JERUSALEM	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Parole qu'a prononcée Yahvé contre Babylone, contre le pays des Chaldéens, par le ministère duprophète Jérémie.	1 The word which the LORD spoke against Babylon, against the land of the Chaldeans, through the prophet Jeremiah:
2 Annoncez-le parmi les nations, publiez-le, hissez un signal et publiez-le, ne cachez rien,proclamez: Babylone est prise, Bel honteux, Mérodak écroulé. (Ses idoles sont honteuses, ses Saletés écroulées.)	2 Announce and publish it among the nations; publish it, hide it not, but say: Babylon is taken, Bel confounded, Merodach shattered; her images are put to shame, her idols shattered.
3 Car du Nord monte contre elle une nation qui fera de son pays une désolation; nul n'y habiteraplus, hommes et bêtes ont fui et disparu.	3 A people from the north advances against her to turn her land into a desert, So that no one shall live there, because man and beast have fled away.
4 En ces jours et en ce temps -- oracle de Yahvé -- les enfants d'Israël reviendront (eux et les enfantsde Juda ensemble), ils feront route en pleurant et chercheront Yahvé leur Dieu.	4 In those days, at that time, says the LORD, the men of Israel and of Judah shall come, Weeping as they come, to seek the LORD, their God;
5 Ils réclameront Sion, vers elle, ils tourneront leur face: "Venez! Attachons-nous à Yahvé par unealliance éternelle que l'on n'oublie pas!"	5 to their goal in Zion they shall ask the way. "Come, let us join ourselves to the LORD with covenant everlasting, never to be forgotten."
6 Les gens de mon peuple étaient des brebis perdues. Leurs bergers les égaraient, les montagnes lesdévoyaient; de montagne en colline, ils allaient, oubliant leur bercail.	6 Lost sheep were my people, their shepherds misled them, straggling on the mountains; From mountain to hill they wandered, losing the way to their fold.
7 Tous ceux qui les trouvaient les dévoraient, leurs ennemis disaient: "Nous ne sommes pas en fautepuisqu'ils ont péché contre Yahvé, la demeure de justice, et contre l'espoir de leurs pères -- Yahvé!"	7 Whoever came upon them devoured them, and their enemies said, "We incur no guilt, Because they sinned against the LORD, the hope of their fathers, their abode of justice."
8 Fuyez du milieu de Babylone et du pays des Chaldéens, sortez! Soyez comme des boucs en têted'un troupeau.	8 Flee from Babylon, leave the land of the Chaldeans, be like the rams at the head of the flock.
9 Car voici: je vais susciter et faire monter contre Babylone une coalition de grandes nations;arrivant du pays du Nord, elles se rangeront contre elle: c'est par là qu'on doit la prendre; les flèches sont cellesd'un guerrier habile qui ne revient jamais les mains vides.	9 See, I am stirring up against Babylon a band of great nations from the north; from there they advance, and she shall be taken. Their arrows are arrows of the skilled warrior; none shall return without effect.
10 La Chaldée sera mise au pillage, tous ses pilleurs seront rassasiés, oracle de Yahvé.	10 Chaldea shall be their plunder, and all her plunderers shall be enriched, says the LORD.
11 Ah! Réjouissez-vous! Triomphez, vous, les ravageurs de mon héritage! Bondissez comme unegénisse dans l'herbe! Hennissez comme des étalons!	11 Yes, rejoice and exult, you that plunder my portion; Frisk like calves on the green, snort like stallions!
12 Votre mère est couverte de honte, celle qui vous enfanta rougit de confusion. Maintenant elle estla dernière des nations: désert, aridité et steppe.	12 Your mother shall be sorely put to shame, she that bore you shall be abashed; See, the last of the nations, a desert, dry and waste.
13 La colère de Yahvé fera qu'on n'y habite plus, elle deviendra une solitude totale. Quiconquepassera près de Babylone en restera stupéfait et sifflera devant toute ses blessures.	13 Because of the LORD'S wrath she shall be empty, and become a total desert; Everyone who passes by Babylon will be appalled and catch his breath, at all her wounds.
14 Rangez-vous contre Babylone, encerclez-la, vous tous qui bandez l'arc! Tirez sur elle, neménagez pas les flèches, car elle a péché contre Yahvé!	14 Take your posts encircling Babylon, you who bend the bow; Shoot at her, spare not your arrows,
15 Poussez contre elle le cri de guerre, de tous côtés! Elle tend la main, ses bastions croulent, sesremparts sont renversés. C'est la vengeance de Yahvé! Vengez-vous d'elle! Faites-lui ce qu'elle a fait!	15 raise the war cry against her on all sides. She surrenders, her bastions fall, her walls are torn down: Vengeance of the LORD is this! Take revenge on her, as she has done, do to her; for she sinned against the LORD.
