Deuteronomy 25

1 If there be a controversy between men, and they call upon the judges: they shall give the prize of justice to him whom they perceive to be just: and him whom they find to be wicked, they shall condemn of wickedness.	1 Wenn zwei Männer eine Auseinandersetzung haben, vor Gericht gehen und man zwischen ihnen die Entscheidung fällt, indem man dem Recht gibt, der im Recht ist, und den schuldig spricht, der schuldig ist,
2 And if they see that the offender be worthy of stripes: they shall lay him down, and shall cause him to be beaten before them. According to the measure of the sin shall the measure also of the stripes be:	2 dann soll der Richter, falls der Schuldige zu einer Prügelstrafe verurteilt wurde, anordnen, dass er sich hinlegt und in seiner Gegenwart eine bestimmte Anzahl von Schlägen erhält, wie es seiner Schuld entspricht.
3 Yet so, that they exceed not the number of forty: lest thy brother depart shamefully torn before thy eyes.	3 Vierzig Schläge darf er ihm geben lassen, mehr nicht. Sonst könnte dein Bruder, wenn man ihm darüber hinaus noch viele Schläge gibt, in deinen Augen entehrt werden.
4 Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out thy corn on the floor.	4 Du sollst dem Ochsen zum Dreschen keinen Maulkorb anlegen.
5 When brethren dwell together, and one of them dieth without children, the wife of the deceased shall not marry to another: but his brother shall take her, and raise up seed for his brother:	5 Wenn zwei Brüder zusammen wohnen und der eine von ihnen stirbt und keinen Sohn hat, soll die Frau des Verstorbenen nicht die Frau eines fremden Mannes außerhalb der Familie werden. Ihr Schwager soll sich ihrer annehmen, sie heiraten und die Schwagerehe mit ihr vollziehen.
6 And the first son he shall have of her he shall call by his name, that his name be not abolished out of Israel.	6 Der erste Sohn, den sie gebiert, soll den Namen des verstorbenen Bruders weiterführen. So soll dessen Name in Israel nicht erlöschen.
7 But if he will not take his brother's wife, who by law belongeth to him, the woman shall go to the gate of the city, and call upon the ancients, and say: My husband's brother refuseth to raise up his brother's name in Israel: and will not take me to wife.	7 Wenn der Mann aber seine Schwägerin nicht heiraten will und seine Schwägerin zu den Ältesten ans Tor hinaufgeht und sagt: Mein Schwager will dem Namen seines Bruders in Israel keinen Bestand sichern und hat es deshalb abgelehnt, mit mir die Schwagerehe einzugehen!,
8 And they shall cause him to be sent for forthwith, and shall ask him. If he answer: I will not take her to wife:	8 wenn die Ältesten seiner Stadt ihn dann vorladen und zur Rede stellen, er aber bei seiner Haltung bleibt und erklärt: Ich will sie nicht heiraten!,
9 The woman shall come to him before the ancients, and shall take off his shoe from his foot, and spit in his face, and say: So shall it be done to the man that will not build up his brother's house:	9 dann soll seine Schwägerin vor den Augen der Ältesten zu ihm hintreten, ihm den Schuh vom Fuß ziehen, ihm ins Gesicht spucken und ausrufen: So behandelt man einen, der seinem Bruder das Haus nicht baut.
10 And his name shall be called in Israel, the house of the unshod.	10 Ihm soll man in Israel den Namen geben: Barfüßerhaus.
11 If two men have words together, and one begin to fight against the other, and the other's wife willing to deliver her husband out of the hand of the stronger, shall put forth her hand, and take him by the secrets,	11 Wenn zwei Männer, ein Mann und sein Bruder, miteinander raufen und die Frau des einen hinzukommt, um ihren Mann aus der Gewalt des andern, der auf ihn einschlägt, zu befreien, und wenn sie die Hand ausstreckt und dessen Schamteile ergreift,
12 Thou shalt cut off her hand, neither shalt thou be moved with any pity in her regard.	12 dann sollst du ihr die Hand abhacken. Du sollst in dir kein Mitleid aufsteigen lassen.
13 Thou shalt not have divers weights in thy bag, a greater and a less:	13 Du sollst in deinem Beutel nicht zwei verschiedene Gewichte haben, ein größeres und ein kleineres.
14 Neither shall there be in thy house a greater bushel and a less.	14 Du sollst in deinem Haus nicht zwei verschiedene Efa haben, ein größeres und ein kleineres.
15 Thou shalt have a just and a true weight, and thy bushel shall be equal and true: that thou mayest live a long time upon the land which the Lord thy God shall give thee.	15 Volle und richtige Gewichte sollst du haben, volle und richtige Hohlmaße sollst du haben, damit du lange in dem Land lebst, das der Herr, dein Gott, dir gibt.
16 For the Lord thy God abhorreth him that doth these things, and he hateth all injustice.	16 Denn alle, die so etwas tun, alle Betrüger, sind dem Herrn ein Gräuel.
17 Remember what Amalec did to thee in the way when thou camest out of Egypt:	17 Denk daran, was Amalek dir unterwegs angetan hat, als ihr aus Ägypten zogt:
18 How he met thee: and slew the hindmost of the army, who sat down, being weary, when thou wast spent with hunger and labour, and he feared not God.	18 wie er unterwegs auf dich stieß und, als du müde und matt warst, ohne jede Gottesfurcht alle erschöpften Nachzügler von hinten niedermachte.
19 Therefore when the Lord thy God shall give thee rest, and shall have subdued all the nations round about in the land which he hath promised thee: thou shalt blot out his name from under heaven. See thou forget it not.	19 Wenn der Herr, dein Gott, dir von allen deinen Feinden ringsum Ruhe verschafft hat in dem Land, das der Herr, dein Gott, dir als Erbbesitz gibt, damit du es in Besitz nimmst, dann lösche die Erinnerung an Amalek unter dem Himmel aus! Du sollst nicht vergessen.
