1 After Abimelech there rose to save Israel the Issacharite Tola, son of Puah, son of Dodo, a resident of Shamir in the mountain region of Ephraim.	1 Après Abimélek, Tola, fils de Poua, fils de Dodo, se leva pour délivrer Israël. Il était de la tribu d’Issacar et il habitait Chamir, dans la montagne d’Éphraïm.
2 When he had judged Israel twenty-three years, he died and was buried in Shamir.	2 Il jugea Israël pendant 23 ans, puis il mourut et on l’enterra à Chamir.
3 Jair the Gileadite came after him and judged Israel twenty-two years.	3 Après lui, se leva Yaïr de Galaad. Il jugea Israël pendant 22 ans.
4 He had thirty sons who rode on thirty saddle-asses and possessed thirty cities in the land of Gilead; these are called Havvoth-jair to the present day.	4 Il avait 30 fils qui montaient 30 ânons, et il possédait 30 villes qu’on appelle encore aujourd’hui les Douars-de-Yaïr, au pays de Galaad.
5 Jair died and was buried in Kamon.	5 Quand Yaïr mourut, on l’enterra à Kamon.
6 The Israelites again offended the LORD, serving the Baals and Ashtaroths, the gods of Aram, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites, and the gods of the Philistines. Since they had abandoned the LORD and would not serve him,	6 Les Israélites firent de nouveau ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahvé. Ils servirent les Baals et les Astartés, ainsi que les dieux d’Aram, de Sidon, de Moab, des Ammonites et des Philistins. Ils abandonnèrent Yahvé et ne le servirent plus.
7 the LORD became angry with Israel and allowed them to fall into the power of (the Philistines and) the Ammonites.	7 C’est pourquoi la colère de Yahvé s’enflamma contre Israël, il le livra aux mains des Philistins et des Ammonites.
8 For eighteen years they afflicted and oppressed the Israelites in Bashan, and all the Israelites in the Amorite land beyond the Jordan in Gilead.	8 Dès cette année-là ils écrasèrent et maltraitèrent tous les Israélites qui habitaient au-delà du Jourdain, dans le pays amorite, en Galaad, et cela dura 18 ans.
9 The Ammonites also crossed the Jordan to fight against Judah, Benjamin, and the house of Ephraim, so that Israel was in great distress.	9 Les Ammonites passèrent même le Jourdain pour combattre contre Juda, Benjamin et la maison d’Éphraïm: Israël était dans une très grande détresse.
10 Then the Israelites cried out to the LORD, "We have sinned against you; we have forsaken our God and have served the Baals."	10 Les Israélites crièrent donc vers Yahvé: “Nous avons péché contre toi, lui dirent-ils, nous avons abandonné notre Dieu et nous avons servi les Baals.”
11 The LORD answered the Israelites: "Did not the Egyptians, the Amorites, the Ammonites, the Philistines,	11 Yahvé répondit aux Israélites: “Quand vous avez été opprimés par les Égyptiens, les Amorites, les Ammonites, les Philistins,
12 the Sidonians, the Amalekites, and the Midianites oppress you? Yet when you cried out to me, and I saved you from their grasp,	12 les Sidoniens, les Amalécites ou les Madianites, et que vous avez crié vers moi, ne vous ai-je pas délivré de leurs mains?
13 you still forsook me and worshiped other gods. Therefore I will save you no more.	13 Mais vous, vous m’avez abandonné et vous avez servi d’autres dieux, c’est pourquoi je ne vous délivrerai plus.
14 Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen; let them save you now that you are in distress."	14 Allez maintenant crier vers les dieux que vous avez choisis, qu’ils vous délivrent quand les choses vont mal pour vous!”
15 But the Israelites said to the LORD, "We have sinned. Do to us whatever you please. Only save us this day."	15 Les Israélites dirent à Yahvé: “Nous avons péché, traite-nous comme il te semblera bon, mais au moins délivre-nous en ce jour.”
16 And they cast out the foreign gods from their midst and served the LORD, so that he grieved over the misery of Israel.	16 Ils firent disparaître de chez eux les dieux étrangers et ils servirent Yahvé. Alors Yahvé ne supporta pas davantage la souffrance d’Israël.
17 The Ammonites had gathered for war and encamped in Gilead, while the Israelites assembled and encamped in Mizpah.	17 Les Ammonites se rassemblèrent et installèrent leur camp en Galaad. Les Israélites se rassemblèrent aussi, et ils installèrent leur camp à Mispa.
18 And among the people the princes of Gilead said to one another, "The one who begins the war against the Ammonites shall be leader of all the inhabitants of Gilead."	18 Le peuple et les chefs de Galaad se dirent les uns aux autres: “Quel est l’homme qui engagera le combat contre les Ammonites? On le placera à la tête de tous les habitants de Galaad.”
