1 Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,	1 - Allora si accostarono a Gesù gli Scribi e i Farisei, venuti da Gerusalemme, e gli chiesero:
2 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.	2 «Per qual motivo, i tuoi discepoli trasgrediscono le tradizioni degli antichi? Infatti essi non si lavano le mani quando mangiano il pane».
3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?	3 Ma egli rispose loro: «Perchè anche voi trasgredite il comandamento di Dio per amore della vostra tradizione? Dio, infatti, ha detto:
4 For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.	4 - Onora il padre e la madre. Chi maledice il padre o la madre sia punito di morte. -
5 But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;	5 Voi invece dite: - chiunque dice al padre o alla madre: " Quello con cui potrei aiutarti sia un'offerta! " -
6 And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.	6 non ha più bisogno di onorare suo padre o sua madre. E così rendete nullo il comandamento di Dio in grazia della vostra tradizione.
7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,	7 Ipocriti, Isaia ha profetato bene di voi quando disse:
8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.	8 - Questo popolo mi onora con le labbra, ma il suo cuore è lontano da me;
9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.	9 invano mi onorano insegnando dottrine e comandi che emanano da uomini -».
10 And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:	10 Poi chiamata a sè la folla disse: «Ascoltate e intendete.
11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.	11 Non quel che entra nella bocca contamina l'uomo, ma quello che esce dalla bocca, questo contamina l'uomo!».
12 Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?	12 Allora i suoi discepoli accostandosi a lui, gli dissero: «Sai tu che i Farisei, udendo questo discorso si sono scandalizzati?».
13 But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.	13 Egli rispose: «Ogni pianta, non piantata dal Padre mio celeste, sarà sradicata.
14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.	14 Lasciateli; sono ciechi che guidano dei ciechi: ora se un cieco guida un altro cieco, tutt'e due cadranno nella fossa».
15 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.	15 Pietro allora prese a dirgli: «Spiegaci questa parabola».
16 And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?	16 E Gesù rispose: «Siete anche voi privi d'intelletto?
17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?	17 Non capite che tutto ciò che entra nella bocca passa nel ventre e poi viene espulso nel recesso?
18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.	18 Invece quello che esce dalla bocca viene dal cuore ed è quello che contamina l'uomo.
19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:	19 Dal cuore, infatti, vengono i cattivi pensieri, gli omicidii, gli adulterii, le fornicazioni, i furti, le false testimonianze, le bestemmie.
20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.	20 Queste son le cose che contaminano l'uomo; ma il mangiare senza lavarsi le mani non contamina l'uomo».
21 Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.	21 Gesù, lasciato quel paese, riparò dalle parti di Tiro e Sidone.
22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.	22 Ed ecco una donna Cananea, di quei paraggi, venne fuori, gridando a voce alta: «Abbi pietà di me, Signore, figlio di David; mia figlia è crudelmente tormentata dal demonio».
23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.	23 Gesù non le rispose parola. Allora i suoi discepoli, accostatisi, lo pregavan dicendogli: «Mandala via perchè ci vien dietro gridando».
24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.	24 Egli rispose: «Io non sono stato mandato che alle pecore perdute della casa d'Israele».
25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.	25 Ma essa venne a prostrarsi dinanzi a lui dicendo: «Signore, aiutami!».
26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.	26 Egli rispose: «Non è buona cosa prendere il pane dei figliuoli per gettarlo ai cagnolini».
27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.	27 Ed essa: «Dici bene, Signore; ma anche i cagnolini mangian le briciole che cascan dalla mensa dei padroni».
28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.	28 Allora Gesù le disse: «Donna, la tua fede è grande; sia fatto come tu vuoi». E in quel momento la sua figliuola fu guarita.
29 And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there.	29 Gesù abbandonò quei luoghi e venne presso il mare di Galilea; e salito sopra il monte si pose a sedere.
30 And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them:	30 Subito gli si accostaron molte turbe, che avevano con sè muti, ciechi, zoppi, storpi e molti altri malati e li deposero davanti a lui; ed egli li guarì;
31 Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.	31 tanto che la folla restò meravigliata vedendo i muti parlare, gli zoppi camminare, i ciechi vedere; ed essa ne dava gloria al Dio d'Israele.
32 Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.	32 Gesù chiamati i suoi discepoli, disse loro: «Ho compassione di questo popolo, che già da tre giorni sta con me e non ha nulla da mangiare; nè io voglio rimandarli digiuni per tema che le loro forze abbiano a venir meno lungo il cammino».
33 And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude?	33 I discepoli gli osservarono: «Dove trovare in un deserto tanti pani che bastino a saziare così gran folla?».
34 And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes.	34 Gesù domandò loro: «Quanti pani avete?». «Sette» risposero «e pochi pesciolini».
35 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.	35 Allora comandò alla folla di mettersi a sedere per terra;
36 And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.	36 prese i sette pani e i pesci e dopo aver rese grazie, li spezzò e li diede a' suoi discepoli e questi al popolo.
37 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.	37 E mangiarono tutti e ne furono sazi; e portaron via sette ceste piene colme dei bocconi avanzati.
38 And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.	38 Quelli che avevano mangiato eran quattromila persone, senza contare le donne e i fanciulli.
39 And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala,	39 Poi salutate le turbe, Gesù entrò nella barca e venne nel paese di Magedan.
