Première épître aux Thessaloniciens 4

JERUSALEM	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Enfin, frères, nous vous le demandons et vous y engageons dans le Seigneur Jésus: vousavez reçu notre enseignement sur la manière de vivre qui plaît à Dieu, et déjà c'est ainsi que vous vivez; faites-ydes progrès encore.	1 For the rest therefore, brethren, we pray and beseech you in the Lord Jesus, that as you have received from us, how you ought to walk, and to please God, so also you would walk, that you may abound the more.
2 Vous savez bien quelles prescriptions nous vous avons données de par le Seigneur Jésus.	2 For you know what precepts I have given to you by the Lord Jesus.
3 Et voici quelle est la volonté de Dieu: c'est votre sanctification; c'est que vous vousabsteniez d'impudicité,	3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that you should abstain from fornication;
4 que chacun de vous sache user du corps qui lui appartient avec sainteté et respect,	4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour:
5 sans se laisser emporter par la passion comme font les païens qui ne connaissent pas Dieu;	5 Not in the passion of lust, like the Gentiles that know not God:
6 que personne en cette matière ne supplante ou ne dupe son frère. Le Seigneur tirevengeance de tout cela, nous vous l'avons déjà dit et attesté.	6 And that no man overreach, nor circumvent his brother in business: because the Lord is the avenger of all these things, as we have told you before, and have testified.
7 Car Dieu ne nous a pas appelés à l'impureté mais à la sanctification.	7 For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto sanctification.
8 Dès lors, qui rejette cela, ce n'est pas un homme qu'il rejette, c'est Dieu, lui qui vous a faitle don de son Esprit Saint.	8 Therefore, he that despiseth these things, despiseth not man, but God, who also hath given his holy Spirit in us.
9 Sur l'amour fraternel, vous n'avez pas besoin qu'on vous écrive, car vous avezpersonnellement appris de Dieu à vous aimer les uns les autres,	9 But as touching the charity of brotherhood, we have no need to write to you: for yourselves have learned of God to love one another.
10 et vous le faites bien envers tous les frères de la Macédoine entière. Mais nous vousengageons, frères, à faire encore des progrès	10 For indeed you do it towards all the brethren in all Macedonia. But we entreat you, brethren, that you abound more:
11 en mettant votre honneur à vivre calmes, à vous occuper chacun de vos affaires, àtravailler de vos mains, comme nous vous l'avons ordonné.	11 And that you use your endeavour to be quiet, and that you do your own business, and work with your own hands, as we commanded you: and that you walk honestly towards them that are without; and that you want nothing of any man's.
12 Ainsi vous mènerez une vie honorable au regard de ceux du dehors et vous n'aurezbesoin de personne.	12 And we will not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning them that are asleep, that you be not sorrowful, even as others who have no hope.
13 Nous ne voulons pas, frères, que vous soyez ignorants au sujet des morts; il ne faut pasque vous vous désoliez comme les autres, qui n'ont pas d'espérance.	13 For if we believe that Jesus died, and rose again; even so them who have slept through Jesus, will God bring with him.
14 Puisque nous croyons que Jésus est mort et qu'il est ressuscité, de même, ceux qui sesont endormis en Jésus, Dieu les emmènera avec lui.	14 For this we say unto you in the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who remain unto the coming of the Lord, shall not prevent them who have slept.
15 Voici en effet ce que nous avons à vous dire, sur la parole du Seigneur. Nous, lesvivants, nous qui serons encore là pour l'Avènement du Seigneur, nous ne devancerons pas ceux qui serontendormis.	15 For the Lord himself shall come down from heaven with commandment, and with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God: and the dead who are in Christ, shall rise first.
16 Car lui-même, le Seigneur, au signal donné par la voix de l'archange et la trompette deDieu, descendra du ciel, et les morts qui sont dans le Christ ressusciteront en premier lieu;	16 Then we who are alive, who are left, shall be taken up together with them in the clouds to meet Christ, into the air, and so shall we be always with the Lord.
17 après quoi nous, les vivants, nous qui serons encore là, nous serons réunis à eux etemportés sur des nuées pour rencontrer le Seigneur dans les airs. Ainsi nous serons avec le Seigneur toujours.	17 Wherefore, comfort ye one another with these words.
18 Réconfortez-vous donc les uns les autres de ces pensées.
