Sirach 3

1 The sons of wisdom are the Church of the just: and their generation is obedience and love.	1 Figliuoli di sapienza son chiesa di giusti; e' discendenti di coloro, ubbidienza e dilezione.
2 Sons, listen to the judgment of your father, and act accordingly, so that you may be saved.	2 Figliuoli (diletti), udite la volontà del padre, e fate sì che voi siate salvi.
3 For God has honored the father in the sons, and, when seeking the judgment of the mother, he has confirmed it in the children.	3 Iddio onorò il padre nelli figliuoli; e udita la esaminazione e la volontade della madre, fermò ne' figliuoli.
4 He who loves God will plead with him on behalf of sins, and will keep himself away from sin, and will be heeded in the prayers of his days.	4 Chi ama Iddio, pregherà per li peccati suoi, e ritrarrassi da quelli, e sarà esaudito nella orazione de' dì.
5 And, like one who stores up treasure, so also is he who honors his mother.	5 E sì come [chi] tesaurizza, così è colui che onora la madre sua.
6 He who honors his father will find happiness in his own children, and he will be heeded in the day of his prayer.	6 Colui che onora il padre suo, si rallegrerà ne' suoi figliuoli, e nella orazione sarà esaudito.
7 He who honors his father will live a long life. And he who obeys his father will be a refreshment to his mother.	7 Chi onora il padre suo, viverà per molto lunga vita; e chi ubbedirae il padre, refrigerae la madre.
8 He who fears the Lord honors his parents, and he will serve them as masters, for it is they who conceived him.	8 Chi teme Iddio, onora il padre e la madre, e quasi signori servirà coloro che lo generarono.
9 In word and deed, and in all things, honor your father with patience,	9 In opera e in detto e in ogni pazienza onora il padre tuo,
10 so that a blessing may come to you from him, and so that his blessing may remain to the very end.	10 acciò che sopra te vegna da Dio la benedizione, e nella fine stea ferma la sua benedizione.
11 The blessing of the father strengthens the houses of the sons; but the curse of the mother uproots even its foundation.	11 La benedizione del padre ferma le case dei figliuoli; la maledizione della madre disturba le fondamenta.
12 Do not boast in the disgrace of your father; for his shame is not your glory.	12 Non ti vanagloriare nella ingiuria (e nella villania) del padre tuo; però ch' ella non t' è gloria, ma confusione.
13 For the glory of a man is from the honor of his father, and a father without honor is a discredit to the son.	13 La gloria dell' uomo si è dello onore del padre suo, e il vituperio del figliuolo è il padre sanza onore.
14 Son, support your father in his old age, and do not grieve him in his life.	14 O figliuolo, ricevi la vecchiezza del padre tuo, e non lo contristare nella vita sua.
15 And if his mind should fail, show kindness; and do not spurn him when you are in your strength. For almsgiving to the father will never be forgotten.	15 E s' egli rinfanciullisce, passalo benignamente, e non lo spregiare nella tua forza; la limosina del padre non si dimenticherae.
16 For even in return for the sin of the mother, good will be repaid to you.	16 Per lo peccato della madre il bene ti sarà restituito.
17 And you will be built up in justice, and you will be remembered in the day of tribulation. And your sins will dissolve like ice in warm weather.	17 E in giustizia fia edificato a te, e nel die della tribulazione si ricorderae di te; e sì come nel tempo chiaro il ghiaccio si disfà, così si disfaranno li tuoi peccati.
18 What an evil form has he who forsakes his father! And whoever exasperates his mother is accursed by God.	18 Com'è di mala fama colui che abbandona il padre, e da Dio è maledetto colui che cruccia la madre!
19 Son, perform your works in meekness, and you shall be loved beyond the glory of men.	19 O figliuolo, compi l' opere tue in mansuetudine, e sarai amato sopra la fama degli uomini.
20 However great you may be, humble yourself in all things, and you will find grace in the presence of God.	20 Quanto più tu se' maggiore, più umilia te in tutte le cose; e troverai grazia dinanzi da Dio.
21 For only the power of God is great, and he is honored by the humble.	21 Però ch' è la grande potenza del solo Iddio, ed è onorato dalli umili.
22 You should not seek the things that are too high for you, and you should not examine the things that are beyond your ability. But as for the things that God has entrusted to you, consider these always. But you should not be curious in too many of his works.	22 Non cercherai cose più alte di te, e cose più forti di te non cercare; se alcune cose ti comanda Iddio, pensa quelle sempre, e in più opere non sarai sollecito.
23 For it is not necessary for you to see with your own eyes the things that are hidden.	23 Non ti sono necessarie quelle cose, le quali sono nascose, di vedere agli occhi tuoi.
24 In unnecessary matters, do not choose to be an examiner of many different things, and you should not be curious about too many of his works.	24 In cose vane e di soperchio non cercare molto, e in più opere di quelle che comandò Iddio, non sarai curioso.
25 For many things have been revealed to you, beyond the understanding of men.	25 Molte cose sopra il sentimento degli uomini sono mostrate a te.
26 Yet uncertainty in these things has also undermined many persons and has detained their minds in vanity.	26 La sospicione di quelli ne ingannò molti, e ritenne li sensi di coloro nella vanitade.
27 A hardened heart will have evil in the very end, and he who loves peril will perish in it.	27 Il cuore duro starà male nella fine; e chi ama i pericoli, in quelli perirà.
28 A heart advancing in two directions will not have success, and the depraved heart will be scandalized in this way.	28 Il (duro) cuore ch' entra per due vie, non averae i suoi intendimenti; e l'uomo che è di malvagio cuore si scandelizzerà in quelli.
29 A wicked heart will be burdened with sorrows, and a sinner will add further sins.	29 Lo reo cuore si graverà nel dolore; e il peccatore aggiugnerae nel peccato.
30 The synagogue of the arrogant will not be healed. For the stalk of sinfulness will take root in them, and it will not be understood.	30 Non è sanitade nella sinagoga de' superbi; lo spirito de' peccati si debarberae in quelli, e non fia inteso..
31 The heart of the wise is understood by wisdom, and a good ear will listen to wisdom with all its desire.	31 Il cuore de' savi s' intende in sapienza; e l'orecchio buono ode con ogni desiderio la sapienza.
32 A wise and understanding heart will abstain from sins, and will have success in works of justice.	32 Il cuore savio e intendente si ritrarrae dalli peccati; e averà felice avvenimento nelle opere della giustizia.
33 Water extinguishes a burning fire, and almsgiving withstands sins.	33 L'acqua spegne l'ardente fuoco, e la limosina resiste alli peccati.
34 And God is the watchman for him who repays a kindness. He remembers him afterwards, and in the time of his fall, he will find a firm support.	34 E Iddio sì è difenditore di colui che rende grazia; ricordossi del passato, e nel tempo della sua tribulazione troverae fermamento.
