1 Then Ahithophel said to Absalom: “I will choose for myself twelve thousand men, and rising up, I will pursue David this night.	1 Disse Achitofel ad Assalom: io mi eleggerò duodeci milia uomini; e questa notte, levandomi, anderò dopo David.
2 And rushing against him, for he is weary and has weakened hands, I will strike him. And when all the people who are with him will have fled, I will strike down the king in isolation.	2 E però ch' egli è lasso, sùbito lo assalirò, e sciolte le mani lo percuoterò; e fuggendo tutto il popolo da lui, io ucciderò lui solo, così abbandonato.
3 And I will lead back the entire people, returning in the manner of one man. For you are seeking only one man. And all the people shall be in peace.”	3 E rimenerò tutto il popolo, come si suole menare uno uomo; e tutto il popolo rimanerà in pace.
4 And this word pleased Absalom and all those greater by birth of Israel.	4 E piacque la sua parola ad Assalom e a tutti i maggiori d' Israel.
5 But Absalom said, “Summon Hushai the Archite, and let us hear what he also may say.”	5 E disse Assalom: chiamate Cusai Arachito, e audiamo quello ch' egli dica esso.
6 And when Hushai had gone to Absalom, Absalom said to him: “Ahithophel has spoken a word in this manner. Should we do it or not? What counsel do you give?”	6 E venuto Cusai ad Assalom, disse a lui: così fatto consiglio ci ha dato Achitofel; tu che ne di': dobbianlo fare o no? che consiglio ci dài?
7 And Hushai said to Absalom, “The counsel that Ahithophel has given at this time is not good.”	7 E Cusai disse ad Assalom: non è buono consiglio quello che ha dato Achitofel questa volta.
8 And again Hushai declared, “You know your father, and the men who are with him, to be very strong and bitter in soul, comparable to a bear raging in the forest when her young have been taken away. Moreover, your father is a man of war, and so he will not live among the people.	8 E aggiunse Cusai: tu conosci il tuo padre e quelli uomini che sono con esso lui, i quali sono fortissimi e d' animo amaro, come l' orsa adirata nel deserto quando gli sono tolti i figliuoli; il padre tuo sì è uomo battagliere, e non istarà col popolo.
9 Perhaps now he hides in pits, or in another place, wherever he wills. And if by chance, in the beginning, anyone may fall, whoever hears about it, no matter what he has heard, will say, ‘There is a slaughter among the people who were following Absalom.’	9 E forse che adesso è egli nascoso in una fossa, o in qualunque luogo si vuole; e se pur morrà uno de' nostri così nel principio, e' si dirà: grande piaga è fatta nel popolo il quale seguitava Assalom.
10 And even the very strong, whose heart is like the heart of a lion, will be weakened out of fear. For all the people of Israel know your father to be a valiant man, and that all who are with him are robust.	10 E il cuore di colui, che ora è quasi leone, isbigottirà; tutto Israel sa che il tuo padre è forte, e quelli che sono con esso lui essere robusti.
11 But this seems to me to be the right counsel: Let all of Israel be gathered to you, from Dan to Beersheba, like the sand of the sea which is innumerable. And you will be in their midst.	11 Ma questo mi pare diritto consiglio: fa congregare a te tutto Israel, da Dan insino a Bersebee, quasi come la terra del mare; e tu sarai in mezzo di loro.
12 And we shall rush against him in whatever place he will have been found. And we shall cover him, as the dew usually falls upon the ground. And we shall not leave behind even one of the men who are with him.	12 E saremogli sùbito sopra in qualunque luogo sarà; e copriremlo, come la terra suole fare la rugiada; e degli uomini che sono anco con esso lui, non lasceremo pure uno.
13 And if he will enter into any city, all of Israel shall encircle that city with ropes. And we will pull it into the torrent, so that there may not be found even one small stone from it.”	13 E s' egli è entrato in alcuna città, tutto Israel la circonderà pur con funi; e trarremola nel fiume, sì che non si trovi di lei pure una piastra d' uscio.
14 And Absalom, with all the men of Israel, said: “The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel.” So, by an act of the Lord, the useful counsel of Ahithophel was defeated, in order that the Lord might lead evil over Absalom.	14 E disse Assalom, e tutti gli uomini d' Israel: il consiglio di Cusai sì è migliore che quello di Achitofel. E secondo la volontà di Dio, il consiglio di Achitofel utile fue dissipato, (apparendo buono in cospetto di Assalom il consiglio di Cusai) per ducere Iddio male sopra Assalom.
15 And Hushai said to the priests, Zadok and Abiathar: “Ahithophel gave counsel to Absalom and to the elders of Israel in this and that manner. And I gave counsel in such and such a manner.	15 E Cusai disse a Sadoc e Abiatar sacerdoti: in cotale e in cotale modo ha dato consiglio Achitofel ad Assalom e agli antichi d'Israel, e io ho dato tale e tale consiglio.
