1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,	1 Partissi il popolo d'Aserot, e puosero le loro tende nel deserto di Faran.
2 'Send out men, one from each tribe, to reconnoitre the land of Canaan which I am giving theIsraelites. Each of them is to be a leading man of the tribe.'	2 E ivi parlò Iddio a Moisè, dicendogli:
3 At Yahweh's order, Moses sent them from the desert of Paran. All of them were leading men of Israel.	3 Manda uomini che veggiano la terra di Canaan, la quale io debbo dare loro; e fa che siano d'ogni tribù, e siano di loro principi del popolo.
4 These were their names: For the tribe of Reuben, Shammua son of Zaccur:	4 E fece Moisè siccome Iddio avea comandato, mandando del deserto di Faran li principi uomini; de' quali questi sono i nomi:
5 for the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat son of Hori;	5 della tribù di Ruben, Sammua figliuolo di Zecur;
6 for the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;	6 della tribù di Simeon, Safat figliuolo di Uri;
7 for the tribe of of Issachar, Igal son of Joseph;	7 della tribù di Giuda, Caleb figliuolo di Iefone;
8 for the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Nun;	8 della tribù d'Issacar, Igal figliuolo di Iosef;
9 for the tribe of Benjamin, Palti son of Raphu;	9 della tribù di Efraim, Osee figliuolo di Nun;
10 for the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel son of Sodi;	10 della tribù di Beniamin, Falti figliuolo di Rafu;
11 for the tribe of Joseph, for the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi son of Susi;	11 della tribù di Zabulon, Geddiel figliuolo di Sodi;

16 Such were the names of the men whom Moses sent to reconnoitre the country. Moses then gaveHoshea son of Nun the name Joshua.	16 della tribù di Gad, Guel figliuolo di Machi.
17 Moses sent them to reconnoitre the land of Canaan, 'Go up into the Negeb,' he said, 'then go up intothe highlands.	17 Questi sono i nomi di quegli uomini, che mandò Moisè a considerare la terra di Canaan: e chiamò Osee, figliuolo di Nun, Iosuè.
18 See what sort of country it is, and what sort of people the inhabitants are, whether they are strong orweak, few or many,	18 E mandogli Moisè a considerare la terra di Canaan, e disse loro: andate per la parte del mezzo giorno. Quando voi venite al monte,
19 what sort of land they live on, whether it is good or poor; what sort of towns they live in, whether theyare open or fortified;	19 guardate la terra, com ' ella è fatta; e la gente che dentro abita, s'ell ' è forte o debole; o pochi o assai;
20 what sort of land it is, fertile or barren, wooded or open. Be bold, and bring back some of thecountry's produce.' It was the season for early grapes.	20 e se la terra è buona o ria; se [le città ] sono murate o non;
21 They went up and reconnoitred the country from the desert of Zin to Rehob, the Pass of Hamath.	21 se [ la terra ] è grassa o sterile, o boscosa o senza arbori. Confortatevi, e recateci del frutto della terra. Ed era appresso il tempo che l'uve incominciano a maturare.

23 Reaching the Vale of Eshcol, there they lopped off a vine branch with a cluster of grapes, which twoof them carried away on a pole, as wel as pomegranates and figs.	23 E vennero verso del mezzogiorno, e vennero in Ebron, ove erano Achiman e Sisai e Tolmai figliuoli di Enac. 26 Making their way to Moses, Aaron and the whole community of Israel, in the desert of Paran, atKadesh, they made their report to them and the whole community, and displayed the country's produce.	26 E tornarono quelli uomini, i quali andarono a vedere la terra di Canaan), e stettero per XL dì, e cercarono per ogni parte.
27 This was the report they gave: 'We made our way into the country where you sent us. It does indeedflow with milk and honey; here is what it produces.	27 E tornando a Moisè e ad Aaron, e a tutto il popolo ch' era nel deserto di Faran, che è in Cades, parlarono loro, e ' dissero a tutta la moltitudine, monstrando (tutti) i frutti di quella terra:
28 At the same time, its inhabitants are a powerful people; the towns are fortified and very big; yes, andwe saw the Anakim there.	28 noi vegnamo di quella terra dove voi ci comandaste; e veramente ella è terra dolce come latte e mele, come per questi frutti ne possiamo conoscere.
29 The Amalekites occupy the Negeb area, the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites the highlands, and theCanaanites the sea coast and the banks of the Jordan.'	29 Ma ella hae li monti molto grandi, e le cittade colle mura altissime. La schiatta di Enac vi vedemmo.

32 And they began disparaging to the Israelites the country they had reconnoitred, saying, 'The countrywe have been to reconnoitre is a country that devours its inhabitants. Al the people we saw there were ofenormous size.	32 E gli altri, ch' erano istati con lui, diceano: lasciate dire, chè noi non potremo resistere loro, però che loro sono più forti di noi.
33 We saw giants there too (the Anakim, descended from the Giants). We felt like grasshoppers, andso we seemed to them.'	33 La terra, che aveano veduta buona, si la faceano cattiva presso il popolo d'Israel, e diceano: la terra che noi vedemmo sì è piena degli suoi abitatori, e il popolo che noi vedemmo ha grandissima statura.
	34 Noi vi vedemmo la mostra de' figliuoli di Enac, i quali pareano giganti; chè appresso loro parevamo minori che grilli.
