Daniel 6

1 It pleased Darius, and so he appointed over the kingdom one hundred twenty governors, to be placed throughout his whole kingdom.	1 Y Darío el medo lo sucedió en el trono a los sesenta y dos años de edad.
2 And over these, three leaders, of whom Daniel was one, so that the governors would be accountable to them and the king would have no trouble.	2 Darío consideró oportuno poner al frente del reino a ciento veinte sátrapas, distribuidos por todo el reino,
3 And so Daniel excelled above all the leaders and governors, because a greater spirit of God was in him.	3 y establecer sobre ellos a tres ministros –entre los cuales estaba Daniel– a quienes esos sátrapas debían rendir cuenta, a fin de que no se atentara contra los intereses del rey.
4 Furthermore, the king considered setting him over the entire kingdom; whereupon the leaders and the governors sought to find a complaint against Daniel and in favor of the king. And they could find no case, or even suspicion, because he was faithful, and no fault or suspicion was found in him.	4 Ahora bien, este Daniel sobresalía entre los ministros y sátrapas, porque había en él un espíritu superior, y el rey pensaba ponerlo al frente de todo el reino.
5 Therefore, these men said, “We will not find any complaint against this Daniel, unless it is against the law of his God.”	5 Por eso los ministros y los sátrapas trataron de encontrar un pretexto para acusar a Daniel en lo referente a los asuntos del reino. Pero no pudieron encontrar ningún pretexto ni falta, porque él era fiel y no se le descubrió ninguna negligencia ni falta.
6 Then the leaders and governors took the king aside privately and spoke to him in this way: “King Darius, live forever.	6 Esos hombres, dijeron: «No encontraremos ningún motivo de acusación contra Daniel, sino es en la Ley de su Dios».
7 All the leaders of your kingdom, the magistrates and governors, the senators and judges, have taken counsel that an imperial decree and edict should be published, so that all who ask any petition of any god or man for thirty days, except of you, O king, will be cast into the den of lions.	7 Los ministros y los sátrapas acudieron precipitadamente al rey y hablaron así: «¡Viva eternamente el rey Darío!
8 Now, therefore, O king, confirm this judgment and write the decree, so that what is established by the Medes and Persians may not be altered, nor will any man be allowed to transgress it.”	8 Todos los ministros del reino, los prefectos y los sátrapas, los familiares y los gobernadores, se han puesto de acuerdo para que el rey promulgue un edicto y ponga en vigencia una prohibición, a saber: Todo el que dentro de los próximos treinta días dirija una plegaria a cualquier dios u hombre que no seas tú, rey, será arrojado en el foso de los leones.
9 And so king Darius set forth the decree and established it.	9 Por lo tanto, rey, promulga la prohibición y consígnala por escrito, para que no sea modificada, conforme a la ley de los medos y de los persas, que es irrevocable».
10 Now when Daniel learned of this, namely, that the law had been established, he entered his house, and, opening the windows in his upper room towards Jerusalem, he knelt down three times a day, and he adored and gave thanks before his God, as he had been accustomed to do previously.	10 A causa de esto, el rey Darío puso por escrito la prohibición.
11 Therefore, these men, inquiring diligently, discovered that Daniel was praying and making supplication to his God.	11 Cuando Daniel supo que el documento había sido firmado, entró en su casa. Esta tenía en el piso superior unas ventanas que se abrían en dirección a Jerusalén, y tres veces por día, él se ponía de rodillas, invocando y alabando a su Dios, como lo había hecho antes.
12 And they approached and spoke to the king about the edict. “O king, did you not decree that every man who makes a request to any of the gods or men for thirty days, except to yourself, O king, would be cast into the den of lions?” To which the king replied, saying, “The sentence is true, and according to the decree of the Medes and Persians, it is not lawful to violate it.”	12 Aquellos hombres acudieron precipitadamente y encontraron a Daniel orando y suplicando a su Dios.
13 Then they answered and said before the king, “Daniel, of the sons of the captivity of Judah, is not concerned about your law, nor about the decree that you have established, but three times a day he prays his supplication.”	13 Entonces de presentaron ante el rey y, refiriéndose a la prohibición real, le dijeron: «¿Acaso no has escrito una prohibición según la cual todo el que dirija una oración dentro de los próximos treinta días, a cualquier dios u hombre que no seas tú, rey, debe ser arrojado al foso de los leones?». El rey tomó la palabra y dijo: «Así es, en efecto, según la ley de los medos y de los persas, que es irrevocable».
14 Now when the king had heard these words, he was greatly grieved, and, on behalf of Daniel, he set his heart to free him, and he labored even until sunset to rescue him.	14 Entonces ellos tomaron la palabra y dijeron en presencia del rey: «Daniel, uno de los deportados de Judá, no te ha hecho caso, rey, ni a ti ni a la prohibición que tú has escrito, y tres veces al día hace su oración».
