1 Upon Azariah, son of Oded, came the spirit of God.	1 Azaria figliuolo di Obed, fatto in lui lo spirito di Dio,
2 He went forth to meet Asa and said to him: "Hear me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin! The LORD is with you when you are with him, and if you seek him he will be present to you; but if you abandon him, he will abandon you.	2 uscio incontro ad Asa, e disse a lui: uditemi, Asa e tutto Giuda e Beniamin: il Signore è con voi, però che voi siete istati con lui; se voi il domanderete, troveretelo; e se voi lascerete lui, egli lascerà voi.
3 For a long time Israel had no true God, no priest-teacher and no law,	3 E passeranno molti die in Israel senza il vero Iddio, e senza maestro (prete ovvero) sacerdote, senza legge.
4 but when in their distress they turned to the LORD, the God of Israel, and sought him, he was present to them.	4 E ritornati loro nella sua angoscia al Signore Iddio d' Israel, domandoro lui, e trovaronlo.
5 In that former time there was no peace for anyone to go or come, but there were many terrors upon the inhabitants of the lands.	5 In quello tempo non sarà pace d' entrare e d' uscire, ma saranno paure e terrori dintorno in tutti gli abitatori della terra.
6 Nation crushed nation and city crushed city, for God destroyed them by every kind of adversity.	6 Però che combatterà gente contra gente, e città contra città; però che il Signore gli conturberà in ogni angoscia.
7 But as for you, be strong and do not relax, for your work shall be rewarded."	7 Però voi vi confortate, e le vostre mani non si dissolvano; chè la vostra opera avrà mercede.
8 When Asa heard these words and the prophecy (Oded the prophet), he was encouraged to remove the detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities he had taken in the highlands of Ephraim, and to restore the altar of the LORD which was before the vestibule of the LORD.	8 La quale cosa udita Asa, cioè le parole e la profezia di Azaria figliuolo di Obed profeta, confortossi, e tolse via gl' idoli di tutta la terra di Giuda e di Beniamin e delle città ch' egli avea prese del monte d'Efraim; e consecroe l' altare del Signore, il qual era dinanzi al portico del Signore.
9 Then he convened all Judah and Benjamin, together with those of Ephraim, Manasseh and Simeon who sojourned with them; for many had fled to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD, his God, was with him.	9 E congregò tutto Giuda e Beniamin, e di quelli ch' erano forestieri di Efraim e di Manasse e di Simeone; però che molti erano rifuggiti a lui di quelli d' Israel, vcggendo che il Signore Iddio era con esso lui.
10 They gathered at Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa's reign,	10 E venuti in Ierusalem nel terzo mese, nel XV anno del regno di Asa,
11 and sacrificed to the LORD at that time seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep of the booty they had brought.	11 offerirono a Dio in quello di degli ornamenti, e della preda la quale aveano menata, settecento buoi, e VII milia montoni.
12 They entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul;	12 Ed entrò, sì come era usanza, a rifermare il patto, cioè ch' egli seguitassono il Signore Iddio de' padri loro con tutto il cuore e con tutta l'anima loro.
13 and everyone who would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.	13 E disse qualunque non seguiterà il Signore Iddio d' Israel, sia morto, dal minore insino al maggiore, dall' uomo insino alla femina.
14 They swore to the LORD with a loud voice, with shouting and with trumpets and horns.	14 E giurarono a Dio con grande voce, con canto e suono di tromba e di corno,
15 All Judah rejoiced over the oath, for they had sworn with their whole heart and sought him with complete desire, so that he was present to them. And the LORD gave them rest on every side.	15 tutti quelli ch' erano in Giuda con prieghi; e con tutto loro cuore giurarono, e in tutta la loro volontade cercarono Iddio, e trovaronlo; e Iddio li prestò riposo dintorno.
16 Maacah, the mother of King Asa, he deposed as queen mother because she had made an outrageous object for Asherah; Asa cut this down, smashed it, and burnt it in the Kidron Valley.	16 E Asa depose dello imperio Maaca sua madre, però che avea fatto nel bosco l'idolo di Priapo; il quale egli disfece tutto, e arselo nel fiume Cedron.
17 Although the high places did not disappear from Israel, yet Asa's heart was undivided as long as he lived.	17 E furono lasciati in Israel tutti i luoghi alti; ed era il cuore d' Asa perfetto tutti gli dì suoi.
18 He brought into the house of God his father's votive offerings and his own: silver, gold, and various utensils.	18 E quelle cose che avea voluto il padre suo, egli diede nel tempio del Signore, oro e ariento, e diverse massarizie di vasi.
19 There was no war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa's reign.	19 E non ebbe guerra insino a' trenta anni del regno di Asa.
