1 And so Arphaxad, king of the Medes, subjugated many nations under his authority, and he built a very powerful city, which he called Ecbatana.	1 - Arfaxad re de' Medi aveva soggiogato al suo impero molti popoli, e costruita una città fortissima, che chiamò Ecbatane,
2 From stones, cut and squared, he made its walls: seventy cubits in height and thirty cubits in breadth. And, in truth, he set its towers one hundred cubits in height.	2 di pietre tagliate e squadrate. Ne fece le mura alte settanta cubiti, e larghe trenta; le sue torri poi fece alte cubiti cento,
3 In fact, at its corners, each side was extended for the space of twenty feet. And he set its gates according to the height of the towers.	3 quadrate, di venti piedi per ogni lato, con le porte della medesima altezza delle torri.
4 And he glorified it, in its power, with the force of his army and with the glory of his chariots.	4 E si gloriava come un potente per la forza del suo esercito, e per la ricchezza delle sue quadrighe.
5 Thereafter, in the twelfth year of his reign, Nebuchadnezzar, king of the Assyrians, who reigned in Nineveh the great city, fought against Arphaxad and prevailed over him:	5 Ma nell'anno dodicesimo del suo regno, Nabucodonosor re degli Assiri, che regnava nella gran città di Ninive, venne a battaglia con Arfaxad, e lo sconfisse
6 in the great plain, which is called Ragae, near the Euphrates, and the Tigris, and the Hydaspes, at the encampment of Arioch, king of the Elymaeans.	6 nella gran pianura chiamata Ragau, presso l'Eufrate il Tigri e il Jadason, nella pianura d'Erioc re degli Elici.
7 Then the kingdom of Nebuchadnezzar was exalted, and his heart was elevated. And he sent to all who dwelt in Cilicia, and Damascus, and Lebanon,	7 Allora il regno di Nabucodonosor crebbe in fama, ed il suo cuore montò in superbia. E mandò messaggi a tutti gli abitanti della Cilicia, di Damasco e del Libano,
8 and to the nations that are in Carmel and Kedar, and to the inhabitants of Galilee, in the great plain of Esdrelon,	8 a' popoli che sono sul Carmelo ed in Cedar, agli abitatori della Galilea e della gran pianura di Esdrelon,
9 and to all who were in Samaria and across the river Jordan, even to Jerusalem and to all the land of Jesse, until one passes through to the borders of Ethiopia.	9 a tutti quelli che erano nella Samaria, ed al di là del fiume Giordano sino a Gerusalemme, ed a tutta la terra di Jesse sino al confini dell'Etiopia.
10 To all these, Nebuchadnezzar, king of the Assyrians, sent messengers:	10 A tutti questi mandò messaggi Nabucodonosor re degli Assiri.
11 whom they all with one mind contradicted, and they sent them back empty, and they rejected them without honor.	11 Ma tutti d'accordo gli resisterono, rimandando a mani vuote que' messaggeri, e scacciandoli disonorati.
12 Then king Nebuchadnezzar, being indignant against all that land, swore by his throne and his kingdom that he would defend himself against all those regions.	12 Allora, indignato il re Nabucodonosor contro tutti quei paesi, giurò per il trono e per il regno suo che farebbe vendetta di tutte quelle regioni.
