Wisdom 3

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 But the souls of the upright are in the hands of God, and no torment can touch them.	1 Le anime de' giusti sono nella mano di Dio, e non li toccherà tormento di morte.
2 To the unenlightened, they appeared to die, their departure was regarded as disaster,	2 Alli occhi delli insipidi pare ch' elli muoiano, e la fine loro è stimata afflizione.
3 their leaving us like annihilation; but they are at peace.	3 (E dal giusto cammino si partiranno li rei, e andaranno in perdizione; e) quello che è da noi viaggio, è combattimento; ma coloro sono in pace.
4 If, as it seemed to us, they suffered punishment, their hope was rich with immortality;	4 E se elli soffersono tormento dinanzi dalli uomini, la loro speranza sì è piena d' immortalitade.
5 slight was their correction, great wil their blessings be. God was putting them to the test and has provedthem worthy to be with him;	5 In poche cose sono stati perseguitati, in molte cose fieno beni disposti; per che Iddio li tentoe, e trovolli degni di sè.
6 he has tested them like gold in a furnace, and accepted them as a perfect burnt offering.	6 Sì come oro in fornace li provoe, e sì come ostia di sacrificio li ricevette, e nel tempo sarà il riguardamento loro.
7 At their time of visitation, they wil shine out; as sparks run through the stubble, so will they.	7 Risplenderanno li giusti; sì come faville in canneto, così scorreranno.
8 They wil judge nations, rule over peoples, and the Lord wil be their king for ever.	8 E giudicheranno le nazioni, e signoreggeranno li popoli, e il loro Iddio regnerae in perpetuo.
9 Those who trust in him wil understand the truth, those who are faithful wil live with him in love; forgrace and mercy await his holy ones, and he intervenes on behalf of his chosen.	9 Coloro che si confidano in lui, intenderanno la veritade; e li fedeli si riposeranno con lui nella dilezione; però che dono e pace averanno li suoi eletti.
10 But the godless wil be duly punished for their reasoning, for having neglected the upright and desertedthe Lord.	10 Ma li empii saranno castigati secondo ch' elli pensarono, li quali lasciarono lo giusto, e partironsi da Dio.
11 Yes, wretched are they who scorn wisdom and discipline: their hope is void, their toil unavailing, theirachievements unprofitable;	11 Colui è disavventurato, il quale caccia da sè la sapienza e la disciplina; e la speranza loro è vana, e le loro fatiche sono sanza frutto, e l' opere loro saranno inutili.
12 their wives are reckless, their children depraved, their descendants accursed.	12 Le loro femine sono insensate, e li loro figliuoli sono malvagissimi.
13 Blessed the sterile woman if she be blameless, and has not known an unlawful bed, for she wil havefruit at the visitation of souls.	13 Maledetta la loro creatura, e bene avventurata la sterile; e la non corrotta, che non conobbe letto in peccato, averae frutto nello ragguardamento dell' anime sante.
14 Blessed, too, the eunuch whose hand commits no crime, and who harbours no resentment against theLord: a special favour will be granted to him for his loyalty, a most desirable portion in the temple of the Lord.	14 Il castrato, che non fece colle sue mani iniquitade, e non pensoe contro al Signore cose malvagie, a colui sarà dato dono eletto di fede, e graziosa sorte nel tempio [di Dio].
15 For the fruit of honest labours is glorious, and the root of understanding does not decay.	15 Glorioso è il frutto delle buone fatiche, e la radice della sapienza non si torrae.
16 But the children of adulterers wil not reach maturity, the offspring of an unlawful bed wil disappear.	16 Li figliuoli delli adùlteri saranno in consumazione; il seme si sradicherae del malvagio letto.
17 Even if they live long, they wil count for nothing, their old age wil go unhonoured at the last;	17 E se elli pure fussono di lunga vita, sì saranno computati per nulla; e l' ultima loro vecchiezza sarà sanza onore.
18 while if they die early, they have neither hope nor comfort on the day of judgement,	18 E se tostamente morranno, non averanno speranza, e non averanno lingua.
19 for the end of a race of evil-doers is harsh.	19 Però che le crudeli nazioni e inique sono di (crudele) dannazione.
