1 When we had taken leave of them we set sail, made a straight run for Cos, and on the next day for Rhodes, and from there to Patara.	1 Amikor azután elváltunk tőlük, kihajóztunk, és egyenes irányban haladva Kószba értünk, másnap Rodoszba, onnan pedig Patarába.
2 Finding a ship crossing to Phoenicia, we went on board and put out to sea.	2 Amikor találtunk egy Föníciába menő hajót, beszálltunk és továbbhajóztunk.
3 We caught sight of Cyprus but passed by it on our left and sailed on toward Syria and put in at Tyre where the ship was to unload cargo.	3 Mikor feltűnt előttünk Ciprus, azt bal felől haladva elhagytuk, aztán Szíriába hajóztunk, és eljutottunk Tíruszba, mert a hajó ott készült kirakni a rakományt.
4 There we sought out the disciples and stayed for a week. They kept telling Paul through the Spirit not to embark for Jerusalem.	4 Miután a tanítványokat megtaláltuk, ott maradtunk hét napig. Ők a Lélek által azt mondták Pálnak, hogy ne menjen fel Jeruzsálembe.
5 At the end of our stay we left and resumed our journey. All of them, women and children included, escorted us out of the city, and after kneeling on the beach to pray,	5 Néhány nap elteltével mégis elindultunk és továbbmentünk. 6 we bade farewell to one another. Then we boarded the ship, and they returned home.	6 Miután elbúcsúztunk egymástól, mi hajóra szálltunk, ők pedig visszatértek övéikhez.
7 We continued the voyage and came from Tyre to Ptolemais, where we greeted the brothers and stayed a day with them.	7 A hajóút befejezéseként lementünk Tíruszból Ptolemaiszba. Köszöntöttük a testvéreket, és egy napig náluk maradtunk.
8 On the next day we resumed the trip and came to Caesarea, where we went to the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the Seven, and stayed with him.	8 Másnap továbbmentünk, és Cézáreába érkeztünk. Itt betértünk Fülöp evangélista házába, és megszálltunk nála, aki a hét közül az egyik volt.
9 He had four virgin daughters gifted with prophecy.	9 Négy hajadon leánya volt, s ezek prófétáltak.
10 We had been there several days when a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea.	10 Amíg mi néhány napig időztünk, egy Agabusz nevű próféta érkezett oda Júdeából.
11 He came up to us, took Paul's belt, bound his own feet and hands with it, and said, "Thus says the holy Spirit: This is the way the Jews will bind the owner of this belt in Jerusalem, and they will hand him over to the Gentiles."	11 Odajött hozzánk, fogta Pál övét, megkötözte vele a saját lábát és kezét, és így szólt: »A Szentlélek ezeket mondja: Azt a férfit, akié ez az öv, a zsidók így kötözik meg Jeruzsálemben, és átadják a pogányok kezébe.«
12 When we heard this, we and the local residents begged him not to go up to Jerusalem.	12 Mikor ezt meghallottuk, mi is kértük őt, meg az ottaniak is, hogy ne menjen fel Jeruzsálembe.
13 Then Paul replied, "What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? I am prepared not only to be bound but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus."	13 De Pál így felelt: »Mit csináltok, miért sírtok és szomorítjátok a szívemet? Hiszen én kész vagyok az Úr Jézus nevéért nemcsak arra, hogy megkötözzenek, hanem hogy meg is haljak Jeruzsálemben.«
14 Since he would not be dissuaded we let the matter rest, saying, "The Lord's will be done."	14 S mivel nem tudtuk lebeszélni őt, megnyugodtunk, és így szóltunk: »Legyen meg az Úr akarata!«
15 After these days we made preparations for our journey, then went up to Jerusalem.	15 E napok után tehát útnak eredtünk, és felmentünk Jeruzsálembe.
16 Some of the disciples from Caesarea came along to lead us to the house of Mnason, a Cypriot, a disciple of long standing, with whom we were to stay.	16 Cézáreából a tanítványok közül is velünk tartottak néhányan. Magukkal hozták Mnázont, egy Ciprusról való régi tanítványt, hogy nála szálljunk meg.
17 When we reached Jerusalem the brothers welcomed us warmly.	17 Amikor Jeruzsálembe értünk, a testvérek szívesen fogadtak minket.
18 The next day, Paul accompanied us on a visit to James, and all the presbyters were present.	18 Másnap Pál velünk együtt bement Jakabhoz, és a presbiterek is mindnyájan összegyűltek.
19 He greeted them, then proceeded to tell them in detail what God had accomplished among the Gentiles through his ministry.	19 Miután köszöntötte őket, részletesen elmondta, mit művelt Isten a pogányok között az ő szolgálata által.
20 They praised God when they heard it but said to him, "Brother, you see how many thousands of believers there are from among the Jews, and they are all zealous observers of the law.	20 Azok pedig, miután meghallgatták, dicsőítették Istent, neki pedig azt mondták: »Nézd, testvér, sok ezren vannak a zsidók között, akik hívők lettek, de azért mind féltékenyen tartják a törvényt.
21 They have been informed that you are teaching all the Jews who live among the Gentiles to abandon Moses and that you are telling them not to circumcise their children or to observe their customary practices.	21 Rólad azonban azt hallották, hogy a Mózestől való elpártolásra tanítod azokat a zsidókat, akik a pogányok között vannak. Azt mondod nekik, hogy nem kell sem a fiaikat körülmetéltetniük, sem a szokásokat követniük.
