1 Woe to the bloody city, all lies, full of plunder, whose looting never stops!	1 Guai a te, città di sangue; tu, bugiarda, piena di dilacerazione; e non si partirà da te la rapina.
2 The crack of the whip, the rumbling sounds of wheels; horses a-gallop, chariots bounding,	2 La voce del flagello, e la voce dell' impeto della ruota, e del cavallo resonante, e del carro stridente, e del cavalcatore salente (a cavallo),
3 Cavalry charging, The flame of the sword, the flash of the spear, the many slain, the heaping corpses, the endless bodies to stumble upon!	3 e dello lucente coltello, e dell' asta folgorante, e della moltitudine uccisa, e della grande rovina; e non è fine de' corpi morti, e cadranno ne' corpi loro.
4 For the many debaucheries of the harlot, fair and charming, a mistress of witchcraft, Who enslaved nations with her harlotries, and peoples by her witchcraft:	4 Per la moltitudine delle fornicazioni della bella e graziosa meretrice, la quale ha i maleficii, e hae venduto le genti nelle sue fornicazioni, e le famiglie ne' suoi maleficii;
5 I am come against you, and I will strip your skirt from you; I will show your nakedness to the nations, to the kingdoms your shame!	5 ecco io vegno a te, dice il Signore delli esèrciti, e scoprirò le tue disonestadi nella faccia tua, e mostrerò alle genti la nudità tua, e a' reami la (vergogna e) il vituperio tuo.
6 I will cast filth upon you, disgrace you and put you to shame;	6 E gitterò sopra te le abominazioni, e affliggerò te colle contumelie, (cioè con parole ingiuriose e vituperose), e porrotti in esempio.
7 Till everyone who sees you runs from you, saying, "Nineveh is destroyed; who can pity her? Where can one find any to console her?"	7 E sarà che ogni uomo, che ti vedrà, sì ritornerà dirietro da te, e dirà: guasta è Ninive; chi commoverà sopra te il capo? onde (di che luogo) cercherò a te consolatore?
8 Are you better than No-amon that was set among the streams, Surrounded by waters, with the flood for her rampart and water her wall?	8 Or se' tu migliore che Alessandria, la quale ebbe di sotto da sè molti popoli, la quale abita nei fiumi? le acque sono nel circuito suo, alla quale vengono per mare le ricchezze, e l'acque sono le mura sue.
9 Ethiopia was her strength, and Egypt, and others without end; Put and the Libyans were her auxiliaries.	9 Etiopia e l'Egitto sono la fortezza sua, e non ha fine (la fortezza sua, e non ha fine la fortezza e la ricchezza sua); Africa e Libia furono in tuo adiutorio (cioè d'Alessandria).
10 Yet even she went captive into exile, even her little ones were dashed to pieces at the corner of every street; For her nobles they cast lots, and all her great men were put into chains.	10 Ma ella fu menata in transmigrazione in prigione; i parvoli suoi furono percossi in capo di tutte le vie, e sopra i nobil? cittadini suoi misono le sorti, e tutti i migliori e più degni furono messi co' piedi nelli ceppi (e nelli ferri).
11 You too, shall drink of this till you faint away; you, too, shall seek a refuge from the foe.	11 E tu adunque sarai inebriata, e sarai dispetta; e domanderai adiutorio dal nimico.
12 All your fortresses are but fig trees, bearing early figs That fall, when shaken, into the hungry mouth.	12 Tutte le munizioni (e le fortezze) tue saranno come il fico coi fichi suoi primaticci; li quali sì saranno scossi, e cadranno nella bocca di colui che gli mangia.
13 See, the troops are women in your midst; to your foes the gates of your land are open wide, fire has consumed their bars.	13 Ecco, il popolo tuo diventerà vile come le femmine nel mezzo di te; le porte della terra tua saranno aperte alli nimici tuoi; il fuoco divorerà li chiavistelli tuoi.
14 Draw water for the siege, strengthen your fortresses; Go down into the mud and tread the clay, take hold of the brick mold!	14 Attigniti l'acqua per l'assedio, ed edifica le fortezze tue; entra nel luto, e calcalo; e commettendolo sotto i piedi, fanne mattoni.
15 There the fire shall consume you, the sword shall cut you down. Multiply like the grasshoppers, multiply like the locusts!	15 Qui ti mangerà il fuoco, e perirai di coltello; e divoreratti come è divorato il bruco; raccogliti insieme come fa il bruco, e multiplica come il grillo.
16 Make your couriers more numerous than the stars,	16 Tu hai fatti più traffichi, che non sono le stelle del cielo; il bruco [si] sparse, e volò.
17 your garrisons as many as grasshoppers, And your scribes as locust swarms gathered on the rubble fences on a cold day! Yet when the sun warms them, the grasshoppers will spread their wings and fly, and vanish, no one knows where.	17 Le guardie tue sono come grilli; i parvoli tuoi sono come li figliuoli de' grilli, i quali si stanno nelle siepi nel dì del freddo; levossi il sole, e loro volarono, e non fu conosciuto il luogo loro dove fussono stati.
18 Alas! how your shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria, your nobles have gone to rest; Your people are scattered upon the mountains, with none to gather them.	18 I tuoi pastori, o re d' Assur, si sono addormentati; e' tuoi principi saranno sepolti; il tuo popolo s'è nascoso ne' monti, e non è chi lo raduni.
19 There is no healing for your hurt, your wound is mortal. All who hear this news of you clap their hands over you; For who has not been overwhelmed, steadily, by your malice?	19 Non è oscura la distruzione tua; pessima è la piaga tua; tutti coloro che hanno udito quello che si dice di te, hanno premuta la mano sopra di te; però che sopra cui non è sempre passata la malizia tua?
