Mark 9

1 And after six days, Jesus took with him Peter, and James, and John; and he led them separately to a lofty mountain alone; and he was transfigured before them.	1 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.
2 And his vestments became radiant and exceedingly white like snow, with such a brilliance as no fuller on earth is able to achieve.	2 And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them.
3 And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses; and they were speaking with Jesus.	3 And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.
4 And in response, Peter said to Jesus: “Master, it is good for us to be here. And so let us make three tabernacles, one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”	4 And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.
5 For he did not know what he was saying. For they were overwhelmed by fear.	5 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
6 And there was a cloud overshadowing them. And a voice came from the cloud, saying: “This is my most beloved Son. Listen to him.”	6 For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid.
7 And immediately, looking around, they no longer saw anyone, except Jesus alone with them.	7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.
8 And as they were descending from the mountain, he instructed them not to relate to anyone what they had seen, until after the Son of man will have risen again from the dead.	8 And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves.
9 And they kept the word to themselves, arguing about what “after he will have risen from the dead” might mean.	9 And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.
10 And they questioned him, saying: “Then why do the Pharisees and the scribes say that Elijah must arrive first?”	10 And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.
11 And in response, he said to them: “Elijah, when he will arrive first, shall restore all things. And in the manner that it has been written about the Son of man, so must he suffer many things and be condemned.	11 And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come?
12 But I say to you, that Elijah also has arrived, (and they have done to him whatever they wanted) just as it has been written about him.”	12 And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.
13 And approaching his disciples, he saw a great crowd surrounding them, and the scribes were arguing with them.	13 But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.
14 And soon all the people, seeing Jesus, were astonished and struck with fear, and hurrying to him, they greeted him.	14 And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.
15 And he questioned them, “What are you arguing about among yourselves?”	15 And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.
16 And one from the crowd responded by saying: “Teacher, I have brought to you my son, who has a mute spirit.	16 And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?
17 And whenever it takes hold of him, it throws him down, and he foams and gnashes with his teeth, and he becomes unconscious. And I asked your disciples to cast him out, and they could not.”	17 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;
18 And answering them, he said: “O unbelieving generation, how long must I be with you? How long shall I endure you? Bring him to me.”	18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.
19 And they brought him. And when he had seen him, immediately the spirit disturbed him. And having been thrown to the ground, he rolled around foaming.	19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.
20 And he questioned his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” But he said: “From infancy.	20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
21 And often it casts him into fire or into water, in order to destroy him. But if you are able to do anything, help us and take pity on us.”	21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
22 But Jesus said to him, “If you are able to believe: all things are possible to one who believes.”	22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
23 And immediately the father of the boy, crying out with tears, said: “I do believe, Lord. Help my unbelief.”	23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
24 And when Jesus saw the crowd rushing together, he admonished the unclean spirit, saying to him, “Deaf and mute spirit, I command you, leave him; and do not enter into him anymore.”	24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
25 And crying out, and convulsing him greatly, he departed from him. And he became like one who is dead, so much so that many said, “He is dead.”	25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
26 But Jesus, taking him by the hand, lifted him up. And he arose.	26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
27 And when he had entered into the house, his disciples questioned him privately, “Why were we unable to cast him out?”	27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
28 And he said to them, “This kind is able to be expelled by nothing other than prayer and fasting.”	28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?
29 And setting out from there, they passed through Galilee. And he intended that no one know about it.	29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
30 Then he taught his disciples, and he said to them, “For the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him, and having been killed, on the third day he will rise again.”	30 And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it.
31 But they did not understand the word. And they were afraid to question him.	31 For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.
32 And they went to Capernaum. And when they were in the house, he questioned them, “What did you discuss on the way?”	32 But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.
33 But they were silent. For indeed, on the way, they had disputed among themselves as to which of them was greater.	33 And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?
34 And sitting down, he called the twelve, and he said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he shall be the last of all and the minister of all.”	34 But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.
35 And taking a child, he set him in their midst. And when he had embraced him, he said to them:	35 And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.
36 “Whoever receives one such child in my name, receives me. And whoever receives me, receives not me, but him who sent me.”	36 And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them,
37 John responded to him by saying, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name; he does not follow us, and so we prohibited him.”	37 Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.
38 But Jesus said: “Do not prohibit him. For there is no one who can act with virtue in my name and soon speak evil about me.	38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.
39 For whoever is not against you is for you.	39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.
40 For whoever, in my name, will give you a cup of water to drink, because you belong to Christ: Amen I say to you, he shall not lose his reward.	40 For he that is not against us is on our part.
41 And whoever will have scandalized one of these little ones who believe in me: it would be better for him if a great millstone were placed around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.	41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
42 And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off: it is better for you to enter into life disabled, than having two hands to go into Hell, into the unquenchable fire,	42 And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.
43 where their worm does not die, and the fire is not extinguished.	43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
44 But if your foot causes you to sin, chop it off: it is better for you to enter into eternal life lame, than having two feet to be cast into the Hell of unquenchable fire,	44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
45 where their worm does not die, and the fire is not extinguished.	45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
46 But if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out: it is better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into the Hell of fire,	46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
47 where their worm does not die, and the fire is not extinguished.	47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:
48 For all shall be salted with fire, and every victim shall be salted with salt.	48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
49 Salt is good: but if the salt has become bland, with what will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace among yourselves.”	49 For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.
	50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.
