GREEK BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Την δε πρωτην ημεραν της εβδομαδος, ενω ητο ορθρος βαθυς, ηλθον εις το μνημα φερουσαι τα οποια ητοιμασαν αρωματα, και αλλαι τινες μετ' αυτων.1 But at daybreak on the first day of the week they took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.
Ευρον δε τον λιθον αποκεκυλισμενον απο του μνημειου,2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb;
και εισελθουσαι δεν ευρον το σωμα του Κυριου Ιησου.3 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
Και ενω ησαν εν απορια περι τουτου, ιδου, δυο ανδρες εσταθησαν εμπροσθεν αυτων με ιματια αστραπτοντα.4 While they were puzzling over this, behold, two men in dazzling garments appeared to them.
Τι ζητειτε τον ζωντα μετα των νεκρων;5 They were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground. They said to them, "Why do you seek the living one among the dead?
ενθυμηθητε πως ελαλησε προς εσας, ενω ητο ετι εν τη Γαλιλαια,6 He is not here, but he has been raised. Remember what he said to you while he was still in Galilee,
λεγων οτι πρεπει ο Υιος του ανθρωπου να παραδοθη εις χειρας ανθρωπων αμαρτωλων και να σταυρωθη και την τριτην ημεραν να αναστηθη.7 that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners and be crucified, and rise on the third day."
Και ενεθυμηθησαν τους λογους αυτου.8 And they remembered his words.
Και αφου υπεστρεψαν απο του μνημειου, απηγγειλαν ταυτα παντα προς τους ενδεκα και παντας τους λοιπους.9 Then they returned from the tomb and announced all these things to the eleven and to all the others.
Ησαν δε η Μαγδαληνη Μαρια και Ιωαννα και Μαρια η μητηρ του Ιακωβου και αι λοιπαι μετ' αυτων, αιτινες ελεγον ταυτα προς τους αποστολους.10 The women were Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James; the others who accompanied them also told this to the apostles,
Και οι λογοι αυτων εφανησαν ενωπιον αυτων ως φλυαρια, και δεν επιστευον εις αυτας.11 but their story seemed like nonsense and they did not believe them.
Ο δε Πετρος σηκωθεις εδραμεν εις το μνημειον, και παρακυψας βλεπει τα σαβανα κειμενα μονα, και ανεχωρησε, θαυμαζων καθ' εαυτον το γεγονος.12 But Peter got up and ran to the tomb, bent down, and saw the burial cloths alone; then he went home amazed at what had happened.
Και ιδου, δυο εξ αυτων επορευοντο εν αυτη τη ημερα εις κωμην ονομαζομενην Εμμαους, απεχουσαν εξηκοντα σταδια απο Ιερουσαλημ.13 Now that very day two of them were going to a village seven miles from Jerusalem called Emmaus,
Και αυτοι ωμιλουν προς αλληλους περι παντων των συμβεβηκοτων τουτων.14 and they were conversing about all the things that had occurred.
Και ενω ωμιλουν και συνδιελεγοντο, πλησιασας και αυτος ο Ιησους επορευετο μετ' αυτων?15 And it happened that while they were conversing and debating, Jesus himself drew near and walked with them,
αλλ' οι οφθαλμοι αυτων εκρατουντο δια να μη γνωρισωσιν αυτον.16 but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him.
Τινες ειναι οι λογοι ουτοι, τους οποιους συνομιλειτε προς αλληλους περιπατουντες, και εισθε σκυθρωποι;17 He asked them, "What are you discussing as you walk along?" They stopped, looking downcast.
Συ μονος παροικεις εν Ιερουσαλημ και δεν εμαθες τα γενομενα εν αυτη εν ταις ημεραις ταυταις;18 One of them, named Cleopas, said to him in reply, "Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know of the things that have taken place there in these days?"
Τα περι Ιησου του Ναζωραιου, οστις εσταθη ανηρ προφητης δυνατος εν εργω και λογω ενωπιον του Θεου και παντος του λαου,19 And he replied to them, "What sort of things?" They said to him, "The things that happened to Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people,
και πως παρεδωκαν αυτον οι αρχιερεις και οι αρχοντες ημων εις καταδικην θανατου και εσταυρωσαν αυτον.20 how our chief priests and rulers both handed him over to a sentence of death and crucified him.
αλλα και προς τουτοις πασι τριτη ημερα ειναι σημερον αυτη, αφου εγειναν ταυτα.21 But we were hoping that he would be the one to redeem Israel; and besides all this, it is now the third day since this took place.
Αλλα και γυναικες τινες εξ ημων εξεπληξαν ημας, αιτινες υπηγον την αυγην εις το μνημειον,22 Some women from our group, however, have astounded us: they were at the tomb early in the morning
και μη ευρουσαι το σωμα αυτου, ηλθον λεγουσαι οτι ειδον και οπτασιαν αγγελων, οιτινες λεγουσιν οτι αυτος ζη.23 and did not find his body; they came back and reported that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who announced that he was alive.
Και τινες των υμετερων υπηγον εις το μνημειον και ευρον ουτω, καθως και αι γυναικες ειπον, αυτον ομως δεν ειδον.24 Then some of those with us went to the tomb and found things just as the women had described, but him they did not see."
