1 Then Boaz went up to the gate, and he sat there. And when he had seen the kinsman passing by, whom he had previously discussed, he spoke to him, calling him by his name, “Pause for a little while, and sit down here.” He turned aside and sat down.	1 E sali suso Booz alla porta, e sedeva quivi. E avendo veduto quello ch' era più prossimano a Rut, del quale abbiamo detto (e favellato), sì gli disse: fatti in quà uno poco, e siedi qui, chiamandolo per nome suo. Il quale passò oltre, e venne a sedere.
2 But Boaz, calling aside ten men among the elders of the city, said to them, “Sit down here.”	2 Chiamando Booz X uomini, de' più antichi della cittade, disse loro: sedete qui:
3 They settled down, and he spoke to the kinsman, “Naomi, who has returned from the region of the Moabites, is selling part of a field of our brother Elimelech.	3 I quali sedendo, (favellò loro, e) disse a questo suo parente: la parte del campo del nostro fratello Elimelec sì vende Noemi, la quale si è tornata della contrada de' Moabiti.
4 I wanted you to hear this, and to tell you in front of everyone sitting here, including the eldest of my people. If you will take possession of it by the right of kinship, buy it and possess it. But if it displeases you, you should reveal this to me, so that I will know what I have to do. For there is no near kinsman besides you, who is before me, and I am after you.” But he answered, “I will buy the field.”	4 La quale cosa voglio (e sono lieto) che tu abbi udita, e voglioti dire dinanzi a costoro i quali seggono qui, e [sono] maggiori del popolo mio, cioè di nazione; quello campo, se tu il vogli possedere e tenere, per ragione che se' il più prossimo parente, sì il compra e possedilo; ma se questo ti dispiace, dillomi, acciò ch' io sappia quello ch' io m'abbia a fare; imperciò che niuno è più prossimano parente, fuori che tu che se' il primo, e me che sono il secondo. E quegli respuose (e disse): io compro il campo.
5 And Boaz said to him, “When buying the field, you are likewise obliged to accept the hand of the woman Ruth, the Moabite, who was the wife of the deceased, so that you may raise up the name of your near kinsman through his posterity.”	5 Al quale disse Booz: quando tu averai comprato il campo della mano della buona femina, (vedi che) tu dèi pigliare per moglie Rut di Moab, che fue moglie di colui che è morto, acciò che tu resusciti il seme (cioè facci figliuolo) del tuo parente, chè non si spenga la casa sua.
6 He answered, “I yield my right of kinship, for I am obliged not to cut off the posterity of my own family. You may make use of my privilege, which I freely declare I will forego.”	6 Il quale sì respuose e disse: io (dò luogo, e) rinunzio alla ragione ch' io ho per lo parentado; imperciò ch' io non debbo spegnere la famiglia mia che viene dietro a me (del fratello mio; io temo di usare il privilegio); ma usa tu il mio privilegio (e la mia ragione) della quale io confesso volontieri di non l'avere.
7 Yet it was the custom between kinsmen in this former time in Israel, that if at anytime one yielded his right to another, so as to confirm his permission, the man took off his shoe and gave it to his neighbor. This was a testimony of concession in Israel.	7 Imperciò che questa era l' usanza anticamente in Israel tra' prossimani di parentado, che se (fosse cosa o) intervenisse che l'uno desse all' altro la sua ragione, acciò che fosse (vera e) ferma concessione traevasi l'uomo il calzamento suo, e sì lo dava al parente suo più prossimano; e questo si era in Israel il testimonio, come renunziava alla ragione sua.
8 And so Boaz said to his kinsman, “Take off your shoe.” And immediately he released it from his foot.	8 E allora disse Booz a chi egli era più presso parente: (poi che tu rinunzii alla tua ragione) tratti i calzamenti. Il quale incontanente sì li trasse del piede suo.
