επικαλεσαι δε ει τις σοι υπακουσεται η ει τινα αγγελων αγιων οψη | 1 Therefore call, if there are any who will respond to you, and turn to one or another of the saints. |
και γαρ αφρονα αναιρει οργη πεπλανημενον δε θανατοι ζηλος | 2 Truly, anger condemns the foolish to death, and envy kills the petty. |
εγω δε εωρακα αφρονας ριζαν βαλλοντας αλλ' ευθεως εβρωθη αυτων η διαιτα | 3 I have seen a fool with a strong root, and I have cursed his excellence without hesitation. |
πορρω γενοιντο οι υιοι αυτων απο σωτηριας κολαβρισθειησαν δε επι θυραις ησσονων και ουκ εσται ο εξαιρουμενος | 4 His sons will be far from prosperity and will be crushed at the gate, and there will be none who can rescue them. |
α γαρ εκεινοι συνηγαγον δικαιοι εδονται αυτοι δε εκ κακων ουκ εξαιρετοι εσονται εκσιφωνισθειη αυτων η ισχυς | 5 Their harvest, the starving will eat. The armed man will rob him, and the thirsty will drink his resources. |
ου γαρ μη εξελθη εκ της γης κοπος ουδε εξ ορεων αναβλαστησει πονος | 6 Nothing on earth occurs without a reason, and sorrow does not rise from the earth. |
αλλα ανθρωπος γενναται κοπω νεοσσοι δε γυπος τα υψηλα πετονται | 7 Man is born to labor, and the bird to fly. |
ου μην δε αλλα εγω δεηθησομαι κυριου κυριον δε τον παντων δεσποτην επικαλεσομαι | 8 Therefore, because of this, I will beg the Lord, and place my eloquence before God. |
τον ποιουντα μεγαλα και ανεξιχνιαστα ενδοξα τε και εξαισια ων ουκ εστιν αριθμος | 9 He does great and unfathomable and miraculous things without number. |
τον διδοντα υετον επι την γην αποστελλοντα υδωρ επι την υπ' ουρανον | 10 He gives rain over the face of the earth and irrigates all things with the waters. |
τον ποιουντα ταπεινους εις υψος και απολωλοτας εξεγειροντα | 11 He places the humble on high and encourages the grieving towards health. |
διαλλασσοντα βουλας πανουργων και ου μη ποιησουσιν αι χειρες αυτων αληθες | 12 He dispels the thoughts of the spiteful, lest their hands be able to complete what they had begun. |
ο καταλαμβανων σοφους εν τη φρονησει βουλην δε πολυπλοκων εξεστησεν | 13 He catches the wise in their cleverness and dissipates the counsel of the perverse. |
ημερας συναντησεται αυτοις σκοτος το δε μεσημβρινον ψηλαφησαισαν ισα νυκτι | 14 They will encounter darkness in the daytime, and they will grope at midday just as in the night. |
απολοιντο δε εν πολεμω αδυνατος δε εξελθοι εκ χειρος δυναστου | 15 Thereafter, he will act to save the needy from the sword of their mouth, and the poor from the hand of the violent. |
ειη δε αδυνατω ελπις αδικου δε στομα εμφραχθειη | 16 And there will be hope for those in need, for iniquity will diminish its speech. |
μακαριος δε ανθρωπος ον ηλεγξεν ο κυριος νουθετημα δε παντοκρατορος μη απαναινου | 17 Blessed is the man whom God corrects; therefore, do not reject the chastisement of the Lord. |
αυτος γαρ αλγειν ποιει και παλιν αποκαθιστησιν επαισεν και αι χειρες αυτου ιασαντο | 18 For he wounds and he cures; he strikes and his hands will heal. |
εξακις εξ αναγκων σε εξελειται εν δε τω εβδομω ου μη αψηται σου κακον | 19 He will deliver you into six tribulations, and in the seventh, evil will not touch you. |
εν λιμω ρυσεται σε εκ θανατου εν πολεμω δε εκ χειρος σιδηρου λυσει σε | 20 During famine, he will rescue you from death, and during war, from the hand of the sword. |
απο μαστιγος γλωσσης σε κρυψει και ου μη φοβηθης απο κακων ερχομενων | 21 You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, and you will not fear calamity when it arrives. |
αδικων και ανομων καταγελαση απο δε θηριων αγριων ου μη φοβηθης | 22 In desolation and in famine, you will laugh, and you will not dread the beasts of the earth. |
θηρες γαρ αγριοι ειρηνευσουσιν σοι | 23 For you are in harmony with the stones of the land, and the beasts of the earth will make peace with you. |
ειτα γνωση οτι ειρηνευσει σου ο οικος η δε διαιτα της σκηνης σου ου μη αμαρτη | 24 And you will know that your home has peace, and, concerning your appearance, you will not sin. |
γνωση δε οτι πολυ το σπερμα σου τα δε τεκνα σου εσται ωσπερ το παμβοτανον του αγρου | 25 Likewise, you will know that your offspring will be manifold and your progeny will be like the grass of the earth. |
ελευση δε εν ταφω ωσπερ σιτος ωριμος κατα καιρον θεριζομενος η ωσπερ θιμωνια αλωνος καθ' ωραν συγκομισθεισα | 26 You will enter the grave with abundance, just as a crop of wheat is gathered in its time. |
ιδου ταυτα ουτως εξιχνιασαμεν ταυτα εστιν α ακηκοαμεν συ δε γνωθι σεαυτω ει τι επραξας | 27 Behold, this is just as we have found it, which you have heard; walk it through your mind. |