16 Retranchez de Babylone celui qui sème et celui qui tient la faucille au temps de la moisson. Loinde l'épée dévastatrice, que chacun retourne à son peuple, que chacun fuie vers son pays!	16 Cut off from Babylon the sower and him who wields the sickle in harvest time! Before the destroying sword, each of them turns to his own people, everyone flees to his own land.
17 Israël était une brebis égarée que pourchassaient des lions. Le premier qui le dévora fut le roid'Assur et celui qui, le dernier, lui brisa les os, ce fut Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone.	17 A stray sheep was Israel that lions pursued; Formerly the king of Assyria devoured her, now Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon gnaws her bones.
18 C'est pourquoi ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d'Israël: Me voici pour visiter le roi de Babyloneet son pays, comme j'ai visité le roi d'Assur.	18 Therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as once I punished the king of Assyria;
19 Et je vais ramener Israël à son pacage pour qu'il paisse au Carmel et en Bashân; sur la montagned'Ephraïm et en Galaad, il sera rassasié.	19 But I will bring back Israel to her fold, to feed on Carmel and Bashan, And on Mount Ephraim and Gilead, till she has her fill.
20 En ces jours et en ce temps -- oracle de Yahvé -- on cherchera l'iniquité d'Israël: elle ne sera plus;les péchés de Juda: on ne les trouvera plus; car je pardonnerai au reste que je laisse.	20 In those days, at that time, says the LORD: They shall seek Israel's guilt, but it shall be no more, and Judah's sins, but these shall no longer be found; for I will forgive the remnant I preserve.
21 "Monte au pays de Meratayim, monte contre lui et contre les habitants de Peqod: massacre-les,extermine-les jusqu'au dernier -- oracle de Yahvé. Exécute tous mes ordres!"	21 Attack the land of Merathaim, and those who live in Pekod; Slaughter and doom them, says the LORD, do all I have commanded you.
22 Fracas de bataille dans le pays! Désastre immense!	22 Battle alarm in the land, dire destruction!
23 Comment a-t-il été brisé et mis en pièces, le marteau du monde entier? Comment est-elle devenueun objet d'épouvante, Babylone parmi les nations?	23 How has the hammer of the whole earth been broken and shattered! What an object of horror Babylon has become among the nations.
24 Je t'ai tendu un piège et tu as été prise, Babylone, sans t'en apercevoir. Tu as été trouvée etmaîtrisée, car tu t'en prenais à Yahvé!	24 You ensnared yourself, and were caught, O Babylon, before you knew it! You were discovered and seized, because you challenged the LORD.
25 Yahvé a ouvert son arsenal et sorti les armes de sa colère. C'est qu'il y avait du travail pour leSeigneur Yahvé Sabaot au pays des Chaldéens! --	25 The LORD opens his armory and brings forth the weapons of his wrath; For the Lord GOD of hosts has work to do in the land of the Chaldeans.
26 "Venez-y de partout, ouvrez ses greniers, entassez-la comme gerbes, exterminez-la, que rien n'enreste!	26 Come upon her from every side, open her granaries, Pile up her goods in heaps and doom it, leave not a remnant.
27 Massacrez tous ses taureaux, qu'ils descendent à l'abattoir! Malheur à eux, il est arrivé, leur Jour,le temps de leur châtiment."	27 Slay all her oxen, let them go down to the slaughter; Woe to them! their day has come, the time of their punishment.
28 Ecoutez! Fuyards et rescapés du pays de Babylone viennent annoncer dans Sion la vengeance deYahvé notre Dieu, la vengeance de son Temple!	28 Listen! the fugitives, the escaped from the land of Babylon: They announce in Zion the vengeance of the LORD, our God.
29 Convoquez les archers contre Babylone, tous ceux qui bandent l'arc! Campez contre elle toutautour, qu'on ne lui laisse pas d'issue. Payez-la selon ses oeuvres, tout ce qu'elle a fait, faites-le lui. Car elle futinsolente contre Yahvé, contre le Saint d'Israël.	29 Call up against Babylon archers, all who bend the bow; Encamp around her, let no one escape. Repay her for her deeds; as she has done, do to her, For she insulted the LORD, the Holy One of Israel.
30 Aussi ses jeunes gens tomberont sur ses places et tous ses hommes de guerre périront, en ce jour-là, oracle de Yahvé!	30 Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, all her warriors shall perish on that day, says the LORD.
31 C'est contre toi que j'en ai, "Insolence" -- oracle du Seigneur Yahvé Sabaot -- ton Jour est arrivé,le temps où je te châtie.	31 I am against you, man of insolence, says the Lord GOD of hosts; For your day has come, the time for me to punish you.
