KING JAMES BIBLENOVA VULGATA
And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.1 Et dicebat illis: “ Amen dico vobis: Sunt quidam de hic stan tibus, quinon gustabunt mortem, donec videant regnum Dei venisse in virtute ”.
And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them.2 Et post dies sex assumit Iesus Petrum et Iacobum et Ioannem, et ducit illos inmontem excelsum seorsum solos. Et transfiguratus est coram ipsis;
And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.3 etvestimenta eius facta sunt splendentia, candida nimis, qualia fullo super terramnon potest tam candida facere.
And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.4 Et apparuit illis Elias cum Moyse, et erantloquentes cum Iesu.
And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.5 Et respondens Petrus ait Iesu: “ Rabbi, bonum est noshic esse; et faciamus tria tabernacula: tibi unum et Moysi unum et Eliae unum”.
For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid.6 Non enim sciebat quid responderet; erant enim exterriti.
And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.7 Et facta estnubes obumbrans eos, et venit vox de nube: “ Hic est Filius meus dilectus;audite illum ”.
And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves.8 Et statim circumspicientes neminem amplius viderunt nisiIesum tantum secum.
And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.9 Et descendentibus illis de monte, praecepit illis, ne cui, quae vidissent,narrarent, nisi cum Filius hominis a mortuis resurrexerit.
And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.10 Et verbumcontinuerunt apud se, conquirentes quid esset illud: “ a mortuis resurgere ”.
And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come?11 Et interrogabant eum dicentes: “ Quid ergo dicunt scribae quia Eliamoporteat venire primum? ”.
And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.12 Qui ait illis: “ Elias veniens primo,restituit omnia; et quomodo scriptum est super Filio hominis, ut multa patiaturet contemnatur?
But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.13 Sed dico vobis: Et Elias venit; et fecerunt illi, quaecumquevolebant, sicut scriptum est de eo ”.
And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.14 Et venientes ad discipulos viderunt turbam magnam circa eos et scribasconquirentes cum illis.
And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.15 Et confestim omnis populus videns eum stupefactusest, et accurrentes salutabant eum.
And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?16 Et interrogavit eos: “ Quid inter vosconquiritis? ”.
And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;17 Et respondit ei unus de turba: “ Magister, attuli filiummeum ad te habentem spiritum mutum;
And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.18 et ubicumque eum apprehenderit, alliditeum, et spumat et stridet dentibus et arescit. Et dixi discipulis tuis, uteicerent illum, et non potuerunt ”.
He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.19 Qui respondens eis dicit: “ Ogeneratio incredula, quamdiu apud vos ero? Quamdiu vos patiar? Afferte illum adme ”.
And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.20 Et attulerunt illum ad eum. Et cum vidisset illum, spiritus statimconturbavit eum; et corruens in terram volutabatur spumans.
And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.21 Et interrogavitpatrem eius: “ Quantum temporis est, ex quo hoc ei accidit? ”. At ille ait:“ Ab infantia;
And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.22 et frequenter eum etiam in ignem et in aquas misit, ut eumperderet; sed si quid potes, adiuva nos, misertus nostri ”.
Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.23 Iesus autem aitilli: “ “Si potes!”. Omnia possibilia credenti ”.
And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.24 Et continuoexclamans pater pueri aiebat: “ Credo; adiuva incredulitatem meam ”.
When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.25 Etcum videret Iesus concurrentem turbam, comminatus est spiritui immundo dicensilli: “ Mute et surde spiritus, ego tibi praecipio: Exi ab eo et amplius neintroeas in eum ”.
And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.26 Et clamans et multum discerpens eum exiit; et factus estsicut mortuus, ita ut multi dicerent: “ Mortuus est! ”.
But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.27 Iesus autemtenens manum eius elevavit illum, et surrexit.
And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?28 Et cum introisset in domum, discipuli eius secreto interrogabant eum: “Quare nos non potuimus eicere eum? ”.
And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.29 Et dixit illis: “ Hoc genus innullo potest exire nisi in oratione ”.
And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it.30 Et inde profecti peragrabant Galilaeam; nec volebat quemquam scire.
For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.31 Docebat enim discipulos suos et dicebat illis: “ Filius hominis traditur inmanus hominum, et occident eum, et occisus post tres dies resurget ”.
But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.32 Atilli ignorabant verbum et timebant eum interrogare.
And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?33 Et venerunt Capharnaum. Qui cum domi esset, interrogabat eos: “ Quid in viatractabatis? ”.
But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.34 At illi tacebant. Siquidem inter se in via disputaverant,quis esset maior.
And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.35 Et residens vocavit Duodecim et ait illis: “ Si quis vultprimus esse, erit omnium novissimus et omnium minister ”.
And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them,36 Et accipienspuerum, statuit eum in medio eorum; quem ut complexus esset, ait illis:
Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.37 “Quisquis unum ex huiusmodi pueris receperit in nomine meo, me recipit; et,quicumque me susceperit, non me suscipit, sed eum qui me misit ”.
And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.38 Dixit illi Ioannes: “ Magister, vidimus quendam in nomine tuo eicientemdaemonia, et prohibebamus eum, quia non sequebatur nos ”.
But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.39 Iesus autem ait:“ Nolite prohibere eum. Nemo est enim, qui faciat virtutem in nomine meo etpossit cito male loqui de me;
For he that is not against us is on our part.40 qui enim non est adversum nos, pro nobis est.
For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.41 Quisquis enim potum dederit vobis calicem aquae in nomine, quia Christiestis, amen dico vobis: Non perdet mercedem suam.
And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.42 Et quisquis scandalizaverit unum ex his pusillis credentibus in me, bonum estei magis, ut circumdetur mola asinaria collo eius, et in mare mittatur.
And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:43 Et si scandalizaverit te manus tua, abscide illam: bonum est tibi debilemintroire in vitam, quam duas manus habentem ire in
gehennam, in ignem inexstinguibilem.
Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.44
And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:45 Et si pes tuus te scandalizat,amputa illum: bonum est tibi claudum introire in vitam,
quam duos pedes habentem mitti in gehennam.
Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.46
And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:47 Et si oculus tuusscandalizat te, eice eum: bonum est tibi luscum introire in regnum Dei, quamduos oculos habentem mitti in gehennam,
Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.48 ubi vermis eorum non moritur, etignis non exstinguitur;
For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.49 omnis enim igne salietur.
Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.50 Bonum est sal; quod sisal insulsum fuerit, in quo illud condietis? Habete in vobis sal et pacem habeteinter vos ”.
