Genesis 48

1 After these things were done, it was reported to Joseph that his father was sick. And taking his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim, he went directly to him.	1 Il arriva, après ces événements, qu'on dit à Joseph: "Voici que ton père est malade!" et il emmenaavec lui ses deux fils, Manassé et Ephraïm.
2 And it was told to the old man, “Behold, your son Joseph is coming to you.” And being strengthened, he sat up in bed.	2 Lorsqu'on eut annoncé à Jacob: "Voici ton fils Joseph qui est venu auprès de toi", Israël rassemblases forces et se mit assis sur le lit.
3 And when he had entered to him, he said: “Almighty God appeared to me at Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, and he blessed me.	3 Puis Jacob dit à Joseph: "El Shaddaï m'est apparu à Luz, au pays de Canaan, il m'a béni
4 And he said: ‘I will increase and multiply you, and I will make you influential among the people. And I will give this land to you, and to your offspring after you, as an everlasting possession.’	4 et m'a dit: Je te rendrai fécond et je te multiplierai, je te ferai devenir une assemblée de peuples etje donnerai ce pays en possession perpétuelle à tes descendants après toi.
5 Therefore, your two sons, who were born to you in the land of Egypt before I came here to you, will be mine. Ephraim and Manasseh will be treated by me just like Reuben and Simeon.	5 Maintenant, les deux fils qui te sont nés au pays d'Egypte avant que je ne vienne auprès de toi enEgypte, ils seront miens! Ephraïm et Manassé seront à moi au même titre que Ruben et Siméon.
6 But the remainder, whom you will conceive after them, will be yours, and they will be called by the name of their brothers among their possessions.	6 Quant aux enfants que tu as engendrés après eux, ils seront tiens; ils porteront le nom de leursfrères pour l'héritage.
7 As for me, when I came from Mesopotamia, Rachel died in the land of Canaan on the very journey, and it was springtime. And I entered Ephrath and buried her next to the way of Ephrath, which by another name is called Bethlehem.”	7 Lorsque je revenais de Paddân, ta mère Rachel est morte, pour mon malheur, au pays de Canaan,en route, encore un bout de chemin avant d'arriver à Ephrata, et je l'ai enterrée là, sur le chemin d'Ephrata -- c'estBethléem."
8 Then, seeing his sons, he said to him: “Who are these?”	8 Israël vit les deux fils de Joseph et demanda: "Qui sont ceux-là" --
9 He responded, “They are my sons, whom God gave to me as a gift in this place.” “Bring them to me,” he said, “so that I may bless them.”	9 "Ce sont les fils que Dieu m'a donnés ici", répondit Joseph à son père, et celui-ci reprit: "Amène-les-moi, que je les bénisse."
10 For Israel’s eyes were clouded by reason of his great age, and he was unable to see clearly. And when they were placed up against him, he kissed and embraced them.	10 Or les yeux d'Israël étaient usés par la vieillesse, il n'y voyait plus, et Joseph les fit approcher delui, qui les embrassa et les serra dans ses bras.
11 And he said to his son: “I have not been cheated out of seeing you. Moreover, God has shown me your offspring.”	11 Et Israël dit à Joseph: "Je ne pensais pas revoir ton visage et voici que Dieu m'a fait voir même tesdescendants!"
12 And when Joseph had taken them from his father’s lap, he reverenced prone on the ground.	12 Alors Joseph les retira de son giron et se prosterna, la face contre terre.
13 And he placed Ephraim on his right, that is, towards the left hand of Israel. Yet truly Manasseh was on his left, namely, towards his father’s right hand. And he placed them both up against him.	13 Joseph les prit tous deux, Ephraïm de sa main droite pour qu'il soit à la gauche d'Israël, Manasséde sa main gauche pour qu'il soit à la droite d'Israël, et il les fit approcher de celui-ci.
14 And he, extending his right hand, placed it over the head of Ephraim, the younger brother, but the left hand was on the head of Manasseh, who was the elder, so that his hands were crossed.	14 Mais Israël étendit sa main droite et la posa sur la tête d'Ephraïm, qui était le cadet, et sa maingauche sur la tête de Manassé, en croisant ses mains -- en effet Manassé était l'aîné.
15 And Jacob blessed the sons of Joseph, and he said: “God, in whose sight my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, God who pastured me from my youth until the present day,	15 Il bénit ainsi Joseph: "Que le Dieu devant qui ont marché mes pères Abraham et Isaac, que leDieu qui fut mon pasteur depuis que je vis jusqu'à maintenant,
16 the Angel, who rescues me from all evils: bless these boys. And let my name be invoked over them, and also the names of my fathers, Abraham and Isaac. And may they increase into a multitude across the earth.”	16 que l'Ange qui m'a sauvé de tout mal bénisse ces enfants, que survivent en eux mon nom et lenom de mes ancêtres, Abraham et Isaac, qu'ils croissent et multiplient sur la terre!"
17 But Joseph, seeing that his father had placed his right hand over the head of Ephraim, took it gravely. And grasping his father’s hand, he tried to lift it from Ephraim’s head and transfer it onto the head of Manasseh.	17 Cependant Joseph vit que son père mettait sa main droite sur la tête d'Ephraïm et cela lui déplut. Ilsaisit la main de son père pour la détourner de la tête d'Ephraïm sur la tête de Manassé,
18 And he said to his father: “It should not have come to pass this way, father. For this one is the firstborn. Place your right hand over his head.”	18 et Joseph dit à son père: "Pas comme cela, père, car c'est celui-ci l'aîné: mets ta main droite sur satête."
19 But refusing, he said: “I know, my son, I know. And this one, indeed, will be among the people and will be multiplied. But his younger brother will be greater than he. And his offspring will increase among the nations.”	19 Mais son père refusa et dit: "Je sais, mon fils, je sais: lui aussi deviendra un peuple, lui aussi seragrand. Pourtant, son cadet sera plus grand que lui, sa descendance deviendra une multitude de nations."
20 And he blessed them at that time, saying: “In you, Israel will be blessed, and it will be said: ‘May God treat you like Ephraim, and like Manasseh.’ ” And he established Ephraim before Manasseh.	20 En ce jour-là, il les bénit ainsi: "Soyez en bénédiction dans Israël et qu'on dise: Que Dieu te rendesemblable à Ephraïm et à Manassé!" mettant ainsi Ephraïm avant Manassé.
21 And he said to his son Joseph: “See, I am dying, and God will be with you, and he will lead you back to the land of your fathers.	21 Puis Israël dit à Joseph: "Voici que je vais mourir, mais Dieu sera avec vous et vous ramènera aupays de vos pères.
22 I give you one part beyond that of your brothers, which I took from the hand of the Amorite with my sword and my bow.”	22 Pour moi, je te donne un Sichem de plus qu'à tes frères, ce que j'ai conquis sur les Amorites parmon épée et par mon arc."
