NEW AMERICAN BIBLEDOUAI-RHEIMS
A song of ascents. Of Solomon. Unless the LORD build the house, they labor in vain who build. Unless the LORD guard the city, in vain does the guard keep watch.1 When the lord brought back the captivity of Sion, we became like men comforted.
It is vain for you to rise early and put off your rest at night, To eat bread earned by hard toil-- all this God gives to his beloved in sleep.2 Then was our mouth filled with gladness; and our tongue with joy. Then shall they say among the Gentiles: The Lord hath done great things for them.
Children too are a gift from the LORD, the fruit of the womb, a reward.3 The Lord hath done great things for us: we are become joyful.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children born in one's youth.4 Turn again our captivity, O Lord, as a stream in the south.
Blessed are they whose quivers are full. They will never be shamed contending with foes at the gate.5 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.
Going they went and wept, casting their seeds.
But coming they shall come with joyfulness, carrying their sheaves.
