KING JAMES BIBLEDOUAI-RHEIMS
Then Tobit wrote a prayer of rejoicing, and said, Blessed be God that liveth for ever, and blessed be his kingdom.1 And Tobias the elder opening his mouth, blessed the Lord, and said: Thou art great, O Lord, for ever, and thy kingdom is unto all ages:
For he doth scourge, and hath mercy: he leadeth down to hell, and bringeth up again: neither is there any that can avoid his hand.2 For thou scourgest, and thou savest: thou leadest down to hell, and bringest up again: and there is none that can escape thy hand.
Confess him before the Gentiles, ye children of Israel: for he hath scattered us among them.3 Give glory to the Lord, ye children of Israel, and praise him in the sight of the Gentiles:
There declare his greatness, and extol him before all the living: for he is our Lord, and he is the God our Father for ever.4 Because he hath therefore scattered you among the Gentiles, who know not him, that you may declare his wonderful works, and make them know that there is no other almighty God besides him.
And he will scourge us for our iniquities, and will have mercy again, and will gather us out of all nations, among whom he hath scattered us.5 He hath chastised us for our iniquities: and he will save us for his own mercy.
If ye turn to him with your whole heart, and with your whole mind, and deal uprightly before him, then will he turn unto you, and will not hide his face from you. Therefore see what he will do with you, and confess him with your whole mouth, and praise the Lord of might, and extol the everlasting King. In the land of my captivity do I praise him, and declare his might and majesty to a sinful nation. O ye sinners, turn and do justice before him: who can tell if he will accept you, and have mercy on you?6 See then what he hath done with us, and with fear and trembling give ye glory to him: and extol the eternal King of worlds in your works.
I will extol my God, and my soul shall praise the King of heaven, and shall rejoice in his greatness.7 As for me, I will praise him in the land of my captivity: because he hath shewn his majesty toward a sinful nation.
Let all men speak, and let all praise him for his righteousness.8 Be converted therefore, ye sinners, and do justice before God, believing that he will shew his mercy to you.
O Jerusalem, the holy city, he will scourge thee for thy children's works, and will have mercy again on the sons of the righteous.9 And I and my soul will rejoice in him.
Give praise to the Lord, for he is good: and praise the everlasting King, that his tabernacle may be builded in thee again with joy, and let him make joyful there in thee those that are captives, and love in thee for ever those that are miserable.10 Bless ye the Lord, all his elect, keep days of joy, and give glory to him.
Many nations shall come from far to the name of the Lord God with gifts in their hands, even gifts to the King of heaven; all generations shall praise thee with great joy.11 Jerusalem, city of God, the Lord hath chastised thee for the works of thy hands.
Cursed are all they which hate thee, and blessed shall all be which love thee for ever.12 Give glory to the Lord for thy good things, and bless the God eternal, that he may rebuild his tabernacle in thee, and may call back all the captives to thee, and thou mayst rejoice for ever and ever.
Rejoice and be glad for the children of the just: for they shall be gathered together, and shall bless the Lord of the just.13 Thou shalt shine with a glorious light: and all the ends of the earth shall worship thee.
O blessed are they which love thee, for they shall rejoice in thy peace: blessed are they which have been sorrowful for all thy scourges; for they shall rejoice for thee, when they have seen all thy glory, and shall be glad for ever.14 Nations from afar shall come to thee: and shall bring gifts, and shall adore the Lord in thee, and shall esteem thy land as holy.
Let my soul bless God the great King.15 For they shall call upon the great name in thee.
For Jerusalem shall be built up with sapphires and emeralds, and precious stone: thy walls and towers and battlements with pure gold.16 They shall be cursed that shall despise thee: and they shall be condemned that shall blaspheme thee: and blessed shall they be that shall build thee up.
And the streets of Jerusalem shall be paved with beryl and carbuncle and stones of Ophir.17 But thou shalt rejoice in thy children, because they shall all be blessed, and shall be gathered together to the Lord.
Blessed are all they that love thee, and that rejoice in thy peace.
My soul, bless thou the Lord, because the Lord our God hath delivered Jerusalem his city from all her troubles.
Happy shall I be if there shall remain of my seed, to see the glory of Jerusalem.
The gates of Jerusalem shall be built of sapphire, and of emerald, and all the walls thereof round about of precious stones.
All its streets shall be paved with white and clean stones: and Alleluia shall be sung in its streets.
Blessed be the Lord, who hath exalted it, and may he reign over it for ever and ever, Amen.
