1 After this, Absalom procured a chariot and horses, with fifty men to run ahead of him.	1 E dopo questo Assalom fece carra e cavalieri, e cinquanta uomini che andassero dinanzi a lui.
2 He would get up early and stand beside the road leading to the city gate; and whenever a man withsome lawsuit had to come before the king's tribunal, Absalom would cal out to him and ask, 'Which town are youfrom?' If he answered, 'Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel,'	2 E levandosi la mattina, Assalom istava nell'entrata della porta (della via), e chiamava ogni uomo che avea a fare alcuna cosa dinanzi al re, che venisse a sè, e dicea: di quale città se' tu? Il quale respondea: io sono [di] una delle tribù d' Israel, tuo servo.
3 then Absalom would say, 'Look, your case is sound and just, but not one of the king's deputies willisten to you.'	3 E Assalom gli respondea: a me paiono le parole tue buone e giuste, ma non è persona ordinata dal re, che ti oda. E dicea Assalom:
4 Absalom would say, 'Oh, who will appoint me judge in the land? Then anyone with a lawsuit or a pleacould come to me and I should see he had justice!'	4 chi mi farebbe giudice sopra la terra, acciò che venissero a me tutti quelli che avessero alcuna lite, e giudicherò secondo la giustizia?
5 And whenever anyone came up to him to prostrate himself, he would stretch out his hand, draw him tohim and kiss him.	5 E quando la persona andava a lui per salutarlo, estendea la mano, e prendealo, e basciavalo.
6 Absalom acted like this with every Israelite who appealed to the king's tribunal, and so Absalom wonthe Israelites' hearts.	6 E così facea ad ogni uomo d' Israel, che venia per essere udito dal re per alcuna cosa; e in questo modo sollecitava il cuore di tutti gli uomini d' Israel.
7 When four years had gone by, Absalom said to the king, 'Al ow me to go to Hebron and fulfil the vowwhich I have made to Yahweh;	7 E dopo XL anni disse Assalom al re David; io andrò in Ebron, e renderò gli miei voti li quali io votai a Dio.
8 for, when I was in Geshur, in Aram, your servant made this vow, "If Yahweh brings me back toJerusalem, I shal pay my devotions to Yahweh in Hebron." '	8 Però che quando io tuo servo era in Gessur di Siria, mi votai dicendo: se Iddio mi ridurrà in Ierusalem, farò sacrificio a Dio.
9 The king said to him, 'Go in peace.' So he set off and went to Hebron.	9 E disse il re David: va in pace. E andossene in Ebron.
10 Absalom sent couriers throughout the tribes of Israel to say, 'When you hear the trumpet sound, you are to say, "Absalom is king at Hebron!" '	10 E mandò Assalom ispie per tutte le tribù d' Israel, dicendo: sùbito che voi audirete il suono della tromba, dite: Assalom regna in Ebron.
11 With Absalom went two hundred men from Jerusalem; they had been invited and had gone in alinnocence, unaware of what was going on.	11 E con esso Assalom andarono CC uomini, chiamati di Ierusalem; li quali andarono con puro cuore, non sapendo la cagione.
12 Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counsellor, from Giloh his town, and had him withhim while offering the sacrifices. The conspiracy grew in strength, since Absalom's supporters grew in number.	12 E chiamò Assalom Achitofel, Gilonito e consigliere di David, della sua città di Gilo. E facendo sacrificio, fu fatta una fortissima congiurazione; e tuttavia correndo il popolo crescea con esso Assalom.
13 A messenger came and told David, 'The men of Israel have shifted their allegiance to Absalom.'	13 E uno messaggio venne a David, e disse: tutto Israel sèguita Assalom con tutto il cuore.
14 David said to al his retinue then with him in Jerusalem, 'Up, let us flee, or we shal not escape fromAbsalom! Leave as quickly as you can, in case he mounts a sudden attack, overcomes us and puts the city tothe sword.'	14 E disse David a' servi suoi, li quali erano con lui in Ierusalem: istate suso, e fuggiamo dal cospetto di Assalom; però che non ci sarebbe di potere iscampare; spacciatevi, usciamo, acciò che non ci occupi, e induca sopra di noi ruina, e ferisca la città di coltello.
15 The king's retinue replied, 'Whatever my lord the king decides, we are at your service.'	15 E i servi suoi dissero a lui: tutto ciò che il nostro Signore lo re ci comandò, noi vostri servi faremo volontieri.
16 The king set out on foot with his whole household, leaving ten concubines to look after the palace.	16 Onde il re, e tutta la sua casa, uscì fuori a piè; e lasciò il re dieci femine, sue concubine, a guardia della casa.
17 The king set out on foot with everyone fol owing, and they halted at the last house.	17 E uscio il re, e tutta la sua casa, a piè; e istette da lungi alla casa.
18 Al his officers stood at his side. All the Cherethites and all the Pelethites, with Ittai and all the sixhundred Gittites who had come in his retinue from Gath, marched past the king.	18 E tutti i servi suoi presso a lui, e le legioni de' Celeti e Feleti (e le compagnie de' guardiani della persona sua) e tutti i combattitori di Get, uomini forti secento, e quegli che l'aveano seguitato di Get a piedi andavano inanzi al re.
19 The king said to Ittai the Gittite, 'You, why are you coming with us? Go back and stay with the king,for you are a foreigner, indeed an exile from your homeland.	19 E disse David a Etai di Get: perchè vieni tu con noi? tòrnati, e abita col re, però che tu se' peregrino, partito da casa.
