1 But David said to himself: "I shall perish some day at the hand of Saul. I have no choice but to escape to the land of the Philistines; then Saul will give up his continual search for me throughout the land of Israel, and I shall be out of his reach."	1 E David disse nel suo cuore: io cadrò, qualche volta, nelle mani di Saul; non è meglio ch' io fugga, e salvimi nella terra de' Filistei, acciò che Saul si disperi, e cessi di cercarmi in tutti i confini d' Israel? Ora fuggiamo dalle sue mani.
2 Accordingly, David departed with his six hundred men and went over to Achish, son of Maoch, king of Gath.	2 E levossi David; e con secento uomini, i quali erano con esso lui, se n' andò ad Achis figliuolo di Maoc, re di Get.
3 David and his men lived in Gath with Achish; each one had his family, and David had his two wives, Ahinoam from Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal from Carmel.	3 E abitò David con Achis in Get, egli e gli uomini suoi e la casa sua; David e due sue mogli, Achinoa di Iezrael, e Abigail moglie di Nabal di Carmelo.
4 When Saul was told that David had fled to Gath, he no longer searched for him.	4 E fu significato a Saul, che David era fuggito in Get; e non l' andò più cercando.
5 David said to Achish: "If I meet with your approval, let me have a place to live in one of the country towns. Why should your servant live with you in the royal city?"	5 E David disse ad Achis: se io ho trovato grazia negli occhii tuoi, siami dato luogo in una delle cittadi di questa provincia, nella quale io abiti: perchè istà egli il tuo servo, nella città del con teco?
6 That same day Achish gave him Ziklag, which has, therefore, belonged to the kings of Judah up to the present time.	6 Onde, in quello dì, Achis gli diede Siceleg; per la quale (cosa e) cagione Siceleg si è dei re di Giuda, insino al dì d'oggi.
7 In all, David lived a year and four months in the country of the Philistines.	7 E il numero de' dì, che David abitò in Siceleg, terra de' Filistei, si fu quattro mesi.
8 David and his men went up and made raids on the Geshurites, Girzites, and Amalekites-peoples living in the land between Telam, on the approach to Shur, and the land of Egypt.	8 E ascendeo David, e gli uomini suoi, e menava la preda di Gessuri e di Gerzi e degli Amaleciti; però che costoro anticamente abitavano pagi nella terra, andanti per Sur insino alla terra d'Egitto.
9 In attacking the land David would not leave a man or woman alive, but would carry off sheep, oxen, asses, camels, and clothes. On his return he brought these to Achish,	9 E feria David tutta la terra, e non lasciava vivo (David) uomo nè femina, tollendo buoi e pecore, asini e camelli e vestimenta; e poi ne tornava, e andàvasene ad Achis.
10 who asked, "Whom did you raid this time?" And David answered, "The Negeb of Judah," or "The Negeb of Jerahmeel," or "The Negeb of the Kenites."	10 E Achis diceva a lui: dove cavalcasti oggi? E David respondea: verso il mezzo giorno di Giuda, e verso il mezzo giorno di Gerameel, e verso il mezzo giorno di Ceni.
11 But David would not leave a man or woman alive to be brought to Gath, fearing that they would betray him by saying, "This is what David did." This was his custom as long as he lived in the country of the Philistines.	11 Nè uomo nè femina non lasciava vivo David, e non lo menava in Get, dicendo: forse che direbbe incontro a noi questo facea David. E questo era suo ordinamento, tutto il tempo che abitò nelle terre de' Filistei.
12 And Achish trusted David, thinking, "He must certainly be detested by his people Israel. I shall have him as my vassal forever."	12 Onde Achis credette a David, e dicea: molto male ha fatto contro il popolo suo Israel; e però egli sarà a me servo in sempiterno.
