1 Naomi had a prominent kinsman named Boaz, of the clan of her husband Elimelech.	1 Noemi aveva un parente di suo marito, uomo eminente, della famiglia di Elimèlech, che si chiamava Booz.
2 Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, "Let me go and glean ears of grain in the field of anyone who will allow me that favor." Naomi said to her, "Go, my daughter,"	2 Rut, la moabita, disse a Noemi: "Lascia che vada a spigolare nei campi, seguendo coloro presso cui troverò grazia ai loro occhi". Noemi le rispose: "Va', figlia mia".
3 and she went. The field she entered to glean after the harvesters happened to be the section belonging to Boaz of the clan of Elimelech.	3 Essa andò ed entrò in un campo per spigolare dietro ai mietitori e le capitò per caso di trovarsi nel campo che apparteneva a Booz, della famiglia di Elimèlech.
4 Boaz himself came from Bethlehem and said to the harvesters, "The LORD be with you!" and they replied, "The LORD bless you!"	4 Ecco che Booz venne da Betlemme e disse ai mietitori: "Il Signore sia con voi"; essi risposero: "Ti benedica il Signore".
5 Boaz asked the overseer of his harvesters, "Whose girl is this?"	5 Booz disse inoltre al servo preposto ai mietitori: "Di chi è quella ragazza?".
6 The overseer of the harvesters answered, "She is the Moabite girl who returned from the plateau of Moab with Naomi.	6 Il servo preposto ai mietitori rispose: "E' una ragazza moabita, che è tornata con Noemi dai campi di Moab. Ella ha detto:
7 She asked leave to gather the gleanings into sheaves after the harvesters; and ever since she came this morning she has remained here until now, with scarcely a moment's rest."	7 "Lasciami spigolare e raccogliere fra il grano, andando dietro ai mietitori"; è venuta ed è restata dal mattino fino ad ora, senza accordarsi nemmeno un piccolo riposo".
8 Boaz said to Ruth, "Listen, my daughter! Do not go to glean in anyone else's field; you are not to leave here. Stay here with my women servants.	8 Booz disse a Rut: "Ascolta, figlia mia: non andare a spigolare in altri campi, non allontanarti da qui e così starai insieme alle mie serve.
9 Watch to see which field is to be harvested, and follow them; I have commanded the young men to do you no harm. When you are thirsty, you may go and drink from the vessels the young men have filled."	9 Tieni d'occhio il campo che si miete e va' dietro ai mietitori. Non ho forse dato ordine ai servi di non infastidirti? Se hai sete, va' dove sono i vasi e bevi l'acqua attinta dai servi".
10 Casting herself prostrate upon the ground, she said to him, "Why should I, a foreigner, be favored with your notice?"	10 Rut si prostrò e, chinata a terra, gli disse: "Come posso aver trovato grazia ai tuoi occhi al punto che tu mi prenda in considerazione, quando io sono una straniera?".
11 Boaz answered her: "I have had a complete account of what you have done for your mother-in-law after your husband's death; you have left your father and your mother and the land of your birth, and have come to a people whom you did not know previously.	11 Booz rispose: "Mi è stato riferito tutto quello che hai fatto a tua suocera dopo la morte di tuo marito, che hai lasciato tuo padre e tua madre e la tua terra nativa e sei venuta presso un popolo che non avevi mai conosciuto.
12 May the LORD reward what you have done! May you receive a full reward from the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge."	12 Ripaghi il Signore l'opera tua e sia piena la tua ricompensa da parte del Signore Dio d'Israele, sotto le cui ali sei venuta a rifugiarti".
13 She said, "May I prove worthy of your kindness, my lord: you have comforted me, your servant, with your consoling words; would indeed that I were a servant of yours!"	13 Ella disse: "Possa io trovare grazia ai tuoi occhi, mio signore, poiché mi hai rassicurata e hai parlato al cuore della tua serva, mentre io non pretendo nemmeno di essere come una delle tue serve!".
14 At mealtime Boaz said to her, "Come here and have some food; dip your bread in the sauce." Then as she sat near the reapers, he handed her some roasted grain and she ate her fill and had some left over.	14 Al momento del pasto Booz le disse: "Avvicinati qui e mangia il pane, intingendo il tuo boccone nell'aceto". Essa sedette accanto ai mietitori ed egli le offrì spighe arrostite; Rut mangiò a sazietà e ne mise da parte.
15 She rose to glean, and Boaz instructed his servants to let her glean among the sheaves themselves without scolding her,	15 Si alzò poi per spigolare e Booz dette quest'ordine ai suoi servi: "Lasciatela spigolare anche in mezzo ai covoni e non mortificatela;
16 and even to let drop some handfuls and leave them for her to glean without being rebuked.	16 anzi lasciate cadere per essa delle spighe dai manipoli e abbandonatele, affinché essa possa raccoglierle senza che voi la rimproveriate".
17 She gleaned in the field until evening, and when she beat out what she had gleaned it came to about an ephah of barley,	17 Rut spigolò nel campo fino a sera, poi batté quello che aveva spigolato e ne venne fuori quasi un'efa di orzo:
18 which she took into the city and showed to her mother-in-law. Next she brought out and gave her what she had left over from lunch.	18 lo prese e andò in città e mostrò alla suocera quello che aveva spigolato; tirò poi fuori quello che le era avanzato dopo essersi saziata e glielo dette.
19 So her mother-in-law said to her, "Where did you glean today? Where did you go to work? May he who took notice of you be blessed!" Then she told her mother-in-law with whom she had worked. "The man at whose place I worked today is named Boaz," she said.	19 La suocera le domandò: "Dove hai spigolato oggi e dove hai lavorato? Sia benedetto chi ti ha preso in considerazione". Rut raccontò alla suocera presso chi aveva lavorato e disse: "Il nome dell'uomo, presso il quale ho lavorato oggi, è Booz".
20 "May he be blessed by the LORD, who is ever merciful to the living and to the dead," Naomi exclaimed to her daughter-in-law; and she continued, "He is a relative of ours, one of our next of kin."	20 Noemi disse alla nuora: "Benedetto sia egli dal Signore, che non ritira la sua carità né ai morti né ai vivi"; poi soggiunse: "E' un nostro parente; è uno dei nostri riscattatori".
21 "He even told me," added Ruth the Moabite, "that I should stay with his servants until they complete his entire harvest."	21 Rut la moabita disse ancora: "Mi ha anche detto: "Sta' insieme ai miei servi fino a che sia finita tutta la mia mietitura".
22 "You would do well, my dear," Naomi rejoined, "to go out with his servants; for in someone else's field you might be insulted."	22 Noemi disse a Rut sua nuora: "E' bene, figlia mia, che tu esca con le sue serve in modo che non ti importunino in un altro campo".
23 So she stayed gleaning with the servants of Boaz until the end of the barley and wheat harvests.	23 Rut infatti si unì con le serve di Booz per spigolare fino alla fine del raccolto dell'orzo e del raccolto del grano e poi restò presso la suocera.
