KING JAMES BIBLEBIBBIA VOLGARE
And the men of Kirjath-jearim came, and fetched up the ark of the LORD, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the LORD.1 E vennero quelli di Cariatiarim, e rimenarono l'arca di Dio, e portaronla in casa di Aminadab in Gabaa; e santificarono Eleazaro suo figliuolo, acciò che guardasse l'arca di Dio.
And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjath-jearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the LORD.2 E fu fatto, dal dì che l'arca istette in Cariatiarim, che i dì moltiplicarono; onde era l'anno vigesimo; e tutta la casa d' Israel riposò dopo il Signore.
And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.3 E Samuel disse a tutta la casa d'Israel: se voi tornate al vostro Signore Iddio con tutto il vostro cuore, tollete via del mezzo di voi gli dii d'altrui, Baalim e Astarot; e apparecchiate i vostri cuori a Dio, e servite a lui solo, ed egli vi libererà dalle mani de' Filistei.
Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only.4 E i figliuoli d' Israel tolsero via Baalim e Astarot, e servirono solo al Signore.
And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the LORD.5 E Samuel disse; raunate tutto Israel in Masfat, acciò ch' io ori per voi il Signore.
And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against the LORD. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.6 E raunaronsi in Masfat; e trassero l'acqua, e sparserla in cospetto di Dio, e digiunarono in quel dì, e dissero: Signore, noi abbiamo peccato a te. E giudicò Samuel i figliuoli d' Israel in Masfat.
And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.7 E i Filistei udirono che i figliuoli d' Israel erano congregati in Masfat, e i savii de' Filistei ascenderono ad Israel. La quale cosa udendo i figliuoli d' Israel, temerono la presenza de' Filistei.
And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto the LORD our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.8 E dissono a Samuel: non cessare di chiamare per noi al nostro Signore Iddio, che ci salvi delle mani de' Filistei.
And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a burnt offering wholly unto the LORD: and Samuel cried unto the LORD for Israel; and the LORD heard him.9 E tolse Samuel uno agnello lattante, e offerillo integro in olocausto a Dio; e chiamò Samuel a Dio per Israel, ed esaudillo il Signore.
And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel.10 E offerendo Samuel olocausto, intervenne che i Filistei cominciarono la battaglia contro ad Israel; e Dominedio tonò in quel di sopra gli Filistei con grande rumore, e spaventogli, e furon tagliati dai figliuoli d' Israel.
And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Beth-car.11 E usciti i figliuoli d' Israel di Masfat, perseguitorono i Filistei insino al luogo ch' era sotto Betcar.
Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Eben-ezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.12 E Samuel tolse una pietra, e puosela tra Masfat e Sen; e chiamò il nome di quello luogo PIETRA D'ADIUTORIO, e disse: insino a quiritta Iddio Signore n'ha aiutati.
So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more into the coast of Israel: and the hand of the LORD was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.13 E furono umiliati gli Filistei, e non presumerono più entrare nelli confini d' Israel. E fu fatta la mano di Dio sopra gli Filistei tutto il tempo di Samuel.
And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even unto Gath; and the coasts thereof did Israel deliver out of the hands of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites.14 E furono rendute tutte le città che i Filistei aveano tolte ai figliuoli d' Israel, da Accaron insino a Get e a' suoi confini; e liberò Israel dalle mani de' Filistei, ed era pace tra Israel e lo Amorreo.
And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.15 E Samuel giudicava Israel per tutti i dì della sua vita.
And he went from year to year in circuit to Bethel, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and judged Israel in all those places.16 E andava ogni anno cercando Betel e Galgala e Masfat; e in quelli luoghi giudicava Israel.
And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the LORD.17 E ritornavasi in Ramata, però che ivi era la sua casa; e ivi giudicava Israel; e ivi edificò l'altare al Signore.
