1 Joash was seven years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother, named Zibiah, was from Beer-sheba.	1 Ed era Ioas di sette anni quando cominciò a regnare; e XL anni regnò in Ierusalem; il nome della madre fu Sebia di Bersabee.
2 Joash did what was pleasing to the LORD as long as Jehoiada the priest lived.	2 E fece bene nel cospetto di Dio, tutto il tempo di Ioiada sacerdote.
3 Jehoiada provided him with two wives, and he became the father of sons and daughters.	3 E tolse Ioas due moglie, delle quali generò figliuoli e figliuole.
4 After some time, Joash decided to restore the LORD'S temple.	4 Dopo le quali cose piacque a Ioas di rifare la casa di Dio.
5 He called together the priests and Levites and said to them: "Go out to all the cities of Judah and collect money from all Israel that you may repair the house of your God over the years. You must hasten this affair." But the Levites did not hasten.	5 E congregò sacerdoti e Leviti, e disse loro: andate a tutte le città di Giuda, e ricogliete là da tutto Israel, per riconciare il tempio, moneta; e ciò fate ogni anno, e fatel tosto. E i Leviti fecero questo negligentemente.
6 Then the king summoned Jehoiada, who was in charge, and said to him: "Why have you not required the Levites to bring in from Judah and Jerusalem the tax levied by Moses, the servant of the LORD, and by the assembly of Israel, for the tent of the testimony?"	6 E il re di Giuda chiamò Ioiada principe, e dissegli perchè non hai tu avuto cura di costringere i Leviti a raccogliere di Giuda [e di Ierusalem] la moneta (a restaurazione del tempio), la quale ordinoe Moisè servo di Dio, che tutta la moltitudine d' Israel la recasse nel tabernacolo del testimonio?
7 For the wicked Athaliah and her sons had damaged the house of God and had even turned over to the Baals the dedicated resources of the LORD'S temple.	7 Però che Atalia empiissima, e' suoi figliuoli, disfeceno la casa (del tempio) di Dio; e di tutte quelle cose, le quali erano consecrate al tempio del Signore, avea ornato il tempio di Baalim.
8 At the king's command, therefore, they made a chest, which they put outside the gate of the LORD'S temple.	8 E comandò il re, e feciono una arca; e puoserla presso alla porta del Signore di fuori.
9 They had it proclaimed throughout Judah and Jerusalem that the tax which Moses, the servant of God, had imposed on Israel in the desert should be brought to the LORD.	9 E fu predicato in Giuda e in Ierusalem, che ciascuno portasse al Signore quello prezzo, il quale ordinò Moisè servo di Dio sopra tutto Israel nel deserto.
10 All the princes and the people rejoiced; they brought what was asked and cast it into the chest until it was filled.	10 E tutti i prìncipi e tutto il popolo si rallegrarono; ed entrando diedono e misono nell' arca del Signore, sì che fu piena.
11 Whenever the chest was brought to the royal officials by the Levites and they saw that it contained much money, the royal scribe and an overseer for the high priest came, emptied the chest, then took it back and returned it to its place. This they did day after day until they had collected a large sum of money.	11 Ed essendo il tempo da portare l'arca per mano de' Leviti dinanzi al re; però che vedeano (che ivi entrava) molta pecunia; entrava il notaio del re, e quello ch' era ordinato [dal] primo sacerdote; vuotavano la moneta la quale era nell' arca, e l'arca riportavano al luogo suo; e così facevano ogni dì, e fu raunata infinita pecunia.
12 Then the king and Jehoiada gave it to the workmen in charge of the labor on the LORD'S temple, who hired masons and carpenters to restore the temple, and also iron-and bronze-smiths to repair it.	12 La quale il re e Ioiada diedono a quelli ch' erano soprastanti all' opera della casa del Signore; e coloro di quella conduceano i maestri tagliatori di pietre, e artefici d'ogni lavorio, a restaurare il tempio di Dio, e fabri di ferro e di metallo, acciò che quello ch' era cominciato a cadere fosse racconcio.
13 The workmen labored, and the task of restoration progressed under their hands. They restored the house of God according to its original form, and reinforced it.	13 E quelli che operavano feciono con prudenza; e le rompiture delle mura veniano [chiuse] per le loro mani; e suscitarono la casa del Signore nel primo stato, e fecerla stare ferma.