15 But these men, knowing the king, said to him, “You know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is that every decree which the king has established may not be altered.”	15 Al oír esto, el rey se apenó profundamente y puso todo su empeño por salvar a Daniel: hasta el atardecer se esforzó por librarlo.
16 Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel and cast him into the den of lions. And the king said to Daniel, “Your God, whom you always serve, he himself will free you.”	16 Pero esos hombres acudieron precipitadamente al rey y le dijeron: «Tienes que saber, rey, que según la ley de los medos y de los persas, ninguna prohibición o edicto promulgado por el rey puede ser modificado».
17 And a stone was brought, and it was placed over the mouth of the den, which the king sealed with his own ring, and with the ring of his nobles, so that no one would act against Daniel.	17 Entonces el rey mandó traer a Daniel y arrojarlo al foso de los leones. El rey tomó la palabra y dijo a Daniel: «Tu Dios, al que sirves con tanta constancia, te salvará».
18 And the king departed into his house, and he went to bed without eating, and food was not set before him, moreover, even sleep fled from him.	18 Luego trajeron una piedra y la pusieron sobre la abertura del foso; el rey la selló con su anillo y con el anillo de sus dignatarios, para que no se cambiara nada en lo concerniente a Daniel.
19 Then the king, getting himself up at first light, went quickly to the den of lions.	19 El rey se retiró a su palacio; ayunó toda la noche, no hizo venir a sus concubinas y se le fue el sueño.
20 And coming near to the den, he cried out with a tearful voice to Daniel and spoke to him. “Daniel, servant of the living God, your God, whom you serve always, do you believe he has prevailed to free you from the lions?”	20 Al amanecer, apenas despuntado el día, el rey se levantó y fue rápidamente al foso de los leones.
21 And Daniel, answering the king, said, “O king, live forever.	21 Cuando se acercó a él, llamó a Daniel con voz angustiosa. El rey tomó la palabra y dijo a Daniel: «Daniel, servir del Dios viviente, ¿ha podido tu Dios, al que sirves con tanta constancia, salvarte de los leones?».
22 My God has sent his angel, and he has closed the mouths of the lions, and they have not harmed me, because before him justice has been found in me, and, even before you, O king, I have committed no offense.”	22 Daniel dijo al rey: «¡Viva el rey eternamente!
23 Then was the king exceedingly glad for him, and he commanded that Daniel should be taken out of the den. And Daniel was taken out of the den, and no wound was found in him, because he believed in his God.	23 Mi Dios ha enviado a su Angel y ha cerrado las fauces de los leones, y ellos no me han hecho ningún mal, porque yo he sido hallado inocente en su presencia; tampoco ante ti, rey, había cometido ningún mal».
24 Moreover, by order of the king, those men were brought who had accused Daniel, and they were cast into the lions’ den, they, and their sons, and their wives, and they did not reach the bottom of the den before the lions seized them and crushed all their bones.	24 El rey sintió una gran alegría a causa de Daniel, y ordenó que lo sacaran del foso. Daniel fue sacado del foso, y no se le encontró ni un rasguño, porque había confiado en su Dios.
25 Then king Darius wrote to all peoples, tribes, and languages dwelling in all the land. “May peace be increased with you.	25 Luego el rey mandó traer a los hombres que habían acusado a Daniel y los hizo arrojar al foso de los leones, con sus hijos y sus mujeres. Y no habían llegado aún al fondo del foso, cuando ya los leones se apoderaron de ellos y les trituraron todos los huesos.
26 It is hereby established by my decree that, in all my empire and my kingdom, they shall begin to tremble and fear the God of Daniel. For he is the living and eternal God forever, and his kingdom will not be destroyed, and his power will last forever.	26 Entonces el rey Darío escribió a todos los pueblos, naciones y lenguas que habitan sobre la tierra: «¡Tengan ustedes paz en abundancia!
27 He is the liberator and the savior, performing signs and wonders in heaven and on earth, who has freed Daniel from the lions’ den.”	27 Yo ordeno que en todo el dominio de mi reino se tiemble y se sienta temor ante el Dios de Daniel, porque él es el Dios viviente y subsiste para siempre; su reino no será destruido y su dominio durará hasta el fin.
28 Thereafter, Daniel continued through the reign of Darius until the reign of Cyrus, the Persian.	28 El salva y libera, realiza signos y prodigios en el cielo y sobre la tierra. El ha salvado a Daniel del poder de los leones».
	29 Así este Daniel estuvo en auge bajo el reinado de Darío y bajo el reinado de Ciro el persa.
