Deuteronomy 1

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 These are the words which Moses addressed to al Israel beyond the Jordan, in the desert, in theArabah facing Suph, between Paran and Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth and Dizahab.	1 Queste sono le parole le quali parlò Moisè a tutti i figliuoli d'Israel, di là dal fiume Giordano, nel piano del deserto verso il mare rosso nella terra di Faran e di Tofel, e Laban e Aserot, dove è (copia e) abbondanza d'oro,
2 It is eleven days' journey from Horeb by way of Mount Seir to Kadesh-Barnea.	2 undici dì (continui) di Oreb per la via del monte di Seir insino a Cadesbarne.
3 It was in the fortieth year, on the first day of the eleventh month, that Moses told the Israeliteseverything that Yahweh had ordered him to tel them.	3 Nella fine di quaranta anni, nell'undecimo mese, il primo dì del mese parlò Moisè ai figliuoli d'Israel tutte quelle cose, che Iddio gli avea comandate che dicesse loro,
4 He had defeated Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon, and Og king of Bashan, who livedat Ashtaroth and Edrei.	4 poi che uccise Seon re degli Amorrei il quale abitava in Esebon, e Og re di Basan il quale istette in Astarot e in Edrai,
5 There, in Moab beyond the Jordan, Moses resolved to expound this Law. He said:	5 di là dal fiume Giordano nella terra di Moab. Allora cominciò Moisè a ispianare la legge, e dire:
6 'Yahweh our God said to us at Horeb, "You have stayed long enough at this mountain.	6 Lo Signore Iddio nostro parlò a noi in Oreb e disse: bastivi, che voi sete istati in questo monte.
7 Move on, continue your journey, go to the highlands of the Amorites, to al those who live in the Arabah,in the highlands, in the lowlands, in the Negeb and in the coastland; go into Canaan and to Lebanon as far asthe great River Euphrates.	7 Ritornate, e venite al monte degli Amorrei e a tutti quanti i piani i quali gli sono presso, e anco ai monti e ai luoghi bassi che sono contro al mezzodì e appresso il lito del mare, terra de' Cananei e di Libano, insino a quello grande fiume Eufrate.
8 Look, that is the country I have given you; go and take possession of the country that Yahweh promisedon oath to give to your ancestors, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and to their descendants after them."	8 Impercio che, così parlando, io ve la diedi, entratevi entro, e sì (l'abitate e) possedetela; sopra la quale terra Iddio giurò ai vostri padri, ciò furono Abraam, Isaac e Iacob, che egli ve la darebbe, e ancora a quegli che nascessero dopo voi.
9 'At the same time, I told you, "I cannot be responsible for you by myself.	9 E allora io vi dissi in quello tempo:
10 Yahweh your God has increased your numbers, until you are now as numerous as the stars ofheaven.	10 Io non posso solo governarvi (e guardarvi), imperciòche Iddio nostro Signore v'ha moltiplicati e fatto crescere, e siete oggi come le stelle del cielo cresciuti (e multiplicati).
11 And Yahweh your God is going to increase you a thousand times more, and bless you as he haspromised you.	11 Iddio, Signore de' vostri padri, ancora ci aggiunga numero (e quantitade) di molte migliaia; e sì vi dia la sua benedizione, come egli disse.
12 So how can I cope by myself with the bitter burden that you are, and with your bickering?	12 Io non posso, solo, i vostri fatti (fare nè) so stenere, e ancora (la fatica,) il peso e le vostre bri ghe (e contenzioni).
13 From each of your tribes pick wise, shrewd and experienced men for me to make your leaders."	13 Datemi de' vostri (uomini) savi ed esperti, i l'usanza (e i modi) de' quali sia provata (e accetta) nelle vostre tribù, acciò ch' io gli (faccia e) ponga principi sopra di voi.
14 You replied, "Your plan is good."	14 Allora voi mi rispondeste, e diceste: buona cosa è questa che tu vogli fare.
15 So I took your tribal leaders, wise, experienced men, and appointed them to lead you, as captains ofthousands, hundreds, fifties, tens, and as scribes for your tribes.	15 E tolsi, di ciascuna tribù (e schiatta) vostra, uomini savi e nobili; e sì gli feci principi e capitani (sopra le tribù e le schiatte; e feci capitani) sopra cento e sopra cinquanta e sopra dieci, li quali v'insegnassero ogni cosa.
16 At that same time I told your judges, "You must give your brothers a fair hearing and see justice donebetween one person and his brother or the foreigner living with him.	16 E sì comandai loro, e dissi: fate che voi udiate tutto il popolo, e giudicate, o sia cittadino o sia peregrino.
