1 הדבר אשר דבר ירמיהו הנביא אל ברוך בן נריה בכתבו את הדברים האלה על ספר מפי ירמיהו בשנה הרבעית ליהויקים בן יאשיהו מלך יהודה לאמר	1 The word that the prophet Jeremiah addressed to Baruch son of Neriah when the latter wrote thesewords down in a book at Jeremiah's dictation in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah,
2 כה אמר יהוה אלהי ישראל עליך ברוך	2 'This is what Yahweh God of Israel says about you, Baruch!
3 אמרת אוי נא לי כי יסף יהוה יגון על מכאבי יגעתי באנחתי ומנוחה לא מצאתי	3 "You have been thinking: what disaster for me, and Yahweh has added further grief to my troubles! Iam worn out with groaning, and find no relief!"
4 כה תאמר אליו כה אמר יהוה הנה אשר בניתי אני הרס ואת אשר נטעתי אני נתש ואת כל הארץ היא	4 Say to him as fol ows, "Yahweh says this: Now I am knocking down what I have built, am uprootingwhat I have planted, over the whole country!
5 ואתה תבקש לך גדלות אל תבקש כי הנני מביא רעה על כל בשר נאם יהוה ונתתי לך את נפשך לשלל על כל המקמות אשר תלך שם	5 And you ask for special treatment! Do not ask, for I am now going to bring disaster on al humanity,Yahweh declares, but you I shal al ow to escape with your life, wherever you may go." '