20 You arrived only yesterday; should I take you wandering with us today, when I do not know myselfwhere I am going? Go back, take your fellow countrymen with you, and may Yahweh show you mercy andfaithful love!'	20 Ieri venisti, e oggi se' costretto di partirti di casa tua? Io andrò dove debbo andare; ritòrnati, e rimènati i tuoi fratelli, e il Signore Iddio farà teco misericordia e verità, però che tu m' hai mostrato grazia e fede.
21 Ittai replied to the king, 'As Yahweh lives, and as my lord the king lives, wherever my lord the kingmay be, for death or life, your servant wil be there too.'	21 Ed Etai rispuose al re, e disse: vive il Signore, e vive l'anima tua, signore mio re, che in qualunque luogo sarai andato, ovvero in morte ovvero in vita, ivi sarà il tuo servo.
22 David then said to Ittai, 'Go ahead, march past!' And Ittai of Gath marched past with al his men andwith all his children too.	22 E il re disse a Etai: vieni e passa. E passò Etai Geteo (e il re) e tutti quelli ch' erano con esso lui, e tutta la moltitudine.
23 The entire population was weeping aloud as the king stood in the bed of the Kidron and everyonemarched past him, making for the desert.	23 E tutti (gli uomini) piagneano ad alta voce, e tutto il popolo passava; e il re passava il fiume di Cedron, e tutto il popolo andava contro la via (dello olivo) la quale guarda il deserto.
24 Zadok was there too, and al the Levites with him, carrying the ark of God. They set the ark of Goddown beside Abiathar until everyone had finished marching out of the town.	24 E venne anche Sadoc sacerdote, e tutti i leviti, e portavano l'arca del testamento di Dio (di Betleem); e ascendeo Abiatar, tanto che fue compiuto tutto il popolo il quale era uscito della città.
25 The king then said to Zadok, 'Take the ark of God back into the city. Should I win Yahweh's favour,he wil bring me back and al ow me to see it and its tent once more.	25 E disse il re a Sadoc: ripòrtati l'arca di Dio nella città; però che se io ho trovato grazia negli occhii del Signore, egli mi revocherà, e mostrerammi l'arca e il suo tabernacolo.
26 But should he say, "You displease me," here I am: let him treat me as he sees fit.'	26 E se lui mi dirà: tu non mi piaci, sono apparecchiato, faccia quello che meglio gli pare.
27 The king said to Zadok the priest, 'Look, you and Abiathar go back quietly into the city, with your twosons, your own son Ahimaaz and Jonathan son of Abiathar.	27 E disse a Sadoc sacerdote il re vedi, ritorna alla città, tu e Achimas tuo figliuolo, e Ionata figliuolo di Abiatar, e due vostri figliuoli, siano con esso voi.
28 You see, I shall wait in the passes of the desert plain until word comes from you bringing me news.'	28 E io mi nasconderò nei campi del deserto, tanto che da voi mi sarà significato.
29 So Zadok and Abiathar took the ark of God back to Jerusalem and stayed there.	29 E riportarono l'arca in Ierusalem Sadoc e Abiatar, e istetlero ivi.
30 David then made his way up the Mount of Olives, weeping as he went, his head covered and his feetbare. And al the people with him had their heads covered and made their way up, weeping as they went.	30 E David ascendea la costa degli olivi, piangendo, col capo coperto e con i piedi ignudi; e tutto il popolo, il quale era con lui, col capo coperto andavano piagnendo.
31 David was then informed that Ahithophel was among the conspirators with Absalom. David said, 'Ibeg you, Yahweh, turn Ahithophel's advice to fol y.'	31 E fu significato a David, che Achitofel era in congiurazione con esso Assalom, e disse David: o Signore Iddio, fa che sia istolto il consiglio di Achitofel.
32 As David reached the summit, where God is worshipped, he saw Hushai the Archite, his friend,coming to meet him with his tunic torn and with earth on his head.	32 E asceso David nella sommità del monte, dove egli doveva orare il Signore, vennegli incontro Cusai Arachito co' panni squarciati, e col capo pieno di terra.
33 David said, 'If you go along with me, you wil be a burden to me.	33 E David gli disse: se tu verrai meco, tu mi sarai gravezza.
34 But if you go back to the city and say to Absalom, "I am at your service, my lord king; once I was inyour father's service, but now I shal serve you," you wil be able to thwart Ahithophel's advice for me.	34 Ma se tu tornerai alla città, e dirai ad Assalom io sono tuo servo, signore re (piacciati ch' io viva), come io fui servo del tuo padre, così sarò servo tuo; tu disfarai il consiglio di Achitofel.
35 Surely the priests Zadok and Abiathar wil be with you? Anything you hear from the palace you mustreport to the priests Zadok and Abiathar.	35 E avrai teco Sadoc e Abiatar sacerdoti; e tutto quello che tu intenderai della casa del re, significara'lo a Sadoc e Abiatar sacerdoti.
36 You see, their two sons are there with them, Zadok's son Ahimaaz, and Abiathar's son Jonathan;through these, you will send me word of everything you hear.'	36 E sì hanno con esso loro due figliuoli, Achimaas figliuolo di Sadoc, e Ionata figliuolo di Abiatar; e manderetemi a dire per loro tutto quello che voi intenderete.
37 Hushai, David's friend, entered the city just as Absalom was reaching Jerusalem.	37 E vegnendo Cusai amico di David nella città, Assalom entrò in Ierusalem.