Ω ανοητοι και βραδεις την καρδιαν εις το να πιστευητε εις παντα οσα ελαλησαν οι προφηται?25 And he said to them, "Oh, how foolish you are! How slow of heart to believe all that the prophets spoke!
δεν επρεπε να παθη ταυτα ο Χριστος και να εισελθη εις την δοξαν αυτου;26 Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and enter into his glory?"
Και αρχισας απο Μωυσεως και απο παντων των προφητων, διηρμηνευεν εις αυτους τα περι εαυτου γεγραμμενα εν πασαις ταις γραφαις.27 Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them what referred to him in all the scriptures.
Και επλησιασαν εις την κωμην οπου επορευοντο, και αυτος προσεποιειτο οτι υπαγει μακροτερα?28 As they approached the village to which they were going, he gave the impression that he was going on farther.
Και εισηλθε δια να μεινη μετ' αυτων.29 But they urged him, "Stay with us, for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over." So he went in to stay with them.
Και αφου εκαθησε μετ' αυτων εις την τραπεζαν, λαβων τον αρτον ευλογησε και κοψας εδιδεν εις αυτους.30 And it happened that, while he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them.
Και αυτος εγεινεν αφαντος απ' αυτων.31 With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight.
Δεν εκαιετο εν υμιν η καρδια ημων, οτε ελαλει προς ημας καθ' οδον και μας εξηγει τας γραφας;32 Then they said to each other, "Were not our hearts burning (within us) while he spoke to us on the way and opened the scriptures to us?"
Και σηκωθεντες τη αυτη ωρα υπεστρεψαν εις Ιερουσαλημ, και ευρον συνηθροισμενους τους ενδεκα και τους μετ' αυτων,33 So they set out at once and returned to Jerusalem where they found gathered together the eleven and those with them
οιτινες ελεγον οτι οντως ανεστη ο Κυριος και εφανη εις τον Σιμωνα.34 who were saying, "The Lord has truly been raised and has appeared to Simon!"
Και αυτοι διηγουντο τα εν τη οδω και πως εγνωρισθη εις αυτους, ενω εκοπτε τον αρτον.35 Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way and how he was made known to them in the breaking of the bread.
Ειρηνη υμιν.36 While they were still speaking about this, he stood in their midst and said to them, "Peace be with you."
Εκεινοι δε εκπλαγεντες και εμφοβοι γενομενοι ενομιζον οτι εβλεπον πνευμα.37 But they were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a ghost.
Δια τι εισθε τεταραγμενοι; και δια τι αναβαινουσιν εις τας καρδιας σας διαλογισμοι;38 Then he said to them, "Why are you troubled? And why do questions arise in your hearts?
ψηλαφησατε με και ιδετε, διοτι πνευμα σαρκα και οστεα δεν εχει, καθως εμε θεωρειτε εχοντα.39 Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have."
Και τουτο ειπων, εδειξεν εις αυτους τας χειρας και τους ποδας.40 And as he said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.
Εχετε τι φαγωσιμον ενταυθα;41 While they were still incredulous for joy and were amazed, he asked them, "Have you anything here to eat?"
Οι δε εδωκαν εις αυτον μερος οπτου ιχθυος και απο κηρηθραν μελιτος.42 They gave him a piece of baked fish;
Και λαβων ενωπιον αυτων εφαγεν.43 he took it and ate it in front of them.
Ουτοι ειναι οι λογοι, τους οποιους ελαλησα προς υμας οτε ημην ετι μεθ' υμων, οτι πρεπει να πληρωθωσι παντα τα γεγραμμενα εν τω νομω του Μωυσεως και προφηταις και ψαλμοις περι εμου.44 He said to them, "These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and in the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled."
Τοτε διηνοιξεν αυτων τον νουν, δια να καταλαβωσι τας γραφας?45 Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures.
και ειπε προς αυτους οτι ουτως ειναι γεγραμμενον και ουτως επρεπε να παθη ο Χριστος και να αναστηθη εκ νεκρων τη τριτη ημερα,46 And he said to them, "Thus it is written that the Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day
και να κηρυχθη εν τω ονοματι αυτου μετανοια και αφεσις αμαρτιων εις παντα τα εθνη, γινομενης αρχης απο Ιερουσαλημ.47 and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
Σεις δε εισθε μαρτυρες τουτων.48 You are witnesses of these things.
σεις δε καθησατε εν τη πολει Ιερουσαλημ εωσου ενδυθητε δυναμιν εξ υψους.49 And (behold) I am sending the promise of my Father upon you; but stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high."
Και εφερεν αυτους εξω εως εις Βηθανιαν, και υψωσας τας χειρας αυτου ευλογησεν αυτους.50 Then he led them (out) as far as Bethany, raised his hands, and blessed them.
Και ενω ευλογει αυτους, απεχωρισθη απ' αυτων και ανεφερετο εις τον ουρανον.51 As he blessed them he parted from them and was taken up to heaven.
Και αυτοι προσκυνησαντες αυτον, υπεστρεψαν εις Ιερουσαλημ μετα χαρας μεγαλης,52 They did him homage and then returned to Jerusalem with great joy,
Αμην.53 and they were continually in the temple praising God.
