1 E avvicinandosi a Gerusalemme, e alla Betania presso al monte delle ulive, mandò due de' suoi discepoli,	1 When they were approaching Jerusalem, at Bethphage and Bethany, close by the Mount of Olives, hesent two of his disciples
2 E disse loro: Andate nel villaggio,che vi sta dirimpetto, e al primo ingresso troverete legato un asinello non ancora domato: scioglietelo, e menatelo a me.	2 and said to them, 'Go to the vil age facing you, and as you enter it you wil at once find a tethered coltthat no one has yet ridden. Untie it and bring it here.
3 E se alcuno vi dirà: Che fate voi? Ditegli, che il Signore ne ha bisogno: e subito lo manderà qua.	3 If anyone says to you, "What are you doing?" say, "The Master needs it and wil send it back here at once." '
4 E andarono, e trovarono l'asinello legato alla porta fuori in un bivio: e lo sciolsero.	4 They went off and found a colt tethered near a door in the open street. As they untied it,
5 E alcuni de' circostanti disser loro: Che fate voi, che sciogliete l'asinello?	5 some men standing there said, 'What are you doing, untying that colt?'
6 Ed essi risposer loro, conforme aveva loro ordinato Gesù, e quelli lo lasciaron menar via.	6 They gave the answer Jesus had told them, and the men let them go.
7 E condussero a Gesù l'asinello: sopra di cui misero le loro vesti, ed egli vi montò sopra.	7 Then they took the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on its back, and he mounted it.
8 E molti distendevano le loro vesti per la strada: altri troncavano rami dagli alberi, e gli spargevano per la strada.	8 Many people spread their cloaks on the road, and others greenery which they had cut in the fields.
9 E quelli, che andavan innanzi, e que', che venivano dietro, sciamavano, dicendo: Osanna:	9 And those who went in front and those who fol owed were al shouting, 'Hosanna! Blessed is he who iscoming in the name of the Lord!
10 Benedetto colui, che viene nel nome del Signore: benedetto il regno, che viene, del padre nostro Davidde: Osanna nel più alto de' cieli.	10 Blessed is the coming kingdom of David our father! Hosanna in the highest heavens!'
11 Ed entrò in Gerusalemme, e nel tempio: e osservate intorno tutte le cose, l'ora essendo già tarda, se n' andò a Betania con i dodici.	11 He entered Jerusalem and went into the Temple; and when he had surveyed it al , as it was late bynow, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve.
12 E il dì seguente, usciti che furono di Betania, ebbe fame.	12 Next day as they were leaving Bethany, he felt hungry.
13 E veduto da lontano un fico, che aveva delle foglie, andò a vedere, se a sorte vi trovasse qualche cosa: e fattosi dappresso, non trovò se non foglie: imperocché non era il tempo de' fichi.	13 Seeing a fig tree in leaf some distance away, he went to see if he could find any fruit on it, but whenhe came up to it he found nothing but leaves; for it was not the season for figs.
14 E Gesù dissegli: Mai più in eterno non mangi alcuno deile tue frutta. E i discepoli l'udirono.	14 And he addressed the fig tree, 'May no one ever eat fruit from you again.' And his disciples heard himsay this.
15 E arrivarono a Gerusalemme. Ed essendo egli entrato nel tempio, cominciò a discacciarne quei, che vendevan, e compravano nel tempio: e gettò per terra le tavole de' banchieri, e le seggiole delle persone, che vendevano le colombe.	15 So they reached Jerusalem and he went into the Temple and began driving out the men selling andbuying there; he upset the tables of the money changers and the seats of the dove sel ers.
16 E non permetteva, che nissuno trasportasse arnesi pel tempio:	16 Nor would he allow anyone to carry anything through the Temple.
17 E gl'istruiva, dicendo loro: Non è egli scritto: La mia casa è casa di orazione per tutte le genti, ma voi l'avete cangiata in una spelonca di ladroni.	17 And he taught them and said, 'Does not scripture say: My house wil be cal ed a house of prayer for al peoples? But you have turned it into a bandits' den.'
