CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINEL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
And he said to me: “Son of man, eat whatever you will find; eat this scroll, and, going forth, speak to the sons of Israel.”1 El me dijo: Hijo de hombre, come lo que tienes delante: como este rollo, y ve a hablar a los israelitas.
And I opened my mouth, and he fed me that scroll.2 Yo abrí mi boca y él me hizo comer ese rollo.
And he said to me: “Son of man, your stomach shall eat, and your interior shall be filled with this scroll, which I am giving to you.” And I ate it, and in my mouth it became as sweet as honey.3 Después me dijo: Hijo de hombre, alimenta tu vientre y llena tus entrañas con este libro que yo te doy. Yo lo comí y era en mi boca dulce como la miel.
And he said to me: “Son of man, go to the house of Israel, and you shall speak my words to them.4 El me dijo: Hijo de hombre, dirígete a los israelitas y comunícales mis palabras.
For you will be sent, not to a people of profound words or of an unknown language, but to the house of Israel,5 Porque no se te envía a un pueblo que habla una lengua oscura y difícil, sino al pueblo de Israel.
and not to many peoples of profound words or of an unknown language, whose words you would not be able to understand. But if you were sent to them, they would listen to you.6 Si yo te enviará a pueblos numerosos que hablan una lengua oscura y difícil, cuyas palabras no entiendes, ellos te escucharían.
Yet the house of Israel is not willing to listen to you. For they are not willing to listen to me. Certainly, the entire house of Israel has a brazen forehead and a hardened heart.7 Pero el pueblo de Israel no querrá escucharte, porque no quieren escucharme a mí, ya que todos los israelitas tienen la frente y dura y el corazón endurecido.
Behold, I have made your face stronger than their faces, and your forehead harder than their foreheads.8 Por eso yo haré tu rostro duro como el de ellos y tu frente dura como la de ellos:
I have made your face like hardened iron and like flint. You should not fear them, and you should not have dread before their face. For they are a provoking house.”9 haré roo frente como el diamante, que es más duro que la roca. No les tengas miedo ni te acobardes delante de ellos, porque son un pueblo rebelde.
And he said to me: “Son of man, listen with your ears, and take into your heart, all my words, which I am speaking to you.10 El me dijo: Hijo de hombre, recibe en tu corazón y escucha atentamente todas las palabras que yo te diré;
And go forth and enter to those of the transmigration, to the sons of your people. And you shall speak to them. And you shall say to them: ‘Thus says the Lord God.’ Perhaps it may be that they will listen and be quieted.”11 después, dirígete a tus compatriotas que están en el exilio y háblales. Sea que te escuchen o que se nieguen a hacerlo, les dirás: «así habla el Señor».
And the Spirit took me up, and I heard behind me the voice of a great commotion, saying, “Blessed is the glory of the Lord from his place,”12 Entonces un espíritu me arrebató y oí detrás de mí el estruendo de un gran tumulto, cuando la gloria del Señor se levantó de su sitio;
and the voice of the wings of the living creatures striking against one another, and the voice of the wheels following the living creatures, and the voice of a great commotion.13 oí el ruido que hacían las alas de los seres vivientes al juntarse una con la otra, el ruido de las ruedas al lado de ellos y el estruendo de un gran tumulto.
Then the Spirit lifted me and took me away. And I went forth in bitterness, with the indignation of my spirit. For the hand of the Lord was with me, strengthening me.14 El espíritu me arrebató y me llevó, y yo fui, amargado y lleno de furor, mientras la mano del Señor pesaba fuertemente sobre mí.
And I went to those of the transmigration, to the stockpile of new crops, to those who were living beside the river Chebar. And I sat where they were sitting. And I remained there for seven days, while mourning in their midst.15 Así llegué a Tel Aviv, junto a los deportados, que habitaban a orillas del río Quebar; y allí permanecí siete días como aturdido en medio de ellos.
Then, when seven days had passed, the word of the Lord came to me, saying:16 Al cabo de siete días, la palabra del Señor me llegó en estos términos:
“Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. And so, you shall listen to the word from my mouth, and you shall announce it to them from me.17 Hijo de hombre, yo te he puesto como centinela del pueblo de Israel. Cuando escuches una palabra de mi boca, tú les advertirás de parte mía.
If, when I say to the impious man, ‘You shall certainly die,’ you do not announce it to him, and you do not speak so that he may turn aside from his impious way and live, then the same impious man will die in his iniquity. But I will attribute his blood to your hand.18 Cuando yo diga al malvado: «Vas a morir», si tú no se lo adviertes, si no hablas para advertir al malvado que abandone su mala conducta, y de esa manera salve su vida, el malvado morirá por su culpa, pero a ti te pediré cuenta de su sangre.
But if you announce it to the impious man, and he is not converted from his impiety and from his impious way, then indeed he will die in his iniquity. But you will have delivered your own soul.19 Si tú, en cambio, adviertes al malvado y él no se convierte de su maldad y de su mala conducta, él morirá por su culpa, pero tú habrás salvado tu vida.
Moreover, if the just man turns aside from his justice and commits iniquity, I will place a stumbling block before him. He shall die, because you have not announced to him. He shall die in his sin, and his justices that he did shall not be remembered. Yet truly, I will attribute his blood to your hand.20 Y cuando el justo se aparte de su justicia para hacer el mal, yo lo haré tropezar, y él morirá porque tú no se lo has advertido: morirá por su propio pecado y no le serán tenidas en cuenta sus obras de justicia, pero a ti te pediré cuenta de su sangre.
But if you announce to the just man, so that the just man may not sin, and he does not sin, then he shall certainly live, because you have announced to him. And you will have delivered your own soul.”21 Si tú, en cambio, adviertes al justo para que no peque y el justo no peca, él vivirá porque ha sido advertido, y tú habrás salvado tu vida.
And the hand of the Lord was over me. And he said to me: “Rise up, and go out to the plain, and there I will speak with you.”22 La mano del Señor descendió sobre mí y él me dijo: Levántate, sal al valle y allí te hablaré.
And I rose up, and I went out to the plain. And behold, the glory of the Lord was standing there, like the glory that I saw beside the river Chebar. And I fell upon my face.23 Yo me levanté y salí al valle: la gloria del Señor estaba allí como la gloria que había visto junto al río Quebar, y caí con el rostro en tierra.
And the Spirit entered into me, and set me upon my feet. And he spoke to me, and he said to me: “Enter and enclose yourself in the midst of your house.24 Entonces un espíritu entró en mí y me hizo permanecer de pie. El me habló y me dijo: Ve a encerrarte dentro de tu casa.
And as for you, son of man, behold: they shall put chains upon you and bind you with them. And you shall not go out from their midst.25 En cuanto a ti, hijo de hombre, pondrás sobas sobre ti y te atarán con ellas, para que no puedas presentarte en medio de ellos.
And I will cause your tongue to adhere to the roof of your mouth. And you will be mute, not like a man who reproaches. For they are a provoking house.26 Yo haré que se te pegue la lengua al paladar y quedarás mudo: así dejarás de reprenderlos, porque son un pueblo rebelde.
But when I will speak to you, I will open your mouth, and you shall say to them: ‘Thus says the Lord God.’ Whoever is listening, let him hear. And whoever is quieted, let him be quieted. For they are a provoking house.”27 Pero cuando yo te hable, abriré tu boca y les dirás: «así habla el Señor: el que quiera escuchar que escuche, y el que no quiera escuchar que no escuche», porque son un pueblo rebelde.
