KING JAMES BIBLEBIBBIA VOLGARE
And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.1 E favellato che ebbe con Saul, l'anima di Ionata fu congiunta con l'anima di David; e amollo Ionata sì come l'anima sua.
And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father's house.2 E Saul in quello die lo ritenne, e non li concedette che tornasse alla casa del suo padre.
Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.3 E Ionata e David fecero patto insieme, però che l'amava come l'anima sua.
And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.4 E ispogliossi Ionata la sua tunica, della quale era vestito, e diedela a David, e tutte le altre vestimenta insino al coltello e l'arco, e insino al cingolo militare.
And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul's servants.5 E andava David a tutte le cose, che Saul il mandava, e prudentemente si portava. E Saul il puose sopra gli uomini della battaglia, ed era accetto nel cospetto di tutto il popolo, e massimamente nel cospetto de' servi di Saul.
And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick.6 Ma ritornando David, quando uccise il Filisteo (portando il capo suo in Ierusalem), uscirono femine di tutte le cittadi d' Israel, cantando e ballando, incontro a Saul re con timpani e cimbali di letizia.
And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.7 E sonando le donne e sollazzando, diceano : Saul ne percosse mille, e David X milia.
And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?8 E Saul s' adirò troppo, e spiacque negli occhii suoi questo sermone, e disse: a David n' hanno dato X milia, e a me n' hanno dato mille; che gli resta, se non il regno?
And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.9 Onde che Saul non guardava con diritti occhii David da quello dì inanzi.
And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul's hand.10 E dopo l' altro dì, lo spirito maligno prese Saul, e profetava nel mezzo della casa sua. E David sonava con la sna mano, sì come ciascuno di solea fare; e Saul tenea una lancia.
And Saul cast the javelin; for he said, I will smite David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice.11 E gittolla, credendo conficcare David col parete; e partissi da lui la seconda volta David.
And Saul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Saul.12 E Saul temette David, perchè Iddio era con esso lui, e (specialmente) perchè da lui s' era partito.
Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.13 Per la quale cosa Saul il partì da sè, e fecelo tribuno sopra mille uomini; ed entrava e usciva in cospetto del popolo.
And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.14 E in tutte le sue vie procedeva [David] saviamente, e Iddio era con lui.
Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him.15 Veggendo Saul, ch' egli era troppo savio, cominciò a guardarsi da lui.
But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.16 Ma tutto Israel e Giuda amava David; però ch' egli entrava e usciva dinanzi da loro.
And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD's battles. For Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.17 E Saul disse a David: ecco la mia figliuola maggiore Merob, io la ti darò per moglie: solamente fa che tu sii uomo forte, e combatti le battaglie di Dio. E pensava Saul, e dicea: non sia la mia mano sopra di lui, ma sopra di lui sia la mano de' Filistei.
And David said unto Saul, Who am I? and what is my life, or my father's family in Israel, that I should be son in law to the king?18 E David disse a Saul: chi sono io, che è la vita mia, o che è il parentado del padre mio in Israel, ch' io sia genero di re?
But it came to pass at the time when Merab Saul's daughter should have been given to David, that she was given unto Adriel the Meholathite to wife.19 E fatto il tempo che si dovea dare Merob la figliuola di Saul a David, fue data ad Adriele Molatite per moglie.
And Michal Saul's daughter loved David: and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.20 David amò Micol, l'altra figliuola di Saul; e fu significato a Saul, e piacquegli.
And Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son in law in the one of the twain.21 E disse Saul: io glie la darò, acciò che gli sia scandalo, e sia sopra di lui la mano de' Filistei. E disse Saul a David: in due cose sarai oggi mio genero.
And Saul commanded his servants, saying, Commune with David secretly, and say, Behold, the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants love thee: now therefore be the king's son in law.22 E comandò Saul a' servi suoi, e disse: parlate a David, di nascoso a me, e ditegli: ecco che tu piaci al re, e tutti i servi suoi t' amano; ora sarai genero di re.
And Saul's servants spake those words in the ears of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you a light thing to be a king's son in law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed?23 E dissero i servi di Saul tutte queste parole negli orecchii di David. E David disse: pàrevi poco, essere genero del re? Io sono uomo povero e sottile.
And the servants of Saul told him, saying, On this manner spake David.24 E rinunciarono i servi di Saul, dicendo: cotali parole ci ha dette David.
And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king's enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.25 E Saul disse: dite così a David: non ha bisogno il re de' doni di spose, se non solo di cento membri virili de' Filistei, acciò che sia fatta vendetta de' nemici del re. E pensava Saul, porre David nelle mani de' Filistei.
And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king's son in law: and the days were not expired.26 E rinunciarono i servi a David le parole di Saul; e piacque negli occhii di David d'essere genero del re.
Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king's son in law.
And Saul saw and knew that the LORD was with David, and that Michal Saul's daughter loved him.28 E vide Saul, e intese, che lo Signore era con David. E Micol figliuola di Saul amava David.
And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David's enemy continually.29 E Saul cominciò più a temere David; è poi fatto Saul nemico di David d' ogni tempo.
Then the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it came to pass, after they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Saul; so that his name was much set by.30 E i principi de' Filistei ritornarono; e nel principio della loro ritornata più saviamente si portava David, che tutti i servi di Saul; onde il nome suo fu fatto molto famoso.
