1 Chronicles 21

1 Now Satan rose up against Israel, and he incited David so that he would number Israel.	1 Satan se dressa contre Israël et il incita David à dénombrer les Israélites.
2 And David said to Joab and to the leaders of the people: “Go, and number Israel, from Beersheba even to Dan. And bring me the number, so that I may know it.”	2 David dit à Joab et aux chefs du peuple: "Allez compter Israël, de Bersabée à Dan, puisrevenez m'en faire connaître le chiffre."
3 And Joab responded: “May the Lord increase his people a hundred times more than they are. But, my lord the king, are they not all your servants? Why would my lord seek this thing, which may be imputed as a sin to Israel?”	3 Joab répondit: "Que Yahvé accroisse son peuple de cent fois autant! Monseigneur le roi, nesont-ils pas tous les serviteurs de Monseigneur? Pourquoi Monseigneur fait-il cette enquête? Pourquoi Israëldeviendrait-il coupable?"
4 But the word of the king prevailed instead. And Joab went away, and he traveled around, through all of Israel. And he returned to Jerusalem.	4 Cependant l'ordre du roi s'imposa à Joab. Joab partit, il parcourut tout Israël, puis rentra àJérusalem.
5 And he gave to David the number of those whom he had surveyed. And the entire number of Israel was found to be one million and one hundred thousand men who could draw the sword; but from Judah, there were four hundred and seventy thousand men of war.	5 Joab fournit à David le chiffre obtenu pour le recensement du peuple; tout Israël comptait1.100.000 hommes tirant l'épée, et Juda 470.000 hommes tirant l'épée.
6 But Levi and Benjamin he did not number. For Joab executed the orders of the king unwillingly.	6 L'ordre du roi avait tant répugné à Joab qu'il n'avait recensé ni Lévi ni Benjamin.
7 Then God was displeased with what had been ordered, and so he struck Israel.	7 Dieu vit avec déplaisir cette affaire et il frappa Israël.
8 And David said to God: “I have sinned exceedingly in doing this. I beg you take away the iniquity of your servant. For I have acted unwisely.”	8 David dit alors à Dieu: "C'est un grand péché que j'ai commis en cette affaire! Maintenant,veuille pardonner cette faute à ton serviteur, car j'ai commis une grande folie."
9 And the Lord spoke to Gad, the seer of David, saying:	9 Yahvé dit alors à Gad, le voyant de David:
10 “Go, and speak to David, and tell him: Thus says the Lord: I give to you the option of three things. Choose the one that you will want, and I will do it to you.”	10 "Va dire à David: Ainsi parle Yahvé. Je te propose trois choses: choisis-en une et jel'exécuterai pour toi."
11 And when Gad had gone to David, he said to him: “Thus says the Lord: Choose what you will want:	11 Donc Gad se rendit chez David et lui dit: "Ainsi parle Yahvé. Il te faut accepter
12 Either three years of famine, or three months for you to flee from your enemies, unable to escape from their sword, or three days for the sword of the Lord and a pestilence to turn within the land, with the Angel of the Lord killing in every part of Israel. Now therefore, see what I should respond to him who sent me.”	12 soit trois années de famine, soit un désastre de trois mois devant tes ennemis, l'épée de tesadversaires dans les reins, soit l'épée de Yahvé et trois jours de peste dans le pays, l'ange de Yahvé ravageanttout le territoire d'Israël! Vois maintenant ce que je dois répondre à celui qui m'envoie."
13 And David said to Gad: “There are difficulties pressing upon me from every side. But it is better for me to fall into the hands of the Lord, for his mercies are many, than into the hands of men.”	13 David répondit à Gad: "Je suis dans une grande anxiété... Ah! que je tombe entre les mainsde Yahvé, car sa miséricorde est immense, mais que je ne tombe pas entre les mains des hommes!"
14 Therefore, the Lord sent a pestilence upon Israel. And there fell from Israel seventy thousand men.	14 Yahvé envoya donc la peste en Israël et, parmi les Israélites, 70.000 hommes tombèrent.
15 Also, he sent an Angel to Jerusalem, so that he might strike it. And while he was striking, the Lord saw and took pity over the magnitude of the harm. And he commanded the Angel who was striking: “It is enough. Now let your hand cease.” And the Angel of the Lord was standing beside the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.	15 Puis Dieu envoya l'ange vers Jérusalem pour l'exterminer; mais au moment de l'exterminer,Yahvé regarda et se repentit de ce mal; et il dit à l'ange exterminateur: "Assez! Retire ta main." L'ange de Yahvése tenait alors près de l'aire d'Ornân le Jébuséen.