16 Now therefore, send quickly, and report to David, saying: ‘You shall not stay this night in the plains of the desert. Instead, without delay, go across. Otherwise the king may be engulfed, and all the people who are with him.’ ”	16 Ora mandate tosto a David, e significategli dicendo: non istare ista notte ne' campestri del deserto, ma senza dimoranza passa via, acciò che non sia tranghiottito il re, e tutti quelli che sono con esso lui.
17 But Jonathan and Ahimaaz remained beside the Fountain of Rogel. And a handmaid went away and reported it to them. And they set out, so that they might carry the report to king David. For they could not be seen, nor enter into the city.	17 E Ionata e Achimaas stavano presso alla fonte di Rogel; e andò una fante e significogliele; e loro se n'andarono per significarlo a David, però che non poteano vedere nè entrare nella città.
18 But a certain young man saw them, and he revealed it to Absalom. Yet truly, they traveled quickly and entered into the house of a certain man in Bahurim, who had a well in his court, and they descended into it.	18 E uno servo gli vidde, e significollo ad Assalom; e loro molto ratto entrarono in casa (di Baurim, cioè) d' uno di Baurim, il quale avea pozzo in casa sua, ed entrarono in esso.
19 Then a woman took and spread a covering over the mouth of the well, as if drying hulled barley. And so the matter was hidden.	19 E una femina tolse uno panno, e isparselo sopra il pozzo, sì quasi come seccasse orzo mondo; e in questo modo la cosa fue occulta.
20 And when the servants of Absalom had entered into the house, they said to the woman, “Where is Ahimaaz and Jonathan?” And the woman responded to them, “They passed through hurriedly, after they had taken a little water.” But those who were seeking them, when they had not found them, returned to Jerusalem.	20 E venuta la famiglia di Assalom in casa, dissero a quella femina: dove sono Achimaas e Gionata? E la femina respuose: sono stati, e passarono ratti, assaggiato uno poco d'acqua. E quelli che cercavano, non trovandolo, ritornorono in Ierusalem.
21 And when they had gone, they ascended from the well. And traveling, they reported to king David, and they said: “Rise up, and go across the river quickly. For Ahithophel has given a counsel of this kind against you.”	21 E partiti loro, quelli ch' erano nel pozzo uscirono fuori, e annunziarono a David, e dissero: istate suso, e passate mo' ratti il fiume; però che cotale consiglio ha dato contro a voi Achitofel.
22 Therefore, David rose up, and all the people who were with him, and they crossed over the Jordan, until first light. And not even one of them was left behind who had not crossed over the river.	22 E levossi David, e tutto il popolo ch' era con lui, e passò il Giordano, tanto che fece il dì (prima che si sapesse il fatto); e solo uno non rimase, il quale non passasse il fiume.
23 Then Ahithophel, seeing that his counsel had not been done, saddled his donkey, and he rose up and went away to his own house and to his own city. And putting his house in order, he killed himself by hanging. And he was buried in the sepulcher of his father.	23 E Achitofel, veggendo che non era fatto il consiglio suo, levossi e sellò l'asino suo, e andossene alla sua casa nella sua citta; e ordinato ch' ebbe la casa sua, impiccossi, e così morìo; e fue sepolto nel sepolcro del suo padre.
24 Then David went to the encampment, and Absalom crossed over the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.	24 E David se ne venne al campo, e Assalom passò il Giordano, ello e tutti gli uomini d'Israel con esso lui.
25 Truly, Absalom appointed Amasa in place of Joab over the army. Now Amasa was the son of a man who was called Ithra of Jezrael, who entered to Abigail, the daughter of Nahash, the sister of Zeruiah, who was the mother of Joab.	25 E fece Assalom, in iscambio di Ioab, sopra lo esercito Amasa, figliuolo d'uno uomo il quale avea nome letra di Iesraele, il quale entrò ad Abigail figliuola di Naas, suora di Sarvia, madre di Ioab.
26 And Israel made camp with Absalom in the land of Gilead.	26 E puose campo Israel con esso Assalom nella terra di Galaad.
27 And when David had arrived at the encampment, Shobi, the son of Nahash, from Rabbah, of the sons of Ammon, and Machir, the son of Ammiel of Lodebar, and Barzillai, the Gileadite of Rogelim,	27 Ed essendo David venuto a campo, Sobi figliuolo di Naas di Rabbat de' figliuoli di Ammon, e Machir figliuolo di Ammiel di Lodabar, e Berzellai di Galaad di Rogelim,
28 brought to him bedding, and tapestries, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and meal, and cooked grain, and beans, and lentils, and fried chick peas,	28 gli diedero letti e tappeti e vasi di terra, grano, orzo e farina, polenta, fave e lenti, e ceci fritti,
29 and honey, and butter, sheep and fattened calves. And they gave these to David and to the people who were with him to eat. For they suspected that the people were faint with hunger and thirst in the desert.	29 miele e butirro, pecore e grassi vitelli; a David, e al popolo ch' era con lui, diedero a mangiare; però che pensarono che il popolo fosse faticato di fame e di sete nel deserto.