17 You must be impartial in judgement and give an equal hearing to small and great alike. Do not beafraid of any human person, for the verdict is God's. Should a case be too difficult, bring it for me to hear.	17 Non sarà alcuna persona più accetta che l'altra, o da lungi o da presso che sia; e così udirete il piccolo come il grande, nè non (guarderete nè) accetterete la persona di chiunque si sia, imperciò che il giudicio è di Dio; onde se alcuna cosa vi fosse difficile o paresse, riportatela a me, e io l'udirò (e giudicherò).
18 And on that occasion I gave you instructions about everything you were to do."	18 E si vi comandai ogni cosa che voi doveste fare.
19 'So, as Yahweh our God had ordered, we left Horeb and made our way through that vast and terribledesert, which you saw on the way to the Amorite highlands, and arrived at Kadesh-Barnea.	19 E partiti di Oreb, si passassimo per lo de serto terribile e grandissima solitudine (ciò che non s'abitava); la quale voi vedeste per la via del monte degli Amorrei, siccome avea comandato Iddio, no stro Signore. Ed essendo noi venuti in Cadesbarne,
20 I then said, "You have now reached the Amorite highlands, which Yahweh our God has given us.	20 (in quella contrada) io vi dissi: voi siete ve nuti al monte degli Amorrei, il quale Iddio nostro Signore vi dee dare.
21 Look, Yahweh your God has given you this country. March in, take possession of it as Yahweh, theGod of your ancestors, has said; do not be afraid or discouraged."	21 Ragguarda (, e poni mente,) la terra la quale Iddio tuo Signore ti darà: vavvi, e sì la possiedi siccome Iddio tuo Signore parlò ai tuoi padri; non avere paura, e non ti sbigottire in alcuna cosa.
22 Then you al came to me and said, "Let us send men ahead of us to explore the country; they shalreport to us which way we ought to take and what towns we shal come to."	22 E voi veniste a me tutti quanti, e sì diceste: mandiamo certi uomini, i quali ragguardino e considerino la terra, è sì ci rapportino e (dicano), per quale via noi debbiamo andare, e a quali cittade.
23 This seemed good advice to me and I selected twelve men from among you, one from each tribe.	23 E piacendomi molto le parole, io sì mandai di voi duodeci uomini di ciascuna tribù (e schiatta).
24 These men made towards the highlands and went up into them; they reached the Val ey of Eshcol andreconnoitred it.	24 I quali andandovi, e salendo in su li monti, vennero insino alla valle di Botro, e (riguardata e) considerata bene la terra,
25 They col ected some of the produce of the country and brought it down to us; and they made us thisreport, "Yahweh our God has given us a fine country."	25 pigliando di quelli frutti, acciò che mostrassero loro la grassezza della terra, la quale Iddio nostro Signore ci darà.
26 You, however, refused to go up there and rebelled against the voice of Yahweh your God.	26 E non volendo credere alle parole di Dio nostro Signore,
27 You muttered in your tents, saying, "Yahweh hates us, and that is why he has brought us out of Egypt,to put us into the Amorites' power and so destroy us.	27 sì mormoraste nelle vostre abitazioni (e tra bacche e capanne, ove abitavate) e sì diceste: Iddio (ci vuole male e) hacci in odio, e perciò egli ci meno della terra d'Egitto, acciò che ci mettesse nelle mani degli Amorrei, e che ci disfacci (di sopra la terra).
28 What kind of place are we making for? Our brothers have discouraged us by saying that the peopleare stronger and tal er than we are, the cities immense, with wal s reaching to the sky. And we have seenAnakim there too."	28 Ove anderemo noi? i messi (, che noi man diamo,) si ci hanno messo grande paura in cuore, dicendoci: la gente si è in grandissima moltitudine, e molto maggiori uomini del corpo loro, che non siamo noi. Le cittadi sono grandissime; e di mura (e di fortezze armate e) acconcie insino al cielo; e come aveano veduti i figliuoli della schiatta de' gi ganti.
29 'And I said to you, "Do not take fright, do not be afraid of them.	29 E io sì vi dissi: non abbiate paura di loro,
30 Yahweh your God goes ahead of you and wil be fighting on your side, just as you saw him act inEgypt.	30 perciò che Iddio nostro Signore, il quale è nostra guida, combatterà per noi, siccome egli fece in Egitto, come vide ogni gente,
31 You have seen him in the desert too: Yahweh your God continued to support you, as a man supportshis son, al along the road you followed until you arrived here."	31 e voi medesimi il vedeste. Nel deserto Iddio Signore tuo, egli ti portoe (e menoe e guidoe); come l'uomo suole portare il suo figliuolo piccolo, così ti meno per tutta la via per la quale tu andasti, insino a tanto che voi foste venuti in questo luogo.
