1 Samuel 10

1 Samuel took a phial of oil and poured it on Saul's head; he then kissed him and said, 'Has not Yahwehanointed you as leader of his people Israel? You are the man who is to govern Yahweh's people and save themfrom the power of the enemies surrounding them. The sign for you that Yahweh has anointed you as prince ofhis heritage is this:	1 E Samuel tolse uno vasello d' olio, e versoglielo sopra il capo, e baciollo, e disse: ecco che il Signore t' hae unto principe sopra la sua eredità, e tu libererai il popolo [suo] delle mani de' suoi nemici che sono d' intorno. E che il Signore t' abbia unto principe, questo ti sarà segnale.
2 after leaving me today, you will meet two men near the tomb of Rachel, on the frontier of Benjamin . . .and they wil say to you, "The donkeys which you went looking for have been found, and your father has lostinterest in the matter of the donkeys and is worrying about you and wondering, What am I to do about my son?"	2 Quando tu sarai partito oggi da me, troverai due uomini presso al sepolcro di Rachel ne' confini di Beniamin, nel mezzo dì (facendo due grandi cave), e dirannoti: le asine, le quali voi eravate andati cercando, sono ritrovate; e il tuo padre, interlasciate le asine, è sollecito di voi, e dice: che farò io del mio figliuolo?
3 Going on from there, you wil come to the Oak of Tabor, where you will meet three men going up toGod at Bethel; one wil be carrying three kids, one three loaves of bread and the third a skin of wine.	3 E quando tu sarai partito indi, e passerai più oltre, e sarai venuto alla quercia di Tabor, troverai tre uomini, li quali ascenderanno a Dio in Betel; l'uno porterà tre capretti, l'altro tre tortelli di pane, e l'altro una mezzina di vino.
4 They will greet you and give you two loaves of bread which you must accept from them.	4 E quando t' avranno salutato, ti daranno due pani, e torraili delle loro mani.
5 After this, you wil come to Gibeah of God (where the Philistine garrison is) and, when you are justoutside the town, you wil meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place, headed by lyre,tambourine, pipe and harp; they wil be in a state of ecstasy.	5 Dopo questo tu verrai nel colle del Signore, dove che è la mansione de' Filistei: e quando tu sarai entrato nella città, tu ti riscontrerai in uno gregge di profeti li quali discenderanno dal monte, e dinanzi da loro sarà uno salterio e uno timpano, e tibia e citara, e loro profetando.
6 The spirit of Yahweh will then seize on you, and you wil go into ecstasy with them, and be changed into another man.	6 E lo spirito di Dio verrà in te, e profeterai con esso loro, e sarai mutato in uno altro uomo.
7 When these signs have occurred, act as occasion serves, for God is with you.	7 E quando tutti questi segni ti saranno venuti, fa ciò che la tua mano troverà, però che il Signore sì è teco.
8 You wil then go down, ahead of me, to Gilgal, and I shall join you there to make burnt offerings and tooffer communion sacrifices. You must wait seven days for me to come to you, and I shal then reveal to you whatyou must do.'	8 E discenderai dinanzi a me in Galgala, e io discenderò a te, acciò che offeri offerta e vittime pacifiche; e sette dì aspetterai, tanto ch' io vegna a te, e dimostriti quello che tu facci.
9 As soon as he had turned his back to leave Samuel, God changed his heart. And al these signsoccurred that very day . . .	9 E volgendo egli le reni per partirsi da Samuel, Iddio gli mutò uno altro cuore; e tutti questi segnali vennero in quel dì.
10 From there, they came to Gibeah: and there was a group of prophets coming to meet him! The spiritof God seized on him and he fell into ecstasy with them.	10 E vennero al predetto colle, ed ecco una compagnia di profeti incontro a lui; e lo Spirito di Dio venne in lui, e profetò in mezzo di loro.
11 Seeing him prophesying with the prophets, al the people who had known him previously said to oneanother, 'What has come over the son of Kish? Is Saul one of the prophets too?'	11 E veggendolo tutti quelli che l'aveano conosciuto ieri e l'altro dì, ch' era co' profeti e profetava, diceano l'uno all' altro: che cosa è questa, ch' è intervenuta al figliuolo di Cis? or non è egli Saul tra profeti?
12 And one of the local people retorted, 'But who is their father?' Hence the origin of the proverb: Is Saulone of the prophets too?	12 E rispuose l'altro all' altro, dicendo: e chi è il padre suo? E però tornò in proverbio: or non è egli Saul tra i profeti?