32 "Insolence" va être culbutée, elle tombera, nul ne la relèvera; je mettrai le feu à ses villes, ildévorera tous ses alentours.	32 Insolence stumbles and falls; there is no one to raise him up. I will kindle in his cities a fire that shall devour everything around him.
33 Ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot: Les enfants d'Israël sont opprimés (et les enfants de Juda avec eux),tous ceux qui les ont faits captifs les tiennent, ils refusent de les lâcher.	33 Thus says the LORD of hosts: Oppressed are the men of Israel, and with them the men of Judah; All their captors hold them fast and refuse to let them go.
34 Mais leur Rédempteur est puissant, Yahvé Sabaot est son nom. Il va prendre en main leur causeafin de donner du repos au pays, mais de faire trembler les habitants de Babylone.	34 Strong is their avenger, whose name is LORD of hosts; He will defend their cause with success, and give rest to the earth, but unrest to those who live in Babylon.
35 Epée contre les Chaldéens -- oracle de Yahvé -- contre les habitants de Babylone, contre sesprinces et ses sages!	35 A sword upon the Chaldeans, says the LORD, upon Babylon's people, her princes and wise men!
36 Epée contre ses devins: qu'ils déraisonnent! Epée contre ses héros: qu'ils soient pris de panique!	36 A sword upon the soothsayers, that they may become fools! A sword upon her warriors, that they may tremble;
37 Epée contre ses chevaux et ses chars, et contre le ramassis qu'elle recèle: qu'ils soient comme desfemmes! Epée contre ses trésors: qu'on les pille!	37 A sword upon her motley throng, that they may become women! A sword upon her treasures, that they may be plundered;
38 Sécheresse contre ses eaux: qu'elles tarissent! Car c'est un pays d'idoles, ils se passionnent pourleurs Epouvantails!	38 A sword upon her waters, that they may dry up! For it is a land of idols, and they shall be made frantic by fearful things.
39 Aussi des lynx y gîteront avec des chacals, des autruches y auront leur demeure. Elle ne sera plushabitée, à jamais, d'âge en âge elle ne sera plus peuplée.	39 Hence, wildcats and desert beasts shall dwell there, and ostriches shall occupy it; Never again shall it be peopled, or lived in, from age to age.
40 Comme lorsque Dieu renversa Sodome, Gomorrhe et les villes voisines -- oracle de Yahvé --personne n'y habitera plus, aucun humain n'y séjournera plus.	40 As when God overturned Sodom and Gomorrah, with their neighbors, says the LORD, Not a man shall dwell there, no human being shall tarry there.
41 Voici qu'un peuple arrive du Nord, une grande nation et des rois nombreux se lèvent des confinsde la terre.	41 See! a people comes from the north, a great nation, and mighty kings roused from the ends of the earth.
42 Ils tiennent fermement l'arc et le javelot, ils sont barbares et impitoyables; leur bruit est comme lemugissement de la mer; ils montent des chevaux, ils sont prêts à combattre comme un seul homme contre toi,fille de Babylone.	42 Bow and javelin they wield, cruel and pitiless are they; They sound like the roaring sea, as they ride forth on steeds, Each in his place for battle against you, daughter Babylon.
43 Le roi de Babylone a appris la nouvelle, ses mains ont défailli, l'angoisse l'a pris, une douleurcomme pour celle qui enfante.	43 The king of Babylon hears news of them, and helpless fall his hands; Anguish seizes him, throes like a mother's in childbirth.
44 Voici que, tel un lion, il monte des halliers du Jourdain vers le pâturage toujours vert. En un clind'oeil, je les ferai déguerpir de là, pour y établir celui que je choisirai. Qui en effet est mon égal? Qui pourraitm'assigner en justice? Quel est donc le pasteur qui tiendrait devant moi?	44 As when a lion comes up from the Jordan's thicket to the permanent feeding grounds, So I, in one instant, will drive them off, and whom I choose I will establish there; For who is like me? who calls me to account? what shepherd can stand against me?
45 Aussi apprenez le dessein que Yahvé a formé contre Babylone et le plan qu'il a résolu contre lepays des Chaldéens: certainement on les traînera comme les plus petits du troupeau! Certainement on vasaccager leur prairie devant eux!	45 Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD which he has taken against Babylon; Hear the plans he has made against the land of the Chaldeans: They shall be dragged away, even the smallest sheep; their own pasture shall be aghast because of them.
46 Au bruit de la prise de Babylone, la terre tremble, un cri se fait entendre parmi les nations.	46 At the cry "Babylon is captured!" the earth quakes; the outcry is heard among the nations.