18 Lo che risaputosi dai principi de'sacerdoti, e dagli scribi, cercavano il modo di levarlo dal mondo; conciossiachè lo temevano, a motivo che tutto il popolo ammirava la sua dottrina.	18 This came to the ears of the chief priests and the scribes, and they tried to find some way of doingaway with him; they were afraid of him because the people were carried away by his teaching.
19 E fattosi sera, uscì dalla città.	19 And when evening came he went out of the city.
20 E la mattina nel passare videro il fico seccato fino alle barbe.	20 Next morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree withered to the roots.
21 E Pietro risovvenutosi, gli disse: Maestro, guarda, come il fico da te maledetto si è seccato.	21 Peter remembered. 'Look, Rabbi,' he said to Jesus, 'the fig tree that you cursed has withered away.'
22 E Gesù rispose, e disse loro: Abbiate fede in Dio.	22 Jesus answered, 'Have faith in God.
23 In verità vi dico, che chiunque dirà a questo monte: Levati, e gettati in mare: e non esiterà in cuor suo; ma avrà fede, che sia fatto, quanto ha detto gli sarà fatto.	23 In truth I tel you, if anyone says to this mountain, "Be pul ed up and thrown into the sea," with nodoubt in his heart, but believing that what he says wil happen, it will be done for him.
24 Per questo vi dico: Qualunque cosa domandiate nell'orazione, abbiate fede di conseguirla, e l'otterrete.	24 I tel you, therefore, everything you ask and pray for, believe that you have it already, and it wil beyours.
25 E quando vi presenterete per orare, se avete qualche cosa contro di alcuno, perdonategli: affinchè il Padre vostro, che è nei cieli, perdoni anch'esso a voi i vostri peccati.	25 And when you stand in prayer, forgive whatever you have against anybody, soyour Father in heavenmay forgive your failings too.'
26 Che se voi non perdonerete, nemmeno il vostro Padre, che è ne' Cieli, perdonerà a voi i vostri peccati.	26
27 E ritornaron di nuovo a Gerusalemme. E mentre egli andava attorno pel tempio, se gli accostarono i sommi sacerdoti, è gli Scribi, e i seniori:	27 They came to Jerusalem again, and as Jesus was walking in the Temple, the chief priests and thescribes and the elders came to him,
28 E gli dissero: Con quale autorità fai tu queste cose. E chi ha dato a te tal balìa per far cose tali?	28 and they said to him, 'What authority have you for acting like this? Or who gave you authority to actlike this?'
29 Ma Gesù rispose, e disse loro: Domanderò anch'io a voi una cosa, e voi rispondetemi: e io vi dirò, con quale autorità faccia io queste cose.	29 Jesus said to them, 'And I will ask you a question, just one; answer me and I wil tel you my authorityfor acting like this.
30 Il battesimo di Giovanni veniva dal cielo, o dagli uomini? Rispondetemi.	30 John's baptism, what was its origin, heavenly or human? Answer me that.'
31 Ma essi ruminavano dentro di se, e dicevano: Se diremo, dal cielo, egli dirà: Perché dunque non, avete creduto a lui.	31 And they argued this way among themselves, 'If we say heavenly, he wil say, "Then why did yourefuse to believe him?"
32 Se diremo, dagli uomini, abbiamo paura del popolo: conciossiachè tutti tenevano, che Giovanni fosse veramente profeta.	32 But dare we say human?' -- they had the people to fear, for everyone held that John had been a realprophet.
33 E risposero a Gesù: Nol sappiamo. E Gesù disse loro: Nemmeno io dico a voi, con quale autorità faccia io tali cose.	33 So their reply to Jesus was, 'We do not know.' And Jesus said to them, 'Nor will I tell you my authorityfor acting like this.'
