1 Now it happened that, while Apollo was at Corinth, Paul, after he had journeyed through the upper regions, arrived at Ephesus. And he met with certain disciples.	1 Mientras Apolo permanecía en Corinto, Pablo atravesando la región interior, llegó a Efeso. Allí encontró a algunos discípulos
2 And he said to them, “After believing, have you received the Holy Spirit?” But they said to him, “We have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”	2 y les preguntó: «Cuando ustedes abrazaron la fe, ¿recibieron el Espíritu Santo?». Ellos le dijeron: «Ni siquiera hemos oído decir que hay un Espíritu Santo».
3 Yet truly, he said, “Then with what have you been baptized?” And they said, “With the baptism of John.”	3 «Entonces, ¿qué bautismo recibieron?», les preguntó Pablo. «El de Juan», respondieron.
4 Then Paul said: “John baptized the people with the baptism of repentance, saying that they should believe in the One who is to come after him, that is, in Jesus.”	4 Pablo les dijo: «Juan bautizaba con el bautismo de penitencia, diciendo al pueblo que creyera en el que vendría después de él, es decir, en Jesús».
5 Upon hearing these things, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.	5 Al oír estas palabras, ellos se hicieron bautizar en el nombre del Señor Jesús.
6 And when Paul had imposed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came over them. And they were speaking in tongues and prophesying.	6 Pablo les impuso las manos, y descendió sobre ellos el Espíritu Santo. Entonces comenzaron a hablar en distintas lenguas y a profetizar.
7 Now the men were about twelve in all.	7 Eran en total unos doce hombres.
8 Then, upon entering the synagogue, he was speaking faithfully for three months, disputing and persuading them about the kingdom of God.	8 Pablo fue luego a la sinagoga y durante tres meses predicó abiertamente, hablando sobre el Reino de Dios y tratando de persuadir a los oyentes.
9 But when certain ones became hardened and would not believe, cursing the Way of the Lord in the presence of the multitude, Paul, withdrawing from them, separated the disciples, disputing daily in a certain school of Tyrannus.	9 Pero como algunos se obstinaban y se negaban a creer, denigrando el Camino del Señor delante de la asamblea, Pablo rompió con ellos. Luego tomó aparte a sus discípulos y dialogaba diariamente en la escuela de Tirano.
10 Now this was done throughout two years, so that all who were living in Asia listened to the Word of the Lord, both Jews and Gentiles.	10 Así lo hizo durante dos años, de modo que todos los habitantes de la provincia de Asia, judíos y paganos, tuvieron ocasión de escuchar la Palabra del Señor.
11 And God was accomplishing powerful and uncommon miracles by the hand of Paul,	11 Por intermedio de Pablo, Dios realizaba milagros poco comunes,
12 so much so that even when small cloths and wrappings were brought from his body to the sick, the illnesses withdrew from them and the wicked spirits departed.	12 hasta tal punto que el aplicarse sobre los enfermos pañuelos o lienzos que habían tocado el cuerpo de Pablo, aquellos se curaban y quedaban libres de los malos espíritus.
13 Then, even some of the traveling Jewish exorcists had attempted to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “I bind you by oath through Jesus, whom Paul preaches.”	13 Algunos exorcistas ambulantes judíos, hicieron la prueba de pronunciar el nombre del Señor Jesús sobre los poseídos por los malos espíritus, diciendo: «Yo los conjuro por ese Jesús que anuncia Pablo».
14 And there were certain Jews, the seven sons of Sceva, leaders among the priests, who were acting in this way.	14 Un cierto Sevas, Sumo Sacerdote judío, tenía siete hijos que practicaban estos exorcismos.
15 But a wicked spirit responded by saying to them: “Jesus I know, and Paul I know. But who are you?”	15 El espíritu malo les respondió: «Yo conozco a Jesús y sé quién es Pablo, pero ustedes, ¿quiénes son?».
16 And the man, in whom there was a wicked spirit, leaping at them and getting the better of them both, prevailed against them, so that they fled from that house, naked and wounded.	16 Y el hombre poseído por el espíritu malo, abalanzándose sobre los exorcistas, los dominó a todos y los maltrató de tal manera que debieron escaparse de esa casa desnudos y cubiertos de heridas.
17 And so, this became known to all the Jews and Gentiles who were living at Ephesus. And a fear fell over them all. And the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.	17 Todos los habitantes de Efeso, tanto judíos como paganos, se enteraron de este hecho y, llenos de temor, glorificaban el nombre del Señor Jesús.
18 And many believers were arriving, confessing, and announcing their deeds.	18 Muchos de los que habían abrazado la fe vinieron a confesar abiertamente sus prácticas,
19 Then many of those who had followed odd sects brought together their books, and they burned them in the sight of all. And after determining the value of these, they found the price to be fifty thousand denarii.	19 y un buen número de los que se habían dedicado a la magia traían sus libros y los quemaban delante de todos. Se estimó que el valor de estos libros alcanzaba a unas cincuenta mil monedas de plata.
20 In this way, the Word of God was increasing strongly and was being confirmed.	20 Así, por el poder del Señor, la Palabra se difundía y se afianzaba.
21 Then, when these things were completed, Paul decided in the Spirit, after crossing through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, “Then, after I have been there, it is necessary for me to see Rome also.”	21 Después de esto, Pablo se propuso ir a Jerusalén pasando por Macedonia y Acaya. «Primero iré allí, decía, y luego tendré que ir también a Roma».
