CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINGREEK BIBLE
Job also added to this, using figures of speech, and he said:1 Και εξηκολουθησεν ο Ιωβ την παραβολην αυτου και ειπεν?
Who will grant to me that I might be as I was in former months, according to the days when God kept watch over me?2 Ω να ημην ως εις τους παρελθοντας μηνας, ως εν ταις ημεραις οτε ο Θεος με εφυλαττεν?
At that time, his lamp shined over my head, and by his light, I walked through the darkness.3 οτε ο λυχνος αυτου εφεγγεν επι της κεφαλης μου, και δια του φωτος αυτου περιεπατουν εν τω σκοτει?
I was then just as in the days of my youth, when God was privately in my tabernacle.4 καθως ημην εν ταις ημεραις της ακμης μου, οτε η ευνοια του Θεου ητο επι την σκηνην μου?
At that time, the Almighty was with me and my children surrounded me.5 οτε ο Παντοδυναμος ητο μετ' εμου, και τα παιδια μου κυκλω μου?
Then, I washed my feet with butter, and a boulder poured out rivers of oil for me.6 οτε επλυνον τα βηματα μου με βουτυρον, και ο βραχος εξεχεε δι' εμε ποταμους ελαιου?
When I went to the gate of the city, or to the main street, they prepared a chair for me.7 οτε δια της πολεως εξηρχομην εις την πυλην, ητοιμαζον την καθεδραν μου εν τη πλατεια
The youths saw me and hid themselves, and the elders, rising up, remained standing.8 Οι νεοι με εβλεπον και εκρυπτοντο? και οι γεροντες εγειρομενοι ισταντο.
The leaders stopped talking, and they placed a finder over their mouth.9 Οι αρχοντες επαυον ομιλουντες και εβαλλον χειρα επι το στομα αυτων.
The commanders subdued their voice, and their tongue adhered to their throat.10 Η φωνη των εγκριτων εκρατειτο, και η γλωσσα αυτων εκολλατο εις τον ουρανισκον αυτων.
The ear that heard me, blessed me, and the eye that saw me, gave testimony for me.11 Οτε το ωτιον ηκουε και με εμακαριζε, και ο οφθαλμος εβλεπε και εμαρτυρει υπερ εμου?
This was because I had freed the poor, who cried out, and the orphan, who had no helper.12 διοτι ηλευθερουν τον πτωχον βοωντα και τον ορφανον τον μη εχοντα βοηθον.
The blessing of him who would have been destroyed came upon me, and I consoled the heart of the widow.13 Η ευλογια του απολλυμενου ηρχετο επ' εμε? και την καρδιαν της χηρας ευφραινον.
I put on justice, and I clothed myself with my judgment, like a robe and a diadem.14 Εφορουν δικαιοσυνην και ενεδυομην την ευθυτητα μου ως επενδυτην και διαδημα.
I was an eye for the blind and a foot for the lame.15 Ημην οφθαλμος εις τον τυφλον και πους εις τον χωλον εγω.
I was the father of the poor; and if I lacked knowledge about any case, I investigated very diligently.16 Ημην πατηρ εις τους πτωχους, και την δικην την οποιαν δεν εγνωριζον εξιχνιαζον.
I crushed the jaws of the impious, and I took away prey from his teeth.17 Και συνετριβον τους κυνοδοντας του αδικου και απεσπων το θηραμα απο των οδοντων αυτου.
And I said, “I will die in my little nest, and like a palm tree, I will multiply my days.18 Τοτε ελεγον, θελω αποθανει εν τη φωλεα μου και ως την αμμον θελω πολλαπλασιασει τας ημερας μου.
My root has been spread beside the waters, and the dew will remain with my harvest.19 Η ριζα μου ητο ανοικτη προς τα υδατα, και η δροσος διενυκτερευεν επι των κλαδων μου.
My glory will always be restored, and my bow will be restored to my hand.”20 Η δοξα μου ανενεουτο εν εμοι, και το τοξον μου εκρατυνετο εν τη χειρι μου.
Those who heard me, expected vindication, and they listened closely in silence to my counsel.21 Με ηκροαζοντο προσεχοντες και εις την συμβουλην μου εσιωπων.
To my words, they dared to add nothing, and my eloquence poured over them.22 Μετα τους λογους μου δεν προσεθετον ουδεν, και η ομιλια μου εσταλαζεν επ' αυτους.
They waited for me as for rain, and they opened their mouth as for belated rains.23 Και με περιεμενον ως την βροχην? και ησαν κεχηνοτες ως δια την οψιμον βροχην.
If I had ever laughed at them, they would not have believed it, and the light of my face was not cast down towards the ground.24 Εγελων προς αυτους, και δεν επιστευον? και την φαιδροτητα του προσωπου μου δεν αφινον να πεση.
If I wished to go to them, I sat down first, and, though I sat like a king surrounded by an army, yet I was a comforter to whose who mourned.25 Εαν ηρεσκομην εις την οδον αυτων, εκαθημην πρωτος, και κατεσκηνουν ως βασιλευς εν τω στρατευματι, ως ο παρηγορων τους τεθλιμμενους.
