Sirach 7

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 Do no evil, and evil wil not befal you;	1 Non fare male, e il male non ti piglierae.
2 shun wrong, and it wil avoid you.	2 Pàrtiti dal malvagio, e li mali si partiranno da te.
3 My child, do not sow in the furrows of wickedness, for fear you have to reap them seven times over.	3 Non seminare mali nelli solchi d' ingiustizia, e non li mieterai sette per uno.
4 Do not ask the Lord for the highest place, or the king for a seat of honour.	4 Non domandare dall' uomo il ducato, nè dal re la sedia dello onore.
5 Do not parade your uprightness before the Lord, or your wisdom before the king.	5 Non ti giustificherai dinanzi da Dio, però ch' egli è conoscitore del cuore; e non volerti mostrare savio appresso il re.
6 Do not scheme to be appointed judge, for fear you should not be strong enough to stamp out injustice,for fear of being swayed by someone influential and so of risking the loss of your integrity.	6 Non volere diventare giudice, se tu non puoi per le tue bontadi rompere le iniquitadi acciò che tu non impaurisca dalla faccia del potente, e metta scandalo nella tua levità.
7 Do not wrong the general body of citizens and so lower yourself in popular esteem.	7 E non peccare nella moltitudine della (tua) cittade, nè non ti mescolare infra il popolo.
8 Do not be drawn to sin twice over, for you wil not go unpunished even once.	8 E non legare insieme doppi peccati; però che tu non saresti sanza peccato.
9 Do not say, 'God will be impressed by my numerous offerings; when I sacrifice to God Most High, he isbound to accept.'	9 E non essere pusillanimo nell' anima tua.
10 Do not be hesitant in prayer; do not neglect to give alms.	10 Non dispregiare d' adorare e di fare limosina.
11 Do not laugh at someone who is sad of heart, for he who brings low can lift up high.	11 Non dire: nella moltitudine Iddio guarderà il numero de' miei meriti, e la misericordia sua riceverae me offendente a Dio altissimo.
12 Do not make up lies against your brother, nor against a friend either.	12 Non dileggiare l' uomo nell' amaritudine dell' anima sua; Domenedio riguardatore è colui il quale umilia ed esalta.
13 Mind you tel no lies, for no good can come of it.	13 Non amare la bugia contro al fratello tuo; nè contro allo amico farai lo somigliante.
14 Do not talk too much at the gathering of elders, and do not repeat yourself at your prayers.	14 Non dire ogni dì bugia; il dire continuo bugia non è buono.
15 Do not shirk tiring jobs or farm work, ordained by the Most High.	15 Non essere pieno di parole nella moltitudine de' preti, e non reiterare la parola nel tuo dire.
16 Do not swell the ranks of sinners, remember that the retribution wil not delay.	16 Non odiare le faticose opere, e l'agricoltura [che] fu da Dio trovata.
17 Be very humble, since the recompense for the godless is fire and worms.	17 Non ti gittare nella moltitudine de' non ammaestrati.
18 Do not barter a friend away for the sake of profit, nor a true brother for the gold of Ophir.	18 Ricordati dell' ira (di Dio), però che non tarderà.
19 Do not turn against a wise and good wife; her gracious presence is worth more than gold.	19 Umilia molto l'animo tuo; però che la vendetta della carne ne viene incontro alli rei in fuoco e in vermi.
20 Do not il -treat a slave who is an honest worker, or a wage-earner who is devoted to you.	20 Non fallire contro allo amico che ti recherae in guardia pecunia; nè per oro ti dispartirai dal tuo fratello carissimo.
21 Love an intel igent slave with al your heart, and do not deny such a slave his freedom.	21 Non ti partire dalla savia femina e buona, la quale t'è venuta in parte nel timore di Dio; la grazia della onestade di colei è sopra tutto oro.
22 Have you cattle? Look after them; if they are making you a profit, keep them.	22 Non offenderai il servo operante nella veritade, nè il mercenario dante l'anima sua.
23 Have you children? Educate them, from childhood make them bow the neck.	23 Il savio servo sia amato da te, quasi come l'anima tua; non li fraudare la libertade, e non lo lasciare povero.
24 Have you daughters? Take care of their bodies, but do not be over-indulgent.	24 Tu hai bestie? attendi a quelle; e s'elle ti sono utili, persèverino appo teszon out ah al fons)
25 Marry a daughter off, and you have finished a great work; but give her to a man of sense.	25 Se tu hai figliuoli, ammaestragli (che sieno ubbidienti), e fiaccali dalla loro puerizia.
26 Have you a wife to your liking? Do not turn her out; but if you do not love her, never trust her.	26 Se tu hai figliuole, guarda il corpo loro, e non mostrare loro la faccia tua allegra.
27 With al your heart honour your father, never forget the birthpangs of your mother.	27 Dà la figliuola tua a marito, e averai fatta grande opera; e dàlla ad uomo savio.
28 Remember that you owe your birth to them; how can you repay them for what they have done for you?	28 Se tu averai moglie secondo l'anima tua, non la cacciare; e non ti commettere tutto a quella che è da avere in odio.
29 With al your soul, fear the Lord and revere his priests.	29 Onora il padre tuo, e non dimenticare il pianto della madre tua.
30 With al your might love him who made you, and do not abandon his ministers.	30 Ricordati che se non fosse per coloro, tu non saresti nato; e fa che tu rimeriti coloro, sì come eglino te.
31 Fear the Lord and honour the priest and give him the portion enjoined on you: first-fruits, sacrifice ofreparation, shoulder-gift, sanctification sacrifice, first-fruits of the holy things.	31 In tutta l'anima tua temi Iddio, e santifica li sacerdoti suoi.
32 And also give generously to the poor, so that your blessing may lack nothing.	32 In ogni tua forza ama colui che fece te, e non abbandonare li ministri suoi.
33 Let your generosity extend to al the living, do not withhold it even from the dead.	33 Onora Iddio con tutta l'anima tua, e onora li sacerdoti (suoi); e ispurga te colla tua fatica.
34 Do not turn your back on those who weep, but share the grief of the grief-stricken.	34 Dà a loro la parte delle primizie, sì come è comandamento a te; e pùrgati della negligenza tua con poche cose.
35 Do not shrink from visiting the sick; in this way you wil make yourself loved.	35 Offeri a Dio il frutto della tua fatica, e il sacrificio della santificazione, e' principii de' santi.
36 In everything you do, remember your end, and you wil never sin.	36 E porgi la mano tua al povero, acciò che si compia la preghiera tua e la benedizione tua.
	37 La grazia del dato in conspetto d' ogni vivente, e non dinegare la grazia al morto.
	38 Non fallire a coloro che piangono nella consolazione, e va con coloro che amano.
	39 Non t'incresca di visitare lo infermo; con queste opere ti confermerai in dilezione.
	40 In tutte le tue opere ti ricorderai della morte tua, e in eterno non peccherai.