14 After they had finished, they brought the rest of the money to the king and to Jehoiada, who had it made into utensils for the LORD'S temple, utensils for the service and the holocausts, and basins and other gold and silver utensils. They offered holocausts in the LORD'S temple continually throughout the lifetime of Jehoiada.	14 E compiute tutte l' opere, riportoro dinanzi al re e a Ioiada tutta l'altra parte della moneta; della quale fecero fare vasa per lo tempio al ministerio dello olocausto, e ampolle, e tutte l'altre vasa d'oro e d'ariento; e offereansi nella casa di Dio gli olocausti continuamente tutto il tempo di Ioiada.
15 Jehoiada lived to a ripe old age; he was a hundred and thirty years old when he died.	15 E Ioiada pieno di die invecchiò; ed essendo di CXXX anni (invecchiò e) morì.
16 He was buried in the City of David with the kings, because he had done good in Israel, in particular with respect to God and his temple.	16 E seppellironlo nella città di David con esso i re, però che avea ben fatto con Israel e con la casa sua.
17 After the death of Jehoiada, the princes of Judah came and paid homage to the king, and the king then listened to them.	17 E da poi che morì Ioiada, i prìncipi di Giuda entrarono al re, e adoraronlo; il qual (era) consolato alle parole loro, consentì a loro.
18 They forsook the temple of the LORD, the God of their fathers, and began to serve the sacred poles and the idols; and because of this crime of theirs, wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem.	18 E lasciaronlo, cioè il tempio dello Signore Iddio de' padri loro, e servirono a' boschi e agl' idoli; per la quale cagione fu fatta l'ira (di Dio) sopra Giuda e sopra Ierusalem.
19 Although prophets were sent to them to convert them to the LORD, the people would not listen to their warnings.	19 E mandava loro i profeti, acciò che ritornassero al Signore; ma egli non gli vollero intendere.
20 Then the spirit of God possessed Zechariah, son of Jehoiada the priest. He took his stand above the people and said to them: "God says, 'Why are you transgressing the LORD'S commands, so that you cannot prosper? Because you have abandoned the LORD, he has abandoned you.'"	20 Onde lo spirito di Dio uscìo a Zacaria, figliuolo di Ioiada sacerdote, il quale istette nel cospetto del popolo, e disse loro: questo dice il Signore: perchè passate voi il comandamento del Signore, la quale cosa non vi farà pro', e avete lasciato il Signore acciò che egli lasci voi?
21 But they conspired against him, and at the king's order they stoned him to death in the court of the LORD'S temple.	21 Li quali raunati [contra lui] gittarono le pietre, secondo il comandamento del re, nelle case della casa di Dio.
22 Thus King Joash was unmindful of the devotion shown him by Jehoiada, Zechariah's father, and slew his son. And as he was dying, he said, "May the LORD see and avenge."	22 E non si ricordò il re Ioas della misericordia, la quale avea fatta con esso lui Ioiada suo padre; ma uccise il suo figliuolo. Il quale morendo disse: il Signore il veggia e ricerchi.
23 At the turn of the year a force of Arameans came up against Joash. They invaded Judah and Jerusalem, did away with all the princes of the people, and sent all their spoil to the king of Damascus.	23 E rivoluto l'anno, ascendette lo esercito di Siria contra a lui; e venne in Giuda e in Ierusalem, e uccise tutti i prìncipi del popolo, e tutta la preda mandò al re in Damasco.
24 Though the Aramean force came with few men, the LORD surrendered a very large force into their power, because Judah had abandoned the LORD, the God of their fathers. So punishment was meted out to Joash.	24 E certo, essendo venuto piccolo numero di Sirii, il Signore diede nelle loro mani infinita moltidine, però che aveano lasciato il Signore Iddio dei padri loro; e contro a Ioas fecero vituperosi giudicii.
25 After the Arameans had departed from him, leaving him in grievous suffering, his servants conspired against him because of the murder of the son of Jehoiada the priest. They killed him on his sickbed. He was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.	25 E partendosi, lasciaronlo in grande malattia; e levaronsi contra lui i servi suoi in vendetta del sangue del figliuolo di Ioiada sacerdote, e ucciserlo in su il letto suo; e seppellironlo nella città di David, ma non nelle sepolture dei re.
26 These conspired against him: Zabad, son of Shimeath from Ammon, and Jehozabad, son of Shimrith from Moab.	26 E puosergli agguati Zabad figliuolo di Semmaat Ammanitide, e Iozabad figliuolo di Semarit di Moab.
27 Of his sons, and the great tribute imposed on him, and of his rebuilding of the house of God, there is a written account in the midrash of the book of the kings. His son Amaziah succeeded him as king.	27 E i suoi figliuoli, e la somma della pecunia la qual era congregata al suo tempo, e la restaurazione della casa di Dio, sono scritte più diligentemente nel libro de' re; e (dopo lui) regnò per lui Amasia suo figliuolo.
