1 The Philistines, having captured the ark of God, transferred it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.	1 E i Filistei tolsero l'arca di Dio, e portaronla dalla pietra dello adiutorio in Azoto.
2 They then took the ark of God and brought it into the temple of Dagon, placing it beside Dagon.	2 E questi Filistei tolsero l'arca di Dio, e puoserla nel tempio di Dagon, e puoserla appo lui.
3 When the people of Ashdod rose early the next morning, Dagon was lying prone on the ground before the ark of the LORD. So they picked Dagon up and replaced him.	3 E levandosi la mattina quelli di Azoto l' altro dì, ecco che Dagon giacea dinanzi dall' arca di Dio; e tolsero Dagon, e restituìrlo nel suo luogo.
4 But the next morning early, when they arose, Dagon lay prone on the ground before the ark of the LORD, his head and hands broken off and lying on the threshold, his trunk alone intact.	4 E anco l'altro dì, levandosi la mattina, trovarono Dagon giacere sopra il suo viso in terra dinanzi all' arca di Dio; e il capo di Dagon e due palme delle sue mani erano tagliate sopra il sogliaro.
5 For this reason, neither the priests of Dagon nor any others who enter the temple of Dagon tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this very day; they always step over it.	5 E Dagon, solo il troncone, era rimaso nel suo luogo. Per questa cagione li sacerdoti di Dagon, e tutti quegli ch' entrano nel tempio suo, non pongono piede sopra il sogliare di Dagon in Azoto, per fino al dì d' oggi.
6 Now the LORD dealt severely with the people of Ashdod. He ravaged and afflicted the city and its vicinity with hemorrhoids; he brought upon the city a great and deadly plague of mice that swarmed in their ships and overran their fields.	6 E la mano del Signore fu molto gravata sopra quelli di Azoto, e perseguitogli; e percosse Azoto e le sue tenute nella secreta parte delle natiche (di una passione, la quale i greci la chiamano ?upiye, cioè a dire quella infermità che si chiama fistola). E le ville e i campi bollirono nel mezzo della contrada, e nascerono topi, e fue fatta grande confusione di morte nella città.
7 On seeing how matters stood, the men of Ashdod decided, "The ark of the God of Israel must not remain with us, for he is handling us and our god Dagon severely."	7 E quelli di Azoto, veggendo questa piaga, dissero: non istia l'arca di Dio d' Israel appo noi, però che la sua mano è dura sopra di noi e sopra Dagon nostro iddio.
8 So they summoned all the Philistine lords and inquired of them, "What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?" The men of Gath replied, "Let them move the ark of the God of Israel on to us."	8 E mandarono e congregarono tutti gli savii de' Filistei a sè, e dissero: che faremo dell' arca di Dio d' Israel? Resposero i Getei: sia menata dintorno l'arca di Dio d' Israel. E (preso questo consiglio) sì la menarono.
9 So they moved the ark of the God of Israel to Gath! But after it had been brought there, the LORD threw the city into utter turmoil: he afflicted its inhabitants, young and old, and hemorrhoids broke out on them.	9 E menandola dintorno, la mano di Dio era fatta sopra (loro, e sopra) tutte le cittadi grande occisione; e feriva gli uomini in ciascuna città dal picciolo insino al maggiore; e diventarono putridi i loro budelli nella sommitade enfiata. E fecero conseglio quelli di Get, e fecero seggiole di pelli.
10 The ark of God was next sent to Ekron; but as it entered that city, the people there cried out, "Why have they brought the ark of the God of Israel here to kill us and our kindred?"	10 E mandarono l'arca di Dio in Accaron. Ed essendo condotta l'arca di Dio in Accaron, gridavano quelli di Accaron dicendo: hanno menato a noi l'arca di Dio d'Israel, acciò che uccida noi (l'arca di Dio d' Israel) e il nostro popolo.
11 Then they, too, sent a summons to all the Philistine lords and pleaded: "Send away the ark of the God of Israel. Let it return to its own place, that it may not kill us and our kindred." A deadly panic had seized the whole city, since the hand of God had been very heavy upon it.	11 E mandarono, e congregarono tutti i savii de' Filistei, i quali dissero: lasciate l'arca di Dio d'Israel, e torni nel suo luogo, e non uccida noi e il nostro popolo.
12 Those who escaped death were afflicted with hemorrhoids, and the outcry from the city went up to the heavens.	12 Però che in tutte le cittadi era paura di morte, e gravissima era molto la mano di Dio; e gli uomini, che non erano morti, erano percossi nella più secreta parte delle natiche; e ascendeva il pianto di ciascuna città in cielo.
