Sirach 40

DOUAI-RHEIMS	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Great labour is created for all men, and a heavy yoke is upon the children of Adam, from the day of their coming out of their mother's womb, until the day of their burial into the mother of all.	1 Un grande affanno è stato dato ad ogni uomo, un giogo pesante è sopra i figli di Adamo, da quando escono dal seno della madre fino a quando fan ritorno alla madre di tutti.
2 Their thoughts, and fears of the heart, their imagination of things to come, and the day of their end:	2 I loro pensieri e la trepidazione del cuore esprimono l'attesa del giorno della morte.
3 From him that sitteth on a glorious throne, unto him that is humbled in earth and ashes:	3 Da chi siede sopra un trono di gloria fino a chi sta nella terra e nella cenere,
4 From him that weareth purple, and beareth the crown, even to him that is covered with rough linen: wrath, envy, trouble, unquietness, and the fear of death, continual anger, and strife,	4 da chi indossa porpora e corona fino a chi veste di lino grezzo: rabbia, invidia, ansietà e agitazione, paura della morte, collera e contese.
5 And in the time of rest upon his bed, the sleep of the night changeth his knowledge.	5 Anche quando riposa nel letto, il sonno della notte turba i suoi pensieri.
6 A little and as nothing is his rest, and afterward in sleep, as in the day of keeping watch.	6 Riposa poco ed è come niente, anche nel sonno s'affatica come di giorno, perché è sconvolto dalla visione del suo cuore, come chi fugge di fronte alla guerra.
7 He is troubled in the vision of his heart, as if he had escaped in the day of battle. In the time of his safety he rose up, and wondereth that there is no fear:	7 Ma quando poi è in salvo deve svegliarsi, costatando che non c'era motivo di temere.
8 Such things happen to all flesh, from man even to beast, and upon sinners are sevenfold mere.	8 Così è per ogni carne, dall'uomo alla bestia, ma per i peccatori è sette volte di più:
9 Moreover, death, and bloodshed, strife, and sword, oppressions, famine, and affliction, and scourges:	9 morte, sangue, contesa e spada, disastri, carestia, rovina e piaghe.
10 All these things are created for the wicked, and for their sakes came the flood.	10 Questi mali sono stati creati per gli empi, a causa loro è avvenuto il diluvio.
11 All things that are of the earth, shall return to the earth again, and all waters shall return to the sea.	11 Tutto quello che è dalla terra torna alla terra, e quello che è dalle acque si getta di nuovo nel mare.
12 All bribery, and injustice shall blotted out, and fidelity shall stand for ever.	12 Ogni regalo corruttore e l'ingiustizia spariranno, ma l'onestà rimarrà per sempre.
13 The riches of the unjust shall be dried up like a river, and shall pass sway a noise like a great thunder in rain.	13 Le ricchezze degli ingiusti si prosciugano come fiume, si disperdono come tuono che echeggia nella burrasca.
14 While he openeth his hands he shall rejoice: but transgressors shall pine away in the end.	14 Se dovranno aprire le mani, non ci sarà compassione, i disobbedienti sono abbandonati alla rovina.
15 The offspring of the ungodly shall not bring forth many branches, and make a noise as unclean roots upon the top of a rock.	15 I figli degli empi non avranno molti rami, sono radici impure su pietra levigata,
16 The weed growing over every water, and at the bank of the river, shall be pulled up before all grass.	16 come giunco che cresce nelle paludi e lungo i fiumi ed è divelto prima di ogni altra erba.
17 Grace is like a paradise in blessings, and mercy remaineth for ever.	17 La bontà è come un paradiso di benedizione, l'elemosina rimane per sempre.
18 The life of a labourer that is content with what he hath, shall be sweet, and in it thou shalt find a treasure.	18 Chi è indipendente e chi è impiegato hanno vita dolce, ma vale di più chi trova un tesoro.
19 Children, and the building of a city shall establish a name, but a blameless wife shall be counted above them both.	19 Figli e fondazione d'una città perpetuano il proprio nome, ma vale di più una donna irreprensibile.
20 Wine and music rejoice the heart, but the love of wisdom is above them both.	20 Il vino e la musica rallegrano il cuore, ma vale di più l'amore della sapienza.
21 The flute and the psaltery make a sweet melody, but a pleasant tongue is above them both.	21 Il flauto e l'arpa rendono piacevole il canto, ma vale di più una lingua soave.
22 Thy eye desireth favour and beauty, but more than these green sown fields.	22 L'occhio gode a vedere grazia e bellezza, ma più ancora il verde del campo seminato.
23 A friend and companion meeting together in season, but above them both is a wife with her husband.	23 E' sempre piacevole l'incontro di due amici, ma più ancora dell'uomo con la moglie.
24 Brethren are a help in the time of trouble, but mercy shall deliver more than they.	24 Fratelli e soccorritori aiutano nella tribolazione, ma più ancora è l'elemosina che libera.
25 Gold and silver make the feet stand sure: but wise counsel is above them both.	25 L'oro e l'argento sostengono i passi, ma vale di più un buon consiglio.
26 Riches and strength lift up the heart: but above these is the fear of the Lord.	26 Ricchezze e forza esaltano il cuore, ma più d'entrambi il timore del Signore. Col timore del Signore non c'è indigenza, allora non c'è da cercare aiuto.
27 There is no want in the fear of the Lord, and it needeth not to seek for help.	27 Il timore del Signore è come giardino di benedizione, ricopre più di ogni altra gloria.
28 The fear of the Lord is like a paradise of blessing, and they have covered it above all glory.	28 Figlio, non vivere una vita di mendico, è meglio morire che mendicare.
29 My son, in thy lifetime be not indigent: for it is better to die than to want.	29 Per l'uomo che guarda alla tavola altrui l'esistenza non merita il nome di vita. Si contamina pure con cibi proibiti, ma l'uomo saggio e istruito se ne guarderà.
30 The life of him that looketh toward another man's table is not to be counted a life: for he feedeth his soul with another man's meat.	30 Alla bocca dello spudorato piace mendicare, ma nel ventre ha un fuoco che gli brucia.
31 But a man, well instructed and taught, will look to himself.
32 Begging will be sweet in the mouth of the unwise, but in his belly there shall burn a fire.
