1 For thine incorruptible Spirit is in all things.	1 Come è buono e soave lo spirito tuo, Signore, in noi!
2 Therefore chastenest thou them by little and little that offend, and warnest them by putting them in remembrance wherein they have offended, that leaving their wickedness they may believe on thee, O Lord.	2 E però castighi tu coloro li quali delle parti errano; di quelle cose che loro peccano, tu gli riprendi; e parli loro, che lasciata la malizia, credano in te, o Signore.
3 For it was thy will to destroy by the hands of our fathers both those old inhabitants of thy holy land,	3 E però quelli abitatori della tua terra santa, li quali tu spaventasti;
4 Whom thou hatedst for doing most odious works of witchcrafts, and wicked sacrifices;	4 però ch' elli facevano opere, che tu avevi in odio, per malie e ingiusti sacrificii;
5 And also those merciless murderers of children, and devourers of man's flesh, and the feasts of blood,	5 e ucciditori sanza misericordia de' suoi figliuoli, e mangiatori delle interiora delli uomini, divoratori del sangue di mezzo del sacramento tuo;
6 With their priests out of the midst of their idolatrous crew, and the parents, that killed with their own hands souls destitute of help:	6 e li autori, padri delle sconsigliate anime, li volesti uccidere per le mani de' padri nostri,
7 That the land, which thou esteemedst above all other, might receive a worthy colony of God's children.	7 acciò che elli conoscessero la degna peregrinazione de' servi di Dio, in quella terra ch' è a te più cara di tutte.
8 Nevertheless even those thou sparedst as men, and didst send wasps, forerunners of thine host, to destroy them by little and little.	8 E ancora perdonasti tu a costoro, sì come a uomini, e mandasti le vespe dinanzi dalla tua oste, per che a poco a poco isterminassono coloro.
9 Not that thou wast unable to bring the ungodly under the hand of the righteous in battle, or to destroy them at once with cruel beasts, or with one rough word:	9 Non per che tu fossi debile in battaglia a sottomettere li malvagi alli giusti, o vero alle crudeli bestie, o ad esterminargli somigliantemente con dura parola;
10 But executing thy judgments upon them by little and little, thou gavest them place of repentance, not being ignorant that they were a naughty generation, and that their malice was bred in them, and that their cogitation would never be changed.	10 ma comandando alle parti, concedevi luogo di penitenza, sappiendo bene che la loro generazione era malvagia, e che in loro vanitade era malizia, perchè il loro pensiero non si poteva mutare in perpetuo.
11 For it was a cursed seed from the beginning; neither didst thou for fear of any man give them pardon for those things wherein they sinned.	11 Il loro seme era maledetto dal cominciamento; e [per] che non temevi alcuno, perdonanza davi alli loro peccati.
12 For who shall say, What hast thou done? or who shall withstand thy judgment? or who shall accuse thee for the nations that perish, whom thou made? or who shall come to stand against thee, to be revenged for the unrighteous men?	12 Or chi sarà colui che dica a te: che hai tu fatto? Or chi starà contro alla tua sentenza? Or chi per vendicare li malvagi uomini verrà nel conspetto tuo? Or chi imputerà a te, se (loro) periranno le genti che tu facesti?
13 For neither is there any God but thou that careth for all, to whom thou mightest shew that thy judgment is not unright.	13 Non è altro Iddio, che te; al quale è cura di tutte le cose, acciò che tu dimostri che tu non sentenzii ingiustamente.
14 Neither shall king or tyrant be able to set his face against thee for any whom thou hast punished.	14 Nè re nè tiranno nel conspetto tuo chiederanno di coloro che tu facesti perdere (e morire).
15 Forsomuch then as thou art righteous thyself, thou orderest all things righteously: thinking it not agreeable with thy power to condemn him that hath not deserved to be punished.	15 Adunque, conciosia cosa che tu sia giusto, giustamente disponi tutte le cose; e condanni anco colui che non deve essere punito, e distermini dalla tua virtù.
16 For thy power is the beginning of righteousness, and because thou art the Lord of all, it maketh thee to be gracious unto all.	16 La tua virtù sì è principio di giustizia; però che tu se' Signore di tutti, a tutti fai perdonanza.
17 For when men will not believe that thou art of a full power, thou shewest thy strength, and among them that know it thou makest their boldness manifest.	17 Tu dimostri virtù, il quale non se' creduto essere perfetto in virtù; e coloro che non ti conoscono, li trasporti in audacia.
18 But thou, mastering thy power, judgest with equity, and orderest us with great favour: for thou mayest use power when thou wilt.	18 Ma tu, signoreggiatore di virtù, digiudichi con tranquillitade, e con grande riverenza ne disponi noi; la potenza è sotto te, quando tu vuoli.
19 But by such works hast thou taught thy people that the just man should be merciful, and hast made thy children to be of a good hope that thou givest repentance for sins.	19 Tu ammaestrasti il popolo tuo per tali opere, però che si conviene che questo sia giusto e umano, e di buona speranza tu facesti li tuoi figliuoli; però che tu se' giudicante, e che dài luogo nelli peccati alla penitenza.
20 For if thou didst punish the enemies of thy children, and the condemned to death, with such deliberation, giving them time and place, whereby they might be delivered from their malice:	20 Or se li nimici de' servi tuoi, e degni di morte, tu li tormentasti con tanta attenzione (e liberasti), dando luogo e tempo ch' elli si potessono mutare della loro malizia,
21 With how great circumspection didst thou judge thine own sons, unto whose fathers thou hast sworn, and made covenants of good promises?	21 con quanta diligenza giudichi tu li figliuoli tuoi, alli cui padri tu giurasti e pattovisti buone promessioni?
22 Therefore, whereas thou dost chasten us, thou scourgest our enemies a thousand times more, to the intent that, when we judge, we should carefully think of thy goodness, and when we ourselves are judged, we should look for mercy.	22 Dunque, quando tu ne ammaestri, tu flagelli li nimici nostri in molte maniere, acciò che noi giudicando pensiamo la bontade tua; e quando di noi si giudica, speriamo la tua misericordia.
23 Wherefore, whereas men have lived dissolutely and unrighteously, thou hast tormented them with their own abominations.	23 Onde e a coloro che in loro vita vivettono disensatamente e ingiustamente, dèsti loro sommi tormenti per queste cose ch' elli adoronno.
24 For they went astray very far in the ways of error, and held them for gods, which even among the beasts of their enemies were despised, being deceived, as children of no understanding.	24 Però che molto tempo elli andarono per la via dello errore, giudicando essere iddii quelle imagini le quali colle mani feciono indarno, vivendo a modo di stolti e di fanciulli.
25 Therefore unto them, as to children without the use of reason, thou didst send a judgment to mock them.	25 Per questo dèsti loro giudicio in loro ischernimento, sì come ad insensati fanciulli.
26 But they that would not be reformed by that correction, wherein he dallied with them, shall feel a judgment worthy of God.	26 Ma coloro che non sono corretti per li beffamenti e per le riprensioni, hanno poi provato (e sentito) il degno giudicio di Dio.
27 For, look, for what things they grudged, when they were punished, that is, for them whom they thought to be gods; [now] being punished in them, when they saw it, they acknowledged him to be the true God, whom before they denied to know: and therefore came extreme damnation upon them.	27 Però che in quelle cose elli pativano (molestamente sosteneano, nelle quali sosteneano) s' indignavano, per quelle nelle quali loro pensavano essere iddii, quando elli erano sterminati, vedendo colui il quale prima negavano, riconobbero lui esser vero Iddio; per la quale cosa la fine della condannagione loro si venne sopra loro.