13 When he came out of his ecstasy, he went into Gibeah.	13 E restò di profetare, e andò nel monte.
14 Saul's uncle asked him and his servant, 'Where have you been?' 'Looking for the donkeys,' hereplied, 'and when we could not find them anywhere, we went to Samuel.'	14 E il fratello del padre suo disse a lui e al suo servo: dove andaste voi? E loro rispuosono: a cercare delle asine, le quali non le trovando, andammo a Samuel.
15 Saul's uncle said, 'Tel me please what Samuel said to you.'	15 E disse loro il zio suo: dichiara a me quello che ti ha detto Samuel.
16 Saul said to his uncle, 'He merely told us that the donkeys were already found,' but did not mentionanything that Samuel had said about the kingship.	16 E disse Saul a suo zio: Samuel ci manifestò che le asine erano ritrovate. Ma delle parole del regno non gli manifestò quello che Samuel gli avea detto.
17 Samuel summoned the people to Yahweh at Mizpah	17 E Samuel chiamò il popolo a Dio in Masfa.
18 and said to the Israelites, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "I brought Israel out of Egypt anddelivered you from the power of the Egyptians and of al the kingdoms that were oppressing you."	18 E disse ai figliuoli d' Israel: questo dice Iddio d'Israel: io trassi Israel d' Egitto, e libera'vi delle mani degli Egizii, e delle mani di tutti i re che affligeano voi.
19 But today you have rejected your God, him who saves you from al your difficulties and troubles; andyou have said, "No, you must set a king over us." Very well, take your positions before Yahweh, tribe by tribeand clan by clan.'	19 E oggi avete gettato via il vostro Signore Iddio, il quale solo vi salvò da tutti i mali e tribulazioni vostre; e diceste: non sarà così, anzi ordina sopra di noi re. Ora istate dinanzi a Dio (vostro) secondo le vostre tribù e le vostre famiglie.
20 Samuel then made al the tribes of Israel come forward, and the lot indicated the tribe of Benjamin.	20 E mise Samuel le sorti sopra tutte le tribù d'Israel; e caddero le sorti sopra la tribù di Beniamin.
21 He then made the tribe of Benjamin come forward clan by clan, and the lot indicated the clan ofMatri; he then made the clan of Matri come forward one by one, and the lot indicated Saul son of Kish, but whenthey looked for him, he was not to be found.	21 E anche mise le sorti sopra la tribù di Beniamin, e sopra tutte le cognazioni; e caddero le sorti sopra la cognazione di Metri, e pervennero insino a Saul figliuolo di Cis. Onde cercando per lui, e' non fu trovato.
22 Again they consulted Yahweh, 'Has the man come here?' Yahweh replied, 'There he is, hidingamong the baggage.'	22 E dopo questo domandarono a Dio, se lui dovesse venire là. E Iddio respuose: egli è nascoso in casa.
23 So they ran and fetched him out and, as he stood among the people, he was head and shoulderstal er than any of them.	23 E corsero, e tolserlo indi; e istette nel mezzo del popolo, ed era più alto che tutto il popolo dall'omero in suso.
24 Samuel then said to all the people, 'You have seen the man whom Yahweh has chosen, and thatamong the whole people he has no equal.' And all the people acclaimed him, shouting, 'Long live the king!'	24 E Samuel disse a tutto il popolo: certo voi vedete colui il quale Iddio hae eletto, chè non è simile a lui in tutto il popolo. E tutto il popolo gridava: viva il re (così dicendo tra loro).
25 Samuel then explained the king's constitutional position to the people and inscribed this in a bookwhich he placed before Yahweh. Samuel then sent al the people away, everyone back to his home.	25 E Samuel disse al popolo la legge del regno, e scrissela nel libro, e ripuosela nel cospetto di Dio; e lasciò Samuel andare il popolo, ciascuno alla sua casa.
26 Saul too went home to Gibeah and with him went those strong men whose hearts God had touched.	26 E anco Saul n' andò alla sua casa in Gabaa: e con esso lui andò parte del popolo, delli quali Iddio avea toccato il cuore.
27 But there were some scoundrels who said, 'How can this fellow save us?' These treated him withcontempt and offered him no present.	27 E i figliuoli del diavolo dissero: come ci potrà salvare costui? E ispregiarolo, e non gli portarono doni; ma ello dimostrava di non intendergli.