22 What is to be done? They will surely hear that you have arrived.	22 Mi tehát a teendő? Elkerülhetetlen, hogy a tömeg össze ne csődüljön, ha meghallják, hogy megjöttél.
23 So do what we tell you. We have four men who have taken a vow.	23 Tedd meg tehát azt, amit mondunk neked. Van nálunk négy férfi, akik fogadalmat vettek magukra.
24 Take these men and purify yourself with them, and pay their expenses that they may have their heads shaved. In this way everyone will know that there is nothing to the reports they have been given about you but that you yourself live in observance of the law.	24 Vedd őket magad mellé, szentelődj meg velük, fizess helyettük, hogy megnyiratkozzanak. Akkor mindenki tudni fogja, hogy nem igaz, amit rólad hallottak; ellenkezőleg, te is megtartod a törvényt, és aszerint élsz.
25 As for the Gentiles who have come to believe, we sent them our decision that they abstain from meat sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals, and from unlawful marriage."	25 Ami pedig azokat illeti, akik a pogányok közül lettek hívők, mi megírtuk végzésünket, hogy tartózkodjanak a bálványoknak áldozott dolgoktól, a vértől, a fojtott állatoktól és a paráznaságtól.«
26 So Paul took the men, and on the next day after purifying himself together with them entered the temple to give notice of the day when the purification would be completed and the offering made for each of them.	26 Erre Pál maga mellé vette a férfiakat, másnap tisztulást végzett, velük együtt bement a templomba, és bejelentette, hogy a tisztulás napjai letelnek, amikor mindegyikükért bemutatják az áldozatot.
27 When the seven days were nearly completed, the Jews from the province of Asia noticed him in the temple, stirred up the whole crowd, and laid hands on him,	27 Mikor azonban a hét nap lassan már letelt, az Ázsiából való zsidók meglátták őt a templomban, fölizgatták az egész népet, és elfogták őt.
28 shouting, "Fellow Israelites, help us. This is the man who is teaching everyone everywhere against the people and the law and this place, and what is more, he has even brought Greeks into the temple and defiled this sacred place."	28 Közben ezt kiáltozták: »Izraelita férfiak! Segítsetek! Ez az az ember, aki a nép, a törvény és ez ellen a hely ellen tanít mindenkit mindenütt, sőt még pogányokat is behozott a templomba, és megfertőzte ezt a szent helyet!«
29 For they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian in the city with him and supposed that Paul had brought him into the temple.	29 Vele látták ugyanis az efezusi Trofimoszt a városban, s róla gondolták, hogy Pál bevitte a templomba.
30 The whole city was in turmoil with people rushing together. They seized Paul and dragged him out of the temple, and immediately the gates were closed.	30 Meg is mozdult az egész város. A nép összecsődült, megragadták Pált, és kihurcolták a templomból, a kapukat pedig azonnal bezárták.
31 While they were trying to kill him, a report reached the cohort commander that all Jerusalem was rioting.	31 Mikor már azon voltak, hogy megöljék őt, az a hír jutott el a helyőrség ezredeséhez, hogy egész Jeruzsálem zavargásban tört ki.
32 He immediately took soldiers and centurions and charged down on them. When they saw the commander and the soldiers they stopped beating Paul.	32 Az mindjárt katonákat és századosokat vett maga mellé, és lesietett hozzájuk. Azok pedig, amikor meglátták az ezredest és a katonákat, abbahagyták Pál ütlegelését.
33 The cohort commander came forward, arrested him, and ordered him to be secured with two chains; he tried to find out who he might be and what he had done.	33 Ekkor az ezredes odalépett, megfogta őt, és megkötöztette két lánccal. Aztán megkérdezte, hogy kicsoda ez, és mit tett.
34 Some in the mob shouted one thing, others something else; so, since he was unable to ascertain the truth because of the uproar, he ordered Paul to be brought into the compound.	34 De a tömegből az egyik ember ezt, másik azt kiabált, s mivel pontosan nem tudott tájékozódni a zajongás miatt, a várba vitette őt.
35 When he reached the steps, he was carried by the soldiers because of the violence of the mob,	35 Amikor azonban a lépcsőkhöz jutott, történt, hogy a nép erőszakossága miatt a katonáknak már vinniük kellett.
36 for a crowd of people followed and shouted, "Away with him!"	36 A népsokaság ugyanis utána tódult, és azt kiáltozta: »Öld meg őt!«
37 Just as Paul was about to be taken into the compound, he said to the cohort commander, "May I say something to you?" He replied, "Do you speak Greek?	37 Amikor már a várba készültek bevezetni Pált, ő így szólt az ezredeshez: »Szabad-e valamit mondanom neked?« Az megkérdezte: »Te tudsz görögül?
38 So then you are not the Egyptian who started a revolt some time ago and led the four thousand assassins into the desert?"	38 Nem te vagy az az egyiptomi, nem te keltettél a napokban zavargást, s kivezettél a pusztába négyezer szikárius férfit?«
39 Paul answered, "I am a Jew, of Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city; I request you to permit me to speak to the people."	39 Pál azonban azt mondta neki: »Én zsidó ember vagyok a cilíciai Tarzusból, annak az ismert városnak vagyok a polgára. Kérlek azonban, engedd meg nekem, hogy szóljak a néphez!«
40 When he had given his permission, Paul stood on the steps and motioned with his hand to the people; and when all was quiet he addressed them in Hebrew.	40 Mikor az megadta az engedélyt, Pál a lépcsőkön állva intett a népnek a kezével. Erre nagy csendesség lett. Ő pedig megszólalt zsidó nyelven, és ezt mondta:
