1 Kings 22

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 Three years passed without war between Aram and Israel.	1 On fut tranquille pendant trois ans, sans combat entre Aram et Israël.
2 In the third year, however, King Jehoshaphat of Judah came down to the king of Israel,	2 La troisième année, Josaphat, roi de Juda, vint visiter le roi d'Israël.
3 who said to his servants, "Do you not know that Ramoth-gilead is ours and we are doing nothing to take it from the king of Aram?"	3 Le roi d'Israël dit à ses officiers: "Vous savez bien que Ramot de Galaad est à nous, et nous nefaisons rien pour l'arracher des mains du roi d'Aram."
4 He asked Jehoshaphat, "Will you come with me to fight against Ramoth-gilead?" Jehoshaphat answered the king of Israel, "You and I are as one, and your people and my people, your horses and my horses as well."	4 Il dit à Josaphat: "Viendras-tu avec moi combattre à Ramot de Galaad?" Josaphat répondit au roid'Israël: "Il en sera pour moi comme pour toi, pour mes gens comme pour tes gens, pour mes chevaux commepour tes chevaux."
5 Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel, "Seek the word of the LORD at once."	5 Cependant Josaphat dit au roi d'Israël: "Je te prie, consulte d'abord la parole de Yahvé."
6 The king of Israel gathered together the prophets, about four hundred of them, and asked, "Shall I go to attack Ramoth-gilead or shall I refrain?" "Go up," they answered. "The LORD will deliver it over to the king."	6 Le roi d'Israël rassembla les prophètes au nombre d'environ 400, et leur demanda: "Dois-je allerattaquer Ramot de Galaad, ou dois-je y renoncer?" Ils répondirent: "Monte, Yahvé la livrera aux mains du roi."
7 But Jehoshaphat said, "Is there no other prophet of the LORD here whom we may consult?"	7 Mais Josaphat dit: "N'y a-t-il donc ici aucun autre prophète de Yahvé, par qui nous puissions leconsulter?"
8 The king of Israel answered, "There is one other through whom we might consult the LORD, Micaiah, son of Imlah; but I hate him because he prophesies not good but evil about me." Jehoshaphat said, "Let not your majesty speak of evil against you."	8 Le roi d'Israël répondit à Josaphat: "Il y a encore un homme par qui on peut consulter Yahvé, maisje le hais, car il ne prophétise jamais le bien à mon sujet, rien que le mal, c'est Michée fils de Yimla." Josaphatdit: "Que le roi ne parle pas ainsi!"
9 So the king of Israel called an official and said to him, "Get Micaiah, son of Imlah, at once."	9 Le roi d'Israël appela un eunuque et dit: "Fais vite venir Michée fils de Yimla."
10 The king of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah were seated, each on his throne, clothed in their robes of state on a threshing floor at the entrance of the gate of Samaria, and all the prophets were prophesying before them.	10 Le roi d'Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, étaient assis chacun sur son siège, en grand costume, surl'aire devant la porte de Samarie, et tous les prophètes se livraient à leurs transports devant eux.
11 Zedekiah, son of Chenaanah, made himself horns of iron and said, "The LORD says, 'With these you shall gore Aram until you have destroyed them.'"	11 Sédécias fils de Kenaana se fit des cornes de fer et dit: "Ainsi parle Yahvé. Avec cela tuencorneras les Araméens jusqu'au dernier."
12 The other prophets prophesied in a similar vein, saying: "Go up to Ramoth-gilead; you shall succeed. The LORD will deliver it over to the king."	12 Et tous les prophètes faisaient la même prédiction, disant: "Monte à Ramot de Galaad! Turéussiras, Yahvé la livrera aux mains du roi."
13 The messenger who had gone to call Micaiah said to him, "Look now, the prophets are unanimously predicting good for the king. Let your word be the same as any of theirs; predict good."	13 Le messager qui était allé chercher Michée lui dit: Voici que les prophètes n'ont qu'une seulebouche pour parler en faveur du roi. Tâche de parler comme l'un d'eux et prédis le succès."
14 "As the LORD lives," Micaiah answered, "I shall say whatever the LORD tells me."	14 Mais Michée répondit: "Par Yahvé vivant! Ce que Yahvé me dira, c'est cela que j'énoncerai!"
15 When he came to the king, the king said to him, "Micaiah, shall we go to fight against Ramoth-gilead, or shall we refrain?" "Go up," he answered, "you shall succeed! The LORD will deliver it over to the king."	15 Il arriva près du roi, et le roi lui demanda: "Michée, devons-nous aller à Ramot de Galaad pourcombattre, ou devons-nous y renoncer?" Il lui répondit: "Monte! Tu réussiras. Yahvé la livrera aux mains duroi."
16 But the king answered him, "How many times must I adjure you to tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD?"	16 Mais le roi lui dit: "Combien de fois me faudra-t-il t'adjurer de ne me dire que la vérité au nom deYahvé?"
