[Psalm Of David When he was in the desert of Judah] God, you are my God, I pine for you; my heartthirsts for you, my body longs for you, as a land parched, dreary and waterless. | 1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; |
Thus I have gazed on you in the sanctuary, seeing your power and your glory. | 2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. |
Better your faithful love than life itself; my lips wil praise you. | 3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. |
Thus I will bless you al my life, in your name lift up my hands. | 4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. |
Al my longings fulfil ed as with fat and rich foods, a song of joy on my lips and praise in my mouth. | 5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: |
On my bed when I think of you, I muse on you in the watches of the night, | 6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. |
for you have always been my help; in the shadow of your wings I rejoice; | 7 Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. |
my heart clings to you, your right hand supports me. | 8 My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me. |
May those who are hounding me to death go down to the depths of the earth, | 9 But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth. |
given over to the blade of the sword, and left as food for jackals. | 10 They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes. |
Then the king shall rejoice in God, al who swear by him shal gain recognition, for the mouths of liarsshall be silenced. | 11 But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped. |
