1 I will stand firm during my watch, and fix my position over the fortification. And I will observe carefully, to see what might be said to me and what I might respond to my opponent.	1 Io starò vegliante a far la mia sentinella, pianterò il piede sul forte per vedere quello, che a me dirassi, e quel, ch'io abbia a rispondere a chi mi riprende.
2 And the Lord responded to me and said: Write the vision and explain it on tablets, so that he who reads it may run through it.	2 E il Signore mi rispose, e disse: Scrivi la visione, e stendila sopra le tavolette, affinchè chi la legge, la scorra agevolmente;
3 For as yet the vision is far off, and it will appear in the end, and it will not lie. If it expresses any delay, wait for it. For it is arriving and it will arrive, and it will not be hindered.	3 Perocché la visione è di cosa ancor lontana; ma apparirà nel fine, e non sarà menzognera. Se differirà, tu aspettalo; perocché il venturo verrà, e non tarderà.
4 Behold, he who is unbelieving, his soul will not be right within himself; but he who is just shall live in his faith.	4 Ma chi è incredulo, non ha in se un'anima giusta. Il giusto poi nella fede sua viverà.
5 And in the manner that wine deceives the heavy drinker, so will the arrogant man be deceived, and he will not be honored. He has enlarged his life like hellfire, and himself like death, and he is never fulfilled. And he will gather to himself all nations, and he will amass for himself all peoples.	5 Ma siccome il vino inganna chi lo beve, cosi sarà dell'uomo superbo, il quale resterà senza onore. Egli, che ha le voglie ampie come l'inferno, ed è insaziabile come la morte, e sotto di se riunir vorrebbe tutte le genti, e tutti insieme ammassare i popoli.
6 Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and an enigmatic utterance about him? And it will be said, “Woe to him who increases what is not his own.” How long, then, will he lay down dense clay against himself?	6 Non canteranno forse tutti questi sopra di lui la loro parabola, e i loro proverbi, e non si dirà egli: Guai a chi accumula roba non sua: e fino a quando mette egli insieme in suo danno il denso fango?
7 Shall they not suddenly rise up, who would bite you, and be stirred up, who would tear you, so that you will be a prey for them?	7 Non si leverà egli su repentinamente chi ti morderà; e non verrà fuori chi ti sbranerà, e tu sarai loro preda?
8 Because you have despoiled many peoples, all those who are left of the people shall despoil you, because of the blood of men, and the iniquity of the earth, of the city and all who dwell therein.	8 Perchè tu hai spogliate molte genti spoglieranno te tutti coloro, che saranno rimasi di quelle nazioni, a motivo del sangue degli uomini, e per le iniquità fatte contro la terra, contro la città, e tutti i suoi abitatori.
9 Woe to him who gathers together an evil greed for his house, so that his nest may be exalted, and thinking that he might free himself from the hand of evil.	9 Guai a chi raguna i frutti di un'avarizia perniciosa alla propria casa, affinchè sia più in alto il suo nido, credendo di salvarsi dagli artigli del male.
10 You have devised confusion for your house, you have cut to pieces many peoples, and your soul has sinned.	10 Tu hai studiato il modo di disonorar la tua casa; hai straziati molti popoli, e l'anima tua peccò.
11 For the stone will cry out from the wall, and the wood that is between the joints of the building will respond.	11 Perocché i sassi alzeran le voci dalla muraglia, e il legname, che sta nelle giunture della fabbrica, replicherà:
12 Woe to him who builds a town with blood and prepares a city by iniquity.	12 Guai a chi edifica una città a forza di sangue sparso, e la fonda sull'iniquità,
13 Are not these things before the Lord of hosts? For the people will labor amid a great fire, and the nations will labor in emptiness, and they will fail.	13 Queste cose non son elleno (predette) dal Signore degli eserciti? imperocché si affanneranno in vano i popoli, e le genti per un gran fuoco, e verran meno.
14 For the earth shall be filled, that they might know the glory of the Lord, like the waters spreading over the sea.	14 Perocché la terra sarà inondata, come l'alveo del mare è coperto dalle acque, affinchè sia conosciuta la gloria del Signore.
15 Woe to anyone who gives a drink to a friend, releasing a drug and inebriating, so as to look upon their nakedness.	15 Guai a colui, che dà da bere al suo amico, mescendovi il suo fiele, e lo imbriaca per vederlo ignudo.
16 You are filled with disgrace in place of glory. So then, drink and fall fast asleep, for the cup of the right hand of the Lord will surround you, and a disgraceful vomit will cover your glory.	16 Invece di gloria, tu sarai ricolmo d'ignominia: bevi anche tu, e assopisciti: starà intorno a te il calice della destra del Signore; e un vomito obbrobrioso (verrà) sopra la tua gloria.
17 For the iniquity of Lebanon will cover you, and the devastation of animals which will deter them from the blood of men, and the iniquity of the earth and the city, and of all who dwell therein.	17 Conciossiachè le iniquità fatte sul Libano ti sommergeranno; e la distruzione fatta da queste fiere le atterrirà, per ragion del sangue degli uomini, e per l'iniquità contro la terra, e la città, e tutti i suoi abitatori.
18 Of what benefit is the graven image? For its maker has formed it, a molten and imaginary deception. For its maker has hoped in a figment of his own creation, so as to make a dumb likeness.	18 A che giova la statua fatta dal suo artefice collo scalpello, e la falsa figura di getto? Pur l'artefice pone speranza nel suo lavoro, e fa de' nuovi simolacri.
19 Woe to him who says to wood, “Awaken,” to the silent stone, “Arise.” Is it able to teach? Behold, it has been entirely covered with gold and silver; and there is no spirit at all in its inner workings.	19 Guai a colui, che dice al legno: Svegliati: e alla morta pietra: Alzati. Può ella forse insegnare a te? Ecco, che ella è coperta di oro, e d'argento; ma spirito alcuno nelle viscere di lei non è.
20 But the Lord is in his holy temple. May all the earth be silent before his face.	20 Ma il Signore è nel suo tempio santo. Dinanzi a lui si taccia la terra.