16 And David, lifting up his eyes, saw the Angel of the Lord, standing between heaven and earth with a drawn sword in his hand, turned toward Jerusalem. And both he and those greater by birth, being clothed in haircloth, fell prone upon the ground.	16 Levant les yeux, David vit l'ange de Yahvé qui se tenait entre terre et ciel, l'épée dégainée àla main, tendue vers Jérusalem. Revêtus de sacs, David et les anciens tombèrent alors face contre terre,
17 And David said to God: “Am I not the one who ordered that the people be numbered? It is I who sinned; it is I who did evil. This flock, what does it deserve? O Lord my God, I beg you to let your hand be turned against me and against the house of my father. But let not your people be struck down.”	17 et David dit à Dieu: "N'est-ce pas moi qui ai ordonné de recenser le peuple? N'est-ce pasmoi qui ai péché et qui ai commis le mal? Mais ceux-là, c'est le troupeau, qu'ont-ils fait? Yahvé, mon Dieu, queta main s'appesantisse donc sur moi et sur ma famille, mais que ton peuple échappe au fléau!"
18 Then the Angel of the Lord instructed Gad to tell David that he should ascend and build an altar to the Lord God on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.	18 L'ange de Yahvé dit alors à Gad: "Que David monte et élève un autel à Yahvé sur l'aired'Ornân le Jébuséen."
19 Therefore, David ascended, in accord with the word of Gad, which he had spoken to him in the name of the Lord.	19 David monta donc selon la parole que Gad lui avait dite au nom de Yahvé.
20 Now when Ornan had looked up and seen the Angel, he and his four sons hid themselves. For at that time, he was threshing wheat upon the floor.	20 Or, en se retournant, Ornân avait vu l'ange et il se cachait avec ses quatre fils. Ornân était entrain de battre le froment
21 Then, as David was approaching Ornan, Ornan saw him, and he went out from the threshing floor to meet him. And he reverenced him prone on the ground.	21 lorsque David se rendit auprès de lui. Ornân regarda, vit David, sortit de l'aire, et seprosterna devant David, la face contre terre.
22 And David said to him: “Give this place of your threshing floor to me, so that I may build an altar to the Lord upon it. And you shall accept from me as much money as it is worth, so that the plague may cease from the people.”	22 David dit alors à Ornân: "Cède-moi l'emplacement de cette aire afin que j'y construise unautel pour Yahvé. Cède-le-moi pour sa pleine valeur en argent. Ainsi le fléau s'écartera du peuple."
23 But Ornan said to David: “Take it, and may my lord the king do whatever pleases him. Moreover, I give the oxen also as a holocaust, and the plow for wood, and the wheat for a sacrifice. I will offer all freely.”	23 Ornân dit alors à David: "Prends, et que Monseigneur le roi fasse ce qui lui semble bon!Vois: je donne les boeufs pour les holocaustes, le traîneau pour le bois et le grain pour l'oblation. Je donne letout."
24 And king David said to him: “By no means shall it be so. Instead, I will give money to you, as much as it is worth. For I must not take it from you, and thereby offer to the Lord holocausts that cost nothing.”	24 Le roi David répondit à Ornân: "Non pas! je veux l'acheter pour sa pleine valeur en argent;car je ne veux pas prendre pour Yahvé ce qui t'appartient et offrir ainsi des holocaustes qui ne me coûtent rien."
25 Therefore, David gave Ornan, for the place, the very just weight of six hundred shekels of gold.	25 David donna à Ornân pour ce lieu le poids de 600 sicles d'or.
26 And he built an altar to the Lord there. And he offered holocausts and peace offerings, and he called upon the Lord. And he heeded him by sending fire from heaven upon the altar of the holocaust.	26 David construisit là un autel pour Yahvé, et il offrit des holocaustes et des sacrifices decommunion. Il invoqua Yahvé; Yahvé lui répondit en faisant tomber du ciel le feu sur l'autel des holocaustes
27 And the Lord instructed the Angel, and he turned his sword back into its sheath.	27 et il ordonna à l'ange de remettre l'épée au fourreau.
28 Then, seeing that the Lord had heeded him at the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, David immediately immolated victims there.	28 A cette époque, voyant que Yahvé lui avait répondu sur l'aire d'Ornân le Jébuséen, David yfit un sacrifice.
29 But the tabernacle of the Lord, which Moses had made in the desert, and the altar of holocausts, were at that time on the high place of Gibeon.	29 La Demeure que Moïse avait faite dans le désert et l'autel des holocaustes se trouvaient àcette époque sur le haut lieu de Gabaôn,
30 And David was unable to go to the altar, so that he might pray to God there. For he had been struck with an exceedingly great fear, seeing the sword of the Angel of the Lord.	30 mais David n'avait pu y aller devant Dieu pour s'adresser à lui, tant l'épée de l'ange deYahvé lui avait fait peur.
