Genesis 48

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 Some time later, Joseph was informed, 'Your father has been taken il .' So he took with him his twosons Manasseh and Ephraim.	1 Queste così fatte cose passate, è nunciato a Iosef, ch' avea male lo padre suo; il quale tolto due suoi figliuoli, Manasse ed Efraim, cominciò ad andare.
2 When Jacob was told, 'Look, your son Joseph has come to you,' Israel, summoning his strength, satup in bed.	2 E detto fu al vecchio: ecco lo tuo figliuolo Iosef che viene a te. Il quale confortato siedè nel letto.
3 'El Shaddai appeared to me at Luz in Canaan,' Jacob told Joseph, 'and he blessed me,	3 E venuto a lui Iosef, disse: lo Iddio onnipotente apparìo a me in Luza, la quale è nella terra Canaan, e benedisse me;
4 saying to me, "I shall make you fruitful and numerous, and shal make you into an assembly ofpeoples and give this country to your descendants after you, to own in perpetuity."	4 e disse: io accrescerò te, e moltiplicherò te, e farotti nelle turbe de'popoli; e darò a te questa terra, e al seme tuo dopo te, in possessione sempiterna.
5 Now your two sons, born to you in Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, shal be mine; Ephraim andManasseh shall be as much mine as Reuben and Simeon.	5 Adunque due tuoi figliuoli, i quali sono nati a te nella terra d'Egitto innanzi ch' io venissi qua a te, miei saranno: Efraim e Manasse, siccome Ru ben e Simeon, saranno a me reputati.
6 But with regard to the children you have had since them, they shall be yours, and they shal be knownby their brothers' names for the purpose of their inheritance.	6 Tutti gli altri, che tu genererai dopo costoro, tuoi saranno; e per lo nome de'fratelli loro saranno chiamati nelle possessioni sue.
7 'When I was on my way from Paddan, to my sorrow death took your mother Rachel from me inCanaan, on the journey while only a short distance from Ephrath. I buried her there on the road to Ephrath --now Bethlehem.'	7 A me, quando venea di Mesopotamia (di Siri), morì Rachel nella terra Canaan in quello andare, ed era lo tempo di verno, ch' andava in Efrata; e seppellii lei appresso la via di Efrata; e per un altro nome è appellata, cioè Betleem.
8 When Israel saw Joseph's two sons, he asked, 'Who are these?'	8 E veggendo li figliuoli suoi, disse a lui: chi sono questi figliuoli?
9 'They are my sons, whom God has given me here,' Joseph told his father. 'Then bring them to me', hesaid, 'so that I may bless them.'	9 Respuose: sono miei figliuoli, li quali diede a me Iddio in questo luogo. Ed egli disse: mena loro qua a me, acciò ch' io gli benedica.
10 Now, Israel's eyes were dim with age, and he could not see. So Joseph made them come closer tohim and he kissed and embraced them.	10 In verità gli occhii d'Israel erano scurati per la troppo vecchiezza, e chiaro vedere non potea. E recatoglisi a sé, sì gli basciò ed abbracciogli.
11 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'I did not think I should ever see you again, and now God has let me seeyour children as wel !'	11 E disse allo figliuolo suo: io non sono ingannato dello aspetto tuo; anzi mostrò a me Iddio lo seme tuo.
12 Then Joseph took them from his lap and bowed to the ground.	12 E conciosia cosa che tollesse loro Iosef del grembo del padre, adorò inchinato nella terra.
13 Then Joseph took the two of them, Ephraim with his right hand so that he should be on Israel's left,and Manasseh with his left hand, so that he should be on Israel's right, and brought them close to him.	13 E puose Efraim dal lato diritto suo, cioè dalla mano manca sua d'Israel; e Manasse puose dalla mano sinistra sua, cioè diritta del padre; e puose amendue dinanzi da lui.
14 But Israel held out his right hand and laid it on the head of Ephraim, the younger, and his left on thehead of Manasseh, crossing his hands -- Manasseh was, in fact, the elder.	14 Lo quale istendette le mani: la mano di ritta puose sopra lo capo d'Efraim, minore fratello, e la sinistra sopra lo capo di Manasse, il quale era primonato, commutando le mani.
15 Then he blessed Joseph saying: May the God in whose presence my fathers Abraham and Isaacwalked, the God who has been my shepherd from my birth until this day,	15 E benedisse Iosef suo figliuolo, e disse: Iddio nel cui aspetto andarono li padri miei Abraam, Isaac, e Iddio il quale pascette me dalla fanciullezza mia insino al presente dì,
16 the Angel who has saved me from al harm, bless these boys, so that my name may live on in them,and the names of my ancestors Abraham and Isaac, and they grow into teeming multitudes on earth!	16 e lo angelo che campò me da tutti li mali, benedica questi fanciulli; e sia chiamato sopra loro lo nome mio e li nomi de'padri miei Abram ed Isaac, e crescano in moltitudine sopra la terra.
17 Joseph saw that his father was laying his right hand on the head of Ephraim, and this he thought waswrong, so he took his father's hand and tried to shift it from the head of Ephraim to the head of Manasseh.	17 Ma veggendo Iosef, che avea posto il padre suo la sua mano diritta sopra lo capo di Efraim, avelo a male; e preso la mano del padre, si forzò di levarla dal capo di Efraim, e porla sopra lo capo di Manasse.
18 Joseph protested to his father, 'Not like that, father! This one is the elder; put your right hand on hishead.'	18 E disse al padre: el non si conviene così, padre; perciò che questi è lo primogenito, poni la mano tua diritta sopra lo capo suo.
19 But his father refused. 'I know, my son, I know,' he said. 'He too shal become a people; he too wilbe great. But his younger brother wil be greater, his offspring wil be sufficient to constitute nations.'	19 Il quale refiutandolo disse: io so, figliuolo mio, io so che questo ancora sarà in popoli e moltiplicherà; ma il fratello suo più giovane sarà maggiore di lui, e lo seme suo crescerà in gente.
20 So he blessed them that day, saying: By you shal Israel bless itself, saying, 'God make you likeEphraim and Manasseh!' putting Ephraim before Manasseh.	20 E benedisse loro in quello tempo, dicendo: in te sarà benedetto Israel, e anche si dirà: faccia a te Iddio, siccome Efraim e Manasse. E ordinò Efraim innanzi a Manasse.
21 Then Israel said to Joseph, 'Now I am about to die. But God will be with you and take you back to theland of your ancestors.	21 E disse a Iosef, suo figliuolo: in verità io muoio, e sarà Iddio con voi, e riducerà voi alla terra de'padri vostri.
22 As for me, I give you a Shechem more than your brothers, the one I took from the Amorites with mysword and bow.'	22 Io dò a te una parte più che ai fratelli tuoi, la quale io arrecai della mano delli Amorrei per lo coltello ed arco mio.
