have revealed your name to those whom you took from the world to give me. They were yours andyou gave them to me, and they have kept your word.
7 Ora riconoscono che tutto quanto tu mi hai dato, viene da te,	7 Now at last they have recognised that all you have given me comes from you
8 perchè le parole che mi hai date, io le ho date ad essi, e le hanno ricevute, riconoscendo veramente che io sono uscito da te e hanno creduto che tu mi hai mandato.	8 for I have given them the teaching you gave to me, and they have indeed accepted it and know forcertain that I came from you, and have believed that it was you who sent me.
9 Io prego per loro; non prego per il mondo, ma per coloro che mi hai dati, perchè sono tuoi.	9 It is for them that I pray. I am not praying for the world but for those you have given me, because theybelong to you.
10 Ogni cosa mia è tua, e ogni cosa tua è mia, ed io sono glorificato in essi.	10 All I have is yours and al you have is mine, and in them I am glorified.
11 Io non sono più nel mondo, ma essi sono nel mondo, e io vengo a te, Padre santo; conserva nel tuo nome coloro che tu mi hai dato, affinchè siano uno come siamo noi. Quando ero con loro, li conservavo nel tuo nome.	11 I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keepthose you have given me true to your name, so that they may be one like us.
12 Quelli che tu mi hai dato, li ho custoditi e nessuno di loro è perito, tranne il figlio di perdizione, e questo affinchè s'adempisse la Scrittura.	12 While I was with them, I kept those you had given me true to your name. I have watched over themand not one is lost except one who was destined to be lost, and this was to fulfil the scriptures.
13 Ma ora io vengo a te e questo dico al mondo, affinchè abbiano in sè la pienezza del mio gaudio.	13 But now I am coming to you and I say these things in the world to share my joy with them to the full.
14 Io ho dato ad essi la tua parola, e il mondo li ha odiati, perchè non sono del mondo, come io non sono del mondo.	14 I passed your word on to them, and the world hated them, because they belong to the world no morethan I belong to the world.
15 Non domando che tu li tolga dal mondo, ma che li preservi dal male.	15 I am not asking you to remove them from the world, but to protect them from the Evil One.
16 Essi non sono del mondo, come anch'io non sono del mondo.	16 They do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world.
17 Santificali nella verità; la tua parola è la verità.	17 Consecrate them in the truth; your word is truth.
18 Come tu hai mandato me nel mondo, così anch'io ho mandato loro nel mondo.	18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world,
19 E per essi io santifico me stesso, affinchè anch'essi siano santificati nella verità.	19 and for their sake I consecrate myself so that they too may be consecrated in truth.
20 E prego non solamente per essi, ma anche per quelli che, mediante la loro parola, crederanno in me,	20 I pray not only for these but also for those who through their teaching wil come to believe in me.
21 affinchè siano tutti uno; come tu, Padre, sei in me e io sono in te, anch'essi siano uno in noi, affinchè il mondo creda che tu mi hai mandato.	21 May they al be one, just as, Father, you are in me and I am in you, so that they also may be in us, sothat the world may believe it was you who sent me.
22 Io ho dato loro la gloria che tu hai dato a me, affinchè siano uno, come noi siamo uno;	22 I have given them the glory you gave to me, that they may be one as we are one.
23 io in loro e tu in me, affinchè siano perfetti nell'unità e il mondo riconosca che tu mi hai mandato e che li hai amati, come hai amato me.	23 With me in them and you in me, may they be so perfected in unity that the world wil recognise that itwas you who sent me and that you have loved them as you have loved me.
24 Padre, io voglio che quelli che mi hai dati, dove sono io, siano anch'essi meco e veggano la mia gloria, che tu mi hai accordato, poichè tu mi hai amato prima ancora della creazione del mondo.	24 Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, so that they may always see myglory which you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.
25 Padre giusto, il mondo non ti ha conosciuto; io però ti conobbi, e costoro hanno riconosciuto che tu mi hai mandato.	25 Father, Upright One, the world has not known you, but I have known you, and these have known thatyou have sent me.
26 Io ho fatto loro conoscere il tuo nome e lo farò conoscere affinchè l'amore con cui mi hai amato sia in essi ed io in loro».	26 I have made your name known to them and wil continue to make it known, so that the love withwhich you loved me may be in them, and so that I may be in them.
