1 Et factum est verbum Do mini ad me dicens: | 1 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as follows, |
2 “ Fili ho minis, prophetaet dic: Haec dicit Dominus Deus: Ululate, vae diei, | 2 'Son of man, prophesy and say, "The Lord Yahweh says this: Howl: Disaster day! |
3 quia iuxta est dies, et appropinquat dies Domini, dies nubis; tempus gentium erit. | 3 For the day is near, the day of Yahweh is near; it wil be a day dark with cloud, a time of doom for thenations. |
4 Et veniet gladius in Aegyptum, et erit pavor in Chus, cum ceciderint vulnerati in Aegypto, et ablatae fuerint opes illius, et destructa fundamenta eius. | 4 "The sword wil come on Egypt, and anguish on the country of Cush when the slaughtered fal inEgypt, when her riches are carried away and her foundations are destroyed. |
5 Chus et Phut et Lud et omne vulgus promiscuum et Chub et filii terrae foederis cum eis gladio cadent. | 5 Cush, Put and Lud, all Arabia, Cub and the children of the country of the covenant will fal by thesword with them. |
6 Haec dicit Dominus Deus: Et corruent fulcientes Aegyptum, et destruetur superbia potentiae eius; a Magdolo usque ad Syenen gladio cadent in ea, ait Dominus Deus. | 6 "Yahweh says this: "The supports of Egypt wil fall; the pride of her strength wil crumble; they will fal by the sword from Migdol to Syene -- declares the Lord Yahweh. |
7 Et dissipabuntur in medio terrarum desolatarum, et urbes eius in mediocivitatum desertarum erunt; | 7 "They will be the most desolate of desolate countries, and its cities the most ruined of cities. |
8 et scient quia ego Dominus, cum dedero ignem inAegyptum, et attriti fuerint omnes auxiliatores eius. | 8 And they wil know that I am Yahweh when I set fire to Egypt and al its supports are shattered. |
9 In die illa egredientur nuntii a facie mea in navibus ad conterendamconfidentiam Chus, et erit pavor in eis in die Aegypti, quia veniet. | 9 "That day, I shal send messengers by ship to terrify the carefree Cushites, and anguish wil overtakethem on the day of Egypt -- it is coming now! |
10 Haec dicit Dominus Deus: Cessare faciam pompam Aegypti in manuNabuchodonosor, regis Babylonis. | 10 The Lord Yahweh says this: I shal destroy the huge population of Egypt at the hand ofNebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. |
11 Ipse et populus eius cum eo violentissimigentium adducentur ad disperdendam terram; et evaginabunt gladios suos superAegyptum et implebunt terram interfectis. | 11 He and his people, the most barbarous of nations, wil be brought to ravage the country. They wildraw the sword against Egypt and fil the country with corpses. |
12 Et faciam alveos fluminum aridos ettradam terram in manu pessimorum et dissipabo terram et plenitudinem eius inmanu alienorum. Ego Dominus locutus sum. | 12 I shal dry up the courses of the Nile and sel the country to the wicked. I shal lay the whole countrywaste and everything in it, at the hand of foreigners. I, Yahweh, have spoken. |
13 Haec dicit Dominus Deus: Et disperdam simulacra et cessare faciam idola de Memphi, et dux de terra Aegypti non erit amplius, et dabo terrorem in terra Aegypti. | 13 "The Lord Yahweh says this: I shall destroy the foul idols and take the false gods away from Noph.Egypt wil be left without a ruler. I shall spread fear through Egypt. |
14 Et disperdam terram Phatures et dabo ignem in Tani et faciam iudicia in No. | 14 I shal lay Pathros waste, set Zoan on fire, inflict my punishments on No. |
15 Et effundam indignationem meam super Sin, robur Aegypti, et interficiammultitudinem No. | 15 I shal vent my fury on Sin, the bastion of Egypt; I shall wipe out the throngs of No. |
16 Et dabo ignem in Aegypto; quasi parturiens dolebit Sin, etin No scissura erit, et contra Memphin hostes plena die. | 16 I shal set fire to Egypt; Sin will be seized with convulsions; a breach wil be opened at No and thewaters flood out. |
17 Iuvenes Heliopoleoset Bubasti gladio cadent, et ipsae captivae ducentur. | 17 The young men of On and Pi-Beseth wil fal by the sword and the cities themselves go into captivity. |
18 Et in Taphnis nigrescetdies, cum contrivero ibi sceptra Aegypti, et defecerit in ea superbia potentiaeeius; ipsam nubes operiet, filiae autem eius in captivitatem ducentur. | 18 At Tahpanhes day will turn to darkness when I shatter the sceptres of Egypt there, when the pride ofher strength ceases. A cloud will cover Egypt itself, and its daughters will go into captivity. |
19 Etfaciam iudicia in Aegypto, et scient quia ego Dominus ”. | 19 Such wil be the punishments I inflict on Egypt. And they wil know that I am Yahweh." ' |
20 Et factum est in undecimo anno, in primo, in septima mensis, factum estverbum Domini ad me dicens: | 20 In the eleventh year, on the seventh day of the first month, the word of Yahweh was addressed to meas fol ows, |
21 “ Fili hominis, brachium pharaonis, regisAegypti, confregi, et ecce non est obvolutum, ut restitueretur ei sanitas, utligaretur pannis et farciretur linteolis, ut recepto robore posset teneregladium. | 21 'Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt; you can see that no one has dressedhis wound by applying remedies to it, by bandaging it and by dressing it, to make it strong enough to wield thesword. |
22 Propterea haec dicit Dominus Deus: Ecce ego ad pharaonem, regemAegypti, et comminuam brachium eius forte sed confractum et deiciam gladium demanu eius | 22 This being so, the Lord Yahweh says this, "Look, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt; I shal breakhis arms, the sound one and the broken one, and make the sword drop from his hand. |
23 et dispergam Aegyptum in gentibus et ventilabo eos in terris. | 23 I shal scatter Egypt among the nations and disperse it among the countries. |
24 Etconfortabo brachia regis Babylonis daboque gladium meum in manu eius; etconfringam brachia pharaonis, et gemet gemitibus sicut transfixus coram facieeius. | 24 I shal strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and put my sword in his hand. I shal breakPharaoh's arms and, confronted with his enemy, he wil groan like a dying man. |
25 Et confortabo brachia regis Babylonis, et brachia pharaonis concident;et scient quia ego Dominus, cum dedero gladium meum in manu regis Babylonis, etextenderit eum super terram Aegypti. | 25 I shal strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and the arms of Pharaoh wil fall. And they wilknow that I am Yahweh, when I put my sword into the hands of the king of Babylon and he wields it againstEgypt. |
26 Et dispergam Aegyptum in nationes etventilabo eos in terras, et scient quia ego Dominus ”. | 26 I shal scatter Egypt among the nations and disperse it among the countries; and they wil know that Iam Yahweh." ' |