17 So Micaiah said: "I see all Israel scattered on the mountains, like sheep without a shepherd, and the LORD saying, 'These have no master! Let each of them go back home in peace.'"	17 Alors il prononça: "J'ai vu tout Israël dispersé sur les montagnes comme un troupeau sans pasteur.Et Yahvé a dit: Ils n'ont plus de maître, que chacun retourne en paix chez soi!"
18 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "Did I not tell you he prophesies not good but evil about me?"	18 Le roi d'Israël dit alors à Josaphat: "Ne t'avais-je pas dit qu'il prophétisait pour moi non le bienmais le mal!"
19 Micaiah continued: "Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD seated on his throne, with the whole host of heaven standing by to his right and to his left.	19 Michée reprit: "Ecoute plutôt la parole de Yahvé. J'ai vu Yahvé assis sur son trône; toute l'arméedu ciel se tenait en sa présence, à sa droite et à sa gauche.
20 The LORD asked, 'Who will deceive Ahab, so that he will go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?' And one said this, another that,	20 Yahvé demanda: Qui trompera Achab pour qu'il marche contre Ramot de Galaad et qu'il ysuccombe? Ils répondirent celui-ci d'une manière, celui-là d'une autre.
21 until one of the spirits came forth and presented himself to the LORD, saying, 'I will deceive him.' The LORD asked, 'How?'	21 Alors l'Esprit s'avança et se tint devant Yahvé: C'est moi, dit-il, qui le tromperai. Yahvé luidemanda: Comment?
22 He answered, 'I will go forth and become a lying spirit in the mouths of all his prophets.' The LORD replied, 'You shall succeed in deceiving him. Go forth and do this.'	22 Il répondit: J'irai et je me ferai esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous ses prophètes. Yahvé dit:Tu le tromperas, tu réussiras. Va et fais ainsi.
23 So now, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of all these prophets of yours, but the LORD himself has decreed evil against you."	23 Voici donc que Yahvé a mis un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous tes prophètes qui sontlà, mais Yahvé a prononcé contre toi le malheur."
24 Thereupon Zedekiah, son of Chenaanah, came up and slapped Micaiah on the cheek, saying, "Has the spirit of the LORD, then, left me to speak with you?"	24 Alors Sédécias fils de Kenaana s'approcha et frappa Michée à la mâchoire, en disant: "Par oùl'esprit de Yahvé m'a-t-il quitté pour te parler?"
25 "You shall find out," Micaiah replied, "on that day when you retreat into an inside room to hide."	25 Michée repartit: "C'est ce que tu verras, le jour où tu fuiras dans une chambre retirée pour tecacher."
26 The king of Israel then said, "Seize Micaiah and take him back to Amon, prefect of the city, and to Joash, the king's son,	26 Le roi d'Israël ordonna: "Saisis Michée et remets-le à Amôn, gouverneur de la ville, et au fils duroi, Yoash.
27 and say, 'This is the king's order: Put this man in prison and feed him scanty rations of bread and water until I return in safety.'"	27 Tu leur diras: Ainsi parle le roi. Mettez cet homme en prison et nourrissez-le strictement de pain etd'eau jusqu'à ce que je revienne sain et sauf."
28 But Micaiah said, "If ever you return in safety, the LORD has not spoken through me."	28 Michée dit: "Si tu reviens sain et sauf, c'est que Yahvé n'a pas parlé par ma bouche."
29 The king of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead,	29 Le roi d'Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, montèrent contre Ramot de Galaad.
30 and the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "I will disguise myself and go into battle, but you put on your own clothes." So the king of Israel disguised himself and entered the fray.	30 Le roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat: "Je me déguiserai pour marcher au combat, mais toi, revêts toncostume!" Le roi d'Israël se déguisa et marcha au combat.
31 In the meantime the king of Aram had given his thirty-two chariot commanders the order, "Do not fight with anyone at all except the king of Israel."	31 Le roi d'Aram avait donné cet ordre à ses commandants de chars: "Vous n'attaquerez ni petit nigrand, mais seulement le roi d'Israël."
32 When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they cried out, "That must be the king of Israel!" and shifted to fight him. But Jehoshaphat shouted his battle cry,	32 Lorsque les commandants de chars virent Josaphat, ils dirent: "C'est sûrement le roi d'Israël", et ilsdirigèrent le combat de son côté; mais Josaphat poussa son cri de guerre
33 and the chariot commanders, aware that he was not the king of Israel, gave up pursuit of him.	33 et, lorsque les commandants de chars virent que ce n'était pas le roi d'Israël, ils s'éloignèrent de lui.
34 Someone, however, drew his bow at random, and hit the king of Israel between the joints of his breastplate. He ordered his charioteer, "Rein about and take me out of the ranks, for I am disabled."	34 Or un homme banda son arc sans savoir qui il visait et atteignit le roi d'Israël entre le corselet et lesappliques de la cuirasse. Celui-ci dit à son charrier: "Tourne bride et fais-moi sortir de la mêlée, car je me sensmal."