22 But sending two of those who were ministering to him, Timothy and Erastus, into Macedonia, he himself remained for a time in Asia.	22 Envió a Macedonia a dos de sus colaboradores, Timoteo y Erasto, y él permaneció en Asia un tiempo más.
23 Now at that time, there occurred no small disturbance concerning the Way of the Lord.	23 Fue entonces, cuando se produjeron graves desórdenes a causa del Camino del Señor.
24 For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith making silver shrines for Diana, was providing no small profit to craftsmen.	24 Un orfebre llamado Demetrio fabricaba reproducciones en plata del templo de Diana, proporcionando así abundante trabajo a los artesanos.
25 And calling them together, with those who were employed in the same way, he said: “Men, you know that our income is from this craft.	25 Demetrio los reunió, junto con los que habían trabajos similares, y les dijo: «Ustedes saben perfectamente que nuestro bienestar depende de esta industria.
26 And you are seeing and hearing that this man Paul, by persuasion, has turned away a great multitude, not only from Ephesus, but from nearly all of Asia, saying, ‘These things are not gods which have been made by hands.’	26 Pero ahora ustedes mismos ven y oyen que no solamente en Efeso, sino también en casi toda la provincia de Asia, ese Pablo ha conquistado y seducido a mucha gente, pretendiendo que los dioses fabricados por mano de hombre no son dioses.
27 Thus, not only is this, our occupation, in danger of being brought into repudiation, but also the temple of the great Diana will be reputed as nothing! Then even her majesty, whom all of Asia and the world worships, will begin to be destroyed.”	27 De esa manera, no solamente nuestra profesión está amenazada de caer en el descrédito, sino que el templo mismo de la gran diosa Diana corre el riesgo de ser tenido por nada, y aquella a quien adoran toda el Asia y el mundo entero, terminará por quedar despojada de su prestigio.».
28 Upon hearing this, they were filled with anger, and they cried out, saying, “Great is Diana of the Ephesians!”	28 Al oír estas palabras, la multitud se enfureció y comenzó a gritar: «¡Viva la gran Diana de los efesios!»,
29 And the city was filled with confusion. And having seized Gaius and Aristarchus of Macedonia, companions of Paul, they rushed violently, with one accord, into the amphitheatre.	29 y se produjo un gran desorden en la ciudad. Todos irrumpieron en el teatro, arrastrando a los macedonios Gayo y Aristarco, compañeros de viaje de Pablo.
30 Then, when Paul wanted to enter to the people, the disciples would not permit him.	30 Pablo quería presentarse delante de la asamblea, pero sus discípulos se lo impidieron.
31 And some of the leaders from Asia, who were his friends, also sent to him, requesting that he not present himself in the amphitheatre.	31 Hasta algunos magistrados de la ciudad, que eran amigos suyos, le rogaron que no se expusiera yendo al teatro.
32 But others were crying out various things. For the assembly was in confusion, and most did not know the reason they had been called together.	32 Todo el mundo gritaba al mismo tiempo, ya que la confusión reinaba en la concurrencia, y la mayor parte ni siquiera sabía por qué se había reunido.
33 So they dragged Alexander from the crowd, while the Jews were propelling him forward. And Alexander, gesturing with his hand for silence, wanted to give the people an explanation.	33 Entonces hicieron salir de entre la multitud a Alejandro, a quien los judíos empujaban hacia adelante. Este, pidiendo silencio con la mano, quería dar una explicación a la asamblea.
34 But as soon as they realized him to be a Jew, all with one voice, for about two hours, were crying out, “Great is Diana of the Ephesians!”	34 Pero en cuanto advirtieron que era un judío, todos se pusieron a gritar unánimemente durante dos horas: «¡Viva la gran Diana de los efesios!».
35 And when the scribe had calmed the crowds, he said: “Men of Ephesus, now what man is there who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is in the service of the great Diana and of the offspring of Jupiter?	35 Por fin, el secretario de la ciudad consiguió calmar a la multitud, diciendo: «Efesios, ¿qué hombre de este mundo ignora que la ciudad de Efeso es la guardiana del templo de la gran diosa Diana y de su estatua venida del cielo?
36 Therefore, since these things are not able to be contradicted, it is necessary for you to be calm and to do nothing rash.	36 Siendo esta una verdad innegable, deben quedarse tranquilos y no actuar apresuradamente.
37 For you have brought forward these men, who are neither sacrilegious nor blasphemers against your goddess.	37 Esos hombres que ustedes trajeron, no han cometido ningún sacrilegio ni han dicho ninguna blasfemia contra nuestra diosa.
38 But if Demetrius and the craftsmen who are with him have a case against anyone, they can convene in the courts, and there are proconsuls. Let them accuse one another.	38 Y si Demetrio y sus artesanos tienen una queja contra alguien, para eso están los tribunales y los procónsules ante quienes se pueden presentar las acusaciones.
39 But if you would inquire about other things, this can be decided in a lawful assembly.	39 Si ustedes tienen que debatir algún otro asunto, se decidirá en la asamblea legal.
40 For now we are in peril of being convicted of sedition over today’s events, since there is no one guilty (against whom we are able to provide evidence) in this gathering.” And when he had said this, he dismissed the assembly.	40 Porque corremos el riesgo de ser acusados de sediciosos, a causa de lo que acaba de suceder, ya que no tenemos ningún motivo para justificar este tumulto». Y con estas palabras, disolvió la asamblea.
