1 וידבר יהוה אל משה לאמר	1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
2 דבר אל בני ישראל לאמר אשה כי תזריע וילדה זכר וטמאה שבעת ימים כימי נדת דותה תטמא	2 'Speak to the Israelites and say: "If a woman becomes pregnant and gives birth to a boy, she wil beunclean for seven days as when in a state of pol ution due to menstruation.
3 וביום השמיני ימול בשר ערלתו	3 On the eighth day the child's foreskin must be circumcised,
4 ושלשים יום ושלשת ימים תשב בדמי טהרה בכל קדש לא תגע ואל המקדש לא תבא עד מלאת ימי טהרה	4 and she wil wait another thirty-three days for her blood to be purified. She wil not touch anythingconsecrated nor go to the sanctuary until the time of her purification is over.
5 ואם נקבה תלד וטמאה שבעים כנדתה וששים יום וששת ימים תשב על דמי טהרה	5 "If she gives birth to a girl, she wil be unclean for two weeks, as during her monthly periods; and willwait another sixty-six days for her blood to be purified.
6 ובמלאת ימי טהרה לבן או לבת תביא כבש בן שנתו לעלה ובן יונה או תר לחטאת אל פתח אהל מועד אל הכהן	6 "When the period of her purification is over, for either boy or girl, she wil bring the priest at theentrance to the Tent of Meeting a lamb one year old for a burnt offering, and a young pigeon or turtledove as asacrifice for sin.
7 והקריבו לפני יהוה וכפר עליה וטהרה ממקר דמיה זאת תורת הילדת לזכר או לנקבה	7 The priest must offer this before Yahweh, perform the rite of expiation for her, and she wil be purified from her discharge of blood. "Such is the law concerning a woman who gives birth to either a boy or a girl.
8 ואם לא תמצא ידה די שה ולקחה שתי תרים או שני בני יונה אחד לעלה ואחד לחטאת וכפר עליה הכהן וטהרה	8 If she cannot afford a lamb, she must take two turtledoves or two young pigeons, one for the burntoffering and the other for the sacrifice for sin. The priest will perform the rite of expiation for her and she wil bepurified." '