35 The battle grew fierce during the day, and the king, who was propped up in his chariot facing the Arameans, died in the evening. The blood from his wound flowed to the bottom of the chariot.	35 Mais le combat devint plus violent ce jour-là, on soutint le roi debout sur son char en face desAraméens, et le soir il mourut; le sang de sa blessure coulait dans le fond du char.
36 At sunset a cry went through the army, "Every man to his city, every man to his land,	36 Au coucher du soleil, un cri se répandit dans le camp: "Chacun à sa ville et chacun à son pays!
37 for the king is dead!" So they went to Samaria, where they buried the king.	37 Le roi est mort." On alla à Samarie et on enterra le roi à Samarie.
38 When the chariot was washed at the pool of Samaria, the dogs licked up his blood and harlots bathed there, as the LORD had prophesied.	38 On lava à grande eau son char à l'étang de Samarie, les chiens lapèrent le sang et les prostituées s'ybaignèrent, selon la parole que Yahvé avait dite.
39 The rest of the acts of Ahab, with all that he did, including the ivory palace and all the cities he built, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.	39 Le reste de l'histoire d'Achab, tout ce qu'il a fait, la maison d'ivoire qu'il construisit, toutes lesvilles qu'il bâtit, cela n'est-il pas écrit au livre des Annales des rois d'Israël?
40 Ahab rested with his ancestors, and his son Ahaziah succeeded him as king.	40 Achab se coucha avec ses pères et son fils Ochozias régna à sa place.
41 Jehoshaphat, son of Asa, began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab, king of Israel.	41 Josaphat fils d'Asa devint roi sur Juda en la quatrième année d'Achab, roi d'Israël.
42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Azubah, daughter of Shilhi.	42 Josaphat avait 35 ans à son avènement et il régna 25 ans à Jérusalem; sa mère s'appelait Azuba,fille de Shilhi.
43 He followed all the ways of his father Asa unswervingly, doing what was right in the LORD'S sight.	43 Il suivit entièrement la conduite de son père Asa, sans dévier, faisant ce qui est juste au regard deYahvé.
44 Nevertheless, the high places did not disappear, and the people continued to sacrifice and to burn incense on the high places.	44 Seulement, les hauts lieux ne disparurent pas; le peuple continua d'offrir des sacrifices et del'encens sur les hauts lieux.
45 Jehoshaphat also made peace with the king of Israel.	45 Josaphat fut en paix avec le roi d'Israël.
46 The rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, with his prowess, what he did and how he fought, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah.	46 Le reste de l'histoire de Josaphat, la vaillance qu'il déploya et les guerres qu'il livra, cela n'est-il pasécrit au livre des Annales des rois de Juda?
47 He removed from the land the rest of the cult prostitutes who had remained in the reign of his father Asa.	47 Le reste des prostitués sacrés qui avaient subsisté au temps de son père Asa, il les fit disparaître dupays.
48 There was no king in Edom, but an appointed regent.	48 Il n'y avait pas de roi établi sur Edom, et le roi
49 Jehoshaphat made Tarshish ships to go to Ophir for gold; but in fact the ships did not go, because they were wrecked at Ezion-geber.	49 Josaphat construisit des vaisseaux de Tarsis pour aller chercher l'or à Ophir, mais il ne put y aller,car les vaisseaux se brisèrent à Eçyôn-Gébèr.
50 Then Ahaziah, son of Ahab, said to Jehoshaphat, "Let my servants accompany your servants in the ships." But Jehoshaphat would not agree.	50 Alors Ochozias fils d'Achab dit à Josaphat: "Mes serviteurs iront avec tes serviteurs sur lesvaisseaux"; mais Josaphat n'accepta pas.
51 Jehoshaphat rested with his ancestors; he was buried in his forefathers' City of David. His son Jehoram succeeded him as king.	51 Josaphat se coucha avec ses pères et on l'enterra dans la Cité de David, son ancêtre; son fils Joramrégna à sa place.
52 Ahaziah, son of Ahab, began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah; he reigned two years over Israel.	52 Ochozias, fils d'Achab, devint roi sur Israël à Samarie en la dix-septième année de Josaphat, roi deJuda, et régna deux ans sur Israël.
53 He did evil in the sight of the LORD, behaving like his father, his mother, and Jeroboam, son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin.	53 Il fit ce qui déplaît à Yahvé et suivit la voie de son père et celle de sa mère, et celle de Jéroboamfils de Nebat qui avait entraîné Israël au péché.
54 He served and worshiped Baal, thus provoking the LORD, the God of Israel, just as his father had done.	54 Il rendit un culte à Baal et se prosterna devant lui, et il irrita Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël, tout comme avaitfait son père.