32 But for al this, you put no faith in Yahweh your God,	32 E certo, con tutto questo, non credeste a Dio vostro Signore;
33 going ahead of you on the journey to find you a camping ground, by night in the fire to light your path,and in the cloud by day.	33 il quale v’andò innanzi nella via, e misurò (e prese) il luogo dove dovevate porre le vostre tra bacche (e il vostro campo); mostrandovi la via di notte (come doveste andare) per lume di fuoco; il quale diede, per il dì, una colonna di nuvola.
34 'Yahweh heard what you were saying and in his anger swore this oath,	34 E udendo Dio la voce delle parole vostre, (turbato e) adirato con voi, sì giurò e disse:
35 "Not one of these people, this perverse generation, will see the fine country I swore to give yourancestors,	35 Non vederà alcuno degli uomini di questa generazione pessima la buona terra, la quale con giuramento io promisi di dare alli vostri padri,
36 except Caleb son of Jephunneh. He wil see it. To him and to his children I shal give the land he hasset foot on, for he has been perfectly obedient to Yahweh."	36 se non Caleb figliuolo di Iefone; imperciò ch' egli la vedrà, e a lui darò la terra ch' egli calcoe (e per la quale andoe), e anche alli suoi figliuoli; imperciò ch' egli seguitoe Iddio Signore.
37 Yahweh was angry with me too, because of you. "You wil not go in either," he said.	37 E non fue miranda la indignazione nel popolo; conciosia cosa che Iddio si (turboe e) adiroe ancora contro di me per voi, e dissemi: nè tu ancora entrerai in quella;
38 "Your assistant, Joshua son of Nun, will be the one to enter. Encourage him, since he is to bring Israelinto possession of the country.	38 ma Iosuè figliuolo di Nun, il quale è tuo servidore, egli v'entrerà per te: e costui fa che tu conforti e fortifichi, ed egli dividerà la terra per sorte alli figliuoli d'Israel.
39 And your little ones too, who, you said, would be seized as booty, these children of yours who do notyet know good from evil, they wil go in; I shall give it to them and they wil own it.	39 I vostri figliuoli piccoli, de' quali voi (par laste, e) diceste ch' egli sarebbono presi e menati in pregione, e quegli figliuoli i quali non cognoscono il male dal bene, loro v'entreranno; e a loro darò la terra, (e abiterannola) e possederannola.
40 But, as regards yourselves, turn round, go back into the desert, towards the Sea of Suph."	40 Voi altri tornate, e andate nella solitudine per la via del mare rosso.
41 'In reply, you then said to me, "We have sinned against Yahweh our God. We shall go up and fight justas Yahweh our God has ordered us." And each one of you buckled on his arms and equipped himself to marchup into the highlands.	41 E allora mi rispondeste, e diceste: noi abbiamo peccato commesso contro Iddio; noi si andereino e combatteremo, come Iddio hae comandato, il quale è nostro Signore. E allora apparecchiati e armati, andando in sul monte,
42 But Yahweh said to me, "Tel them this: Do not go up and fight. I am not with you. Do not letyourselves be defeated by your enemies."	42 Iddio sì mi parlò, e disse: di ’ a loro: non salite in sul monte e non combattete, perciò ch' io non sono con voi, acciò che non (fuggiate e) caggiate innanzi alla faccia de' vostri nemici.
43 So I told you, but you would not listen, and you rebel ed against the voice of Yahweh; presumptuouslyyou marched into the highlands.	43 Io vi parlai, e non mi voleste udire (nè credere); ma contraddicendo al comandamento di Dio, e levandovi in superbia, saliste in sul monte.
44 The Amorites, who live in that country of hil s, came swarming out against you like bees, pursued youand beat you from Seir to Hormah.	44 Allora uscie fuori la gente d'Amorreo, la quale abitava in su li monti, e vi venne incontro, e sì vi (sconfisse e) perseguitò, come si sogliono (cacciare e) perseguitare le api; e foste (perseguitati e) morti da Seir insino ad Orma.
45 On your return, you wept in Yahweh's presence, but he would not listen to your cries or pay attention.	45 E tornati piagnendo voi dinanzi a Dio, non vi volse udire; nè alla vostra voce e parole si vuole inclinare.
46 That was why you had to stay at Kadesh as long as you did.'	46 Voi sedeste (e isteste) molto tempo in Cadesbarne.