9 And he said to the eldest and to all the people, “You are witnesses this day, that I have taken possession of all that belonged to Elimelech and Chilion and Mahlon, and was bequeathed to Naomi.	9 E disse Booz alli maggiori della città e a tutto il popolo: oggi siete tutti testimonii, ch' io sia entrato in possessione di tutte quelle cose le quali furono di Elimelec e di Chelion e di Maalon, dando Noemi,
10 And Ruth, the Moabite, the wife of Mahlon, I have taken in marriage so as to raise up the name of the deceased in his posterity, so that his name will not be cut off from among his family and his brethren and his people. You, I say, are witnesses of this thing.”	10 e di Rut Moabite, che fue moglie di Maalon; la quale io piglio insino a qui per moglie (in vostra presenza), acciò ch' io resusciti il nome (e il seme) di quello morto nella sua eredità, acciò che il nome suo e de' suoi fratelli della sua famiglia non si spenga (nè venga meno) del popolo suo. Voi, vi dico, voi siete testimonii di questa cosa.
11 All the people who were at the gate, along with the eldest, answered, “We are witnesses. May the Lord make this woman, who enters into your house, like Rachel, and Leah, who built up the house of Israel, so that she may be an example of virtue in Ephrathah, and so that her name may be honored in Bethlehem.	11 E rispose tutto il popolo, che era in su la porta, e' maggiori (e più nobili della cittade): noi siamo testimonii; preghiamo Iddio Signore, che faccia questa femina, la quale entra in casa tua, come Rachel e Lia che (furono moglie ed) edificarono casa in Israel, acciò che sia esempio di virtù in Efrata, e abbia nome grande, e onorevole in Betleem;
12 And may your house be like the house of Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah, of the offspring which the Lord will give to you from this young woman.”	12 e facciasi (e diventi) la casa tua, come la casa di Fares, il quale Tamar sì partorì (e fece) a Giuda, di quello seme (e di quelli figliuoli) che Iddio t' avrà dato di questa fanciulla.
13 And so Boaz took Ruth, and received her as his wife, and he went in to her, and the Lord granted to her to conceive and bear a son.	13 E pigliò Booz Rut, e sì la tolse per moglie; lo quale sì (andò e istette e) usò con lei, e dielle Iddio questa grazia, che ingravidasse e sì gli partorisse uno figliuolo.
14 And the women said to Naomi, “Blessed be the Lord, who has not permitted your family to be without a successor, and may his name be called upon in Israel.	14 E dissono le femine a Noemi: benedetto sia Iddio Signore, il quale non ha (sostenuto nè) patito, che sie venuto meno lo quale succeda alla famiglia tua, e (voglio che) sia chiamato il suo nome in Israel.
15 And now you may have someone to comfort your soul and to care for you in old age, for he is born of your daughter-in-law, who loves you, and this is much better for you, than if you had seven sons.”	15 E ancora abbi chi consoli l'anima tua, e sì nutrichi la tua vecchiezza; imperciò che della nuora tua sì è nato colui il quale t' amerà; e assai egli è (molto) meglio costui, che se tu avessi sette figliuoli.
16 And taking up the boy, Naomi placed him on her bosom, and she took on the duties of carrying him and nursing him.	16 E preso Noemi il fanciullo, sì lo puose al petto suo (cioè al braccio suo il prese); e sì facea l'officio della nutrice.
17 And the women of the near future were congratulating her and saying, “There was a son born to Naomi. They called his name Obed. Here is the father of Jesse, the father of David.”	17 E le femine ch' erano sue vicine sì le mostravano grande letizia (e allegrezza), dicendo: egli è nato uno figliuolo a Noemi. E puosergli nome Obed. Quegli sì fue il padre di Isai, che fue padre di David re.
18 These are the generations of Perez: Perez conceived Hezron,	18 Queste sono le generazioni di Fares: Fares generò Esron.
19 Hezron conceived Aram, Aram conceived Amminadab,	19 Esron sì generò Aram; Aram sì generò Aminadab.
20 Amminadab conceived Nahshon, Nahshon conceived Salmon,	20 Aminadab sì generò Naasson; Naasson generò Salmon.
21 Salmon conceived Boaz, Boaz conceived Obed,	21 Salmon sì generò Booz; Booz sì generò Obed.
22 Obed conceived Jesse, Jesse conceived David.	22 Obed generò Isai; Isai sì generò David. (David sì generò Salomone sapientissimo).
