Proverbi 22

BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 UNA buona riputazione vai più, che le molte ricchezze, e più dell'argento, e dell'oro vale l'essere amato.	1 Fame is preferable to great wealth, favour, to silver and gold.
2 Il ricco, e il povero si vanno incontro: tutti due furono fatti dal Signore.	2 Rich and poor rub shoulders, Yahweh has made them both.
3 L'uomo prudente vide venire il male, e si nascose: l'imprudente tirò innanzi, e n' ebbe il danno.	3 The discreet sees danger and takes shelter, simpletons go ahead and pay the penalty.
4 Frutto dell'umiltà egli è il timor del Signore, le ricchezze, e la gloria, e la vita.	4 The reward of humility is the fear of Yahweh, and riches, honour and life.
5 Armi, e spade nella strada dell'uom perverso: chi ha cura dell'anima propria va lungi da tali cose.	5 Thorns and snares line the path of the wilful, whoever values life will stay at a distance.
6 Egli è proverbio: Il giovinetto presa che ha sua strada non se ne allontanerà nemmen quando sarà invecchiato.	6 Give a lad a training suitable to his character and, even when old, he wil not go back on it.
7 Il ricco comanda al povero: e chi prende a cambio, è servo dell'usuraio.	7 The rich lords it over the poor, the borrower is the lender's slave.
8 Chi semina ingiustizie, mieterà sciagure, e sarà consunto dalla verga del suo furore.	8 Whoever sows injustice reaps disaster, and the rod of such anger wil disappear.
9 Chi è inchinevole a compassione sarà benedetto; perché del suo pane fa parte a' poveri. Chi usa liberalità acquista vittorie, e onori, e rapisce il cuore di chi riceve.	9 A kindly eye wil earn a blessing, such a person shares out food with the poor.
10 Manda via il derisore, e con lui se n' andranno le risse; e averan fine le liti, e le contumelie.	10 Expel the mocker and strife goes too, law-suits and dislike die down.
11 Chi ama la schiettezza del cuore, pel suo grazioso parlare, avrà l'amicizia del re.	11 Whoever loves the pure of heart and is gracious of speech has the king for a friend.
12 Gli occhi del Signore custodiscono i sapienti, ed egli rende vane le parole dell'iniquo.	12 Yahweh's eyes protect knowledge, but he confounds deceitful speeches.
13 Il pigro dice: Fuori vi è un lione: sarò ucciso in mezzo alla piazza.	13 'There is a lion outside,' says the idler, 'I shal be kil ed in the street!'
14 Fossa profonda o la bocca dell'adultera: vi caderà chi è in ira al Signore.	14 The mouth of an adulterous woman is a deep pit, into it fal s the man whom Yahweh rebukes.
15 La stoltezza sta legata al cuore del fanciullo: la verga della disciplina ne la scaccerà.	15 Fol y is anchored in the heart of a youth, the whip of instruction wil rid him of it.
16 Chi opprime il povero per aver più ricchezze, le cederà egli a uno più, ricco, e resterà miserabile.	16 Harsh treatment enriches the poor, but a gift impoverishes the rich.
17 Porgi le tue orecchie, e ascolta le parole de' saggi: e pon mente a' miei insegnamenti,	17 Give ear, listen to the sayings of the sages, and apply your heart to what I know,
18 I quali saranno amabili per te, quando li custodirai in cuor tuo, e scaturiranno per le tue labbra:	18 for it wil be a delight to keep them deep within you to have them al ready on your lips.
19 Onde nel Signore sia la tua fiducia: e per questo io oggi te gli ho esposti.	19 So that your trust may be in Yahweh, it is you whom I wish to instruct today.
20 Ecco, che io in tre modi ti ho rappresentata la mia dottrina, con molta riflessione, e studio,	20 Have I not written for you thirty chapters of advice and knowledge,
21 Per farti conoscere la fermezza delle parole di verità, onde tu possi rispondere a quelli, che ti hanno mandato,	21 to make you know the certainty of true sayings, so that you can return with sound answers to thosewho sent you?
22 Non usar prepotenza col povero, perché egli è povero, e non calpestare il miserabile alla porta:	22 Do not despoil the weak, for he is weak, and do not oppress the poor at the gate,
23 Perché il Signore patrocinerà la causa di lui, e trafiggerà quelli, che a lui han trafitta l'anima.	23 for Yahweh takes up their cause, and extorts the life of their extortioners.
24 Non fare amicizia con uomo iracondo, e non conversare con uomo furioso:	24 Do not make friends with one who gives way to anger, make no one quick-tempered a companion ofyours,
25 Per paura di non imparare a fare come egli fa, e di non prendere occasione di inciampo per l'anima tua.	25 for fear you learn such behaviour and in it find a snare for yourself.
26 Non associarti con quelli, che impegnano la loro mano, e si offeriscono mallevadori per chi ha dei debiti:	26 Do not be one of those who go guarantor, who go surety for debts:
27 Perocché se tu non hai il modo di soddisfare, perché vorrai tu, che ti sia tolta di sul tuo letto la coperta?	27 if you have no means of paying your bed wil be taken from under you.
28 Non oltrepassare i termini antichi posti da' padri tuoi.	28 Do not displace the ancient boundary-stone set by your ancestors.
29 Hai tu veduto un uomo spedito nel suo lavoro? Egli starà dinanzi ai re, e non tratterà con gente di bassa lega.	29 You see someone alert at his business? His aim wil be to serve kings; not for him the service of theobscure.
