NEW AMERICAN BIBLE | KING JAMES BIBLE |
---|---|
Why do the nations protest and the peoples grumble in vain? | 1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? |
Kings on earth rise up and princes plot together against the LORD and his anointed: | 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, |
"Let us break their shackles and cast off their chains!" | 3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. |
The one enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord derides them, | 4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. |
Then speaks to them in anger, terrifies them in wrath: | 5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. |
"I myself have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain." | 6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. |
I will proclaim the decree of the LORD, who said to me, "You are my son; today I am your father. | 7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. |
Only ask it of me, and I will make your inheritance the nations, your possession the ends of the earth. | 8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. |
With an iron rod you shall shepherd them, like a clay pot you will shatter them." | 9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. |
And now, kings, give heed; take warning, rulers on earth. | 10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. |
Serve the LORD with fear; with trembling bow down in homage, Lest God be angry and you perish from the way in a sudden blaze of anger. Happy are all who take refuge in God! | 11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. |
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. |
